Metal Gear Solid 3 - Duel - The Fear

- This is the duel with The Fear. This is actually the most interesting boss battle in MGS3, in my opinion, and definitely the most fun battle. There are many ways to beat The Fear, using thermal vision, just shooting at him, but I choose the funnest way to beat him, which is poisoned food =D. First off, gather up some poison dart frogs, by the way, I only used the shotgun because I have horrendous aim and I'd empty out a whole clip trying to kill two frogs, and since ammo costs points, I just use the shotgun, and get some ink caps, and just toss them in all directions. The Fear uses stealth camo to hide himself as he leaps from tree to tree and attacks, and that camo requires alot of stamina to use, so The Fear will start looking for food as his stamina runs low...and that's where your poison food comes in. Once he eats the poison food, he will slowly try to make his way up the nearest tree, and if you're there quick enough, you can get a couple shots in with your Mk22 or whatever you're using, and if you follow him, he'll jump back down to vomit, which will cause his stamina to plummet, and you should be able to pop some more shots in him. If you don't beat him after he vomits, just wait for him to stumble across some more poisoned food, and repeat the process. =D
One would expect that Fear guy to be able to tell a poison tree frog when he sees it
The thing I love about this battle is the music. I have it on my phone with a lot of other boss themes.
@soulslayer55000 It's a modified version of the Smith & Wesson Model 39, it was fitted with tranqulizer ammunition, and the slide was made to lock after every shot to keep the mechanism closed and silent when fired. Not "unrealistic", just not a normal thing seen done to a weapon.
(Yes Metal Gear Wiki was used.)
@jjpangify Absolutely. The free camera angle is 100x better than the overhead view of Snake Eater. Subsistence also has 10x more bonus content. Duel mode, the Metal Gear games. And what little Snake Eater had. Subsistence is a must have.
It takes about ten seconds to defeat him if you stun him when he runs down at the beginning, and you unload on him with an automatic weapon. For some reason it drains his stamina if you shoot him with a lethal weapon while he's stunned.
wow i just beat the game and i got evey boss's camo exept for the fear i had no clue on how to lower his stamana metter all the way thanks for this im going to play though again and get it lol
@soulslayer55000 the slide locks after every shot. And its a tranq. :P
@BoomyXialijian only negative is the really high cost it currently has - and fact the online component is useless as of today.
I got a copy cheap recently from new classmate who did not like MGS at all, it is not in perfect, but working well condition and it's, even now as of 2011 a amazing game. If you do not want to pay for PS2 copy forcibly though, you can wait the HD collection, it has substance/subsistence content as well.
hahaha, I wish I knew that trick, he was a real pain to beat
very clever
i cant get him to eat it damn it!
i used the thermal goggles and xm16e1
how do you play against him like this? i have the ps2 version
how i would get that gun?
i did this with 3 pieces of rotton aligator :D
Is subsistence worth it?
clever xD
Hi! Thank you for this helpful video. By the way, I hear a lot of people keep on talking about Emetobilax System (google it), but I'm not sure if it is really good. Have you tried using program called Emetobilax System? I've heard many awesome things about it and my work buddy completely cures his emetophobia naturally with this program.
