To give a quick rundown of the story. When the ODIN strikes in the opening of the campaign occur the Cryptids in an Ark are awoken and begin killing everything, hence the nuke because they learned that the cryptids were coming out of the structure. In Nightfall, you learn a lot about the story if you pay attention to the background stuff happening. Mayday was an operation to recover Samantha Cross. Awakening takes place in an Ark underneath the Pacific Ocean, and due to the events of the extinction team, the Anciets send an "awakening" to the other Arks telling them to wake up and reclaim the Earth. Exodus takes place 2 months after the Awakening. In the time preceeding the map exodus, nearly the entirety of the human race was killed. The reason you are starting up those generators is to power up the Medusa weapon system which relies on the Codex (the thing you got in Awakening) to fry the brains of every cryptid around the launch site of the Exodus rocket which presumably has the last humans on Earth on it. The ending cutscene alludes to the continuation of the story of humans coming back and retaking earth from the Cryptids

The story is really interesting. The main girl Samantha is a genius at learning languages. She’s able to translate the cryptid language but becomes brainwashed by it, and eventually she’s able to control the cryptids. Archer devised a plan to kill Samantha then use her head/mind to trick and control the cryptids (that’s why you vent the gas into her chamber on Mayday, the goal was to find her on that ship when she caused an outbreak). She summoned the craken which saved her life. Awakening is of course one of the arks where the masters are cryogenically frozen, which I find super interesting because nobody could possibly know they were in there. I remember one of the most annoying parts of the online multiplayer for Extinction (good luck doing that now, lol) is that people would screw up the challenges instantly that you needed for the extra money. For instance, I remember vividly that the first few challenges involved a 'hit percentage' goal. Miss no more than like 50-75% of your shots. The obvious strat was to shoot 1 bullet, get a hit, then knife the rest of the creatures. We failed that challenge 3 out of 4 times in pub lobbies. We rarely got past the second part of the first mission. The first defense of the first mission was also difficult for some reason.

It doesn't make me want to play it again, but it's cool that they went the extra mile with these map designs. Most people that hate ghost and this game mode are solo players following a band wagon 😂 I remember bringing my tv and ps4 over to my friends appartement and play ghost all night
the game itself is kind of mediocre, But I have yet to see anybody complain about the genuine extinction mode without just saying "It's different that what I'm used to and I don't like it."
I just wanna say thank you to the youtubers still making content off extinction and all the online players i have had the privilege to play with, all serious&great players. I'm suprised to still see people playing I might be on&off on extinction but ik i can always come back to it.
00:23 yes, it is an amazing game mode. It has been one of my favorites to play for a while. I miss the love they put in it. Hopefully they bring it back or something similar.
This brings back a lot! Actually the story is super well thought and makes it a hundred times more pleasant to play. The "girl's" name is also Samantha and she controls the aliens againts her will (sounds familiar? lol)but it is honestly a RIDE. Also the "Blue" aliens are called Panthoms lol (they both tp while going invisible) and the little ones in mayday that plants those annoying turrets are called "Seeders" oh and you can actually get the Venom before going up into the container, you missed the first door.
Fun fact, all the exctiction maps are actually movies, confirmed by Lee Ross it's creator, they were referenced in iw zombies and also willard wyler threw characters in them just like in iw zombies
@@XOFInfantrymanIt’s not even a retcon, in IW Zombies that’s how it is. But Infinite Warfare and Ghosts aren’t connected so there is no retconning happening. It’s just how it is for IW Zombies. A reference and reuse of the Cryptids.
2 things to mention about point of contact 1. when the helicopter is shooting a hive you can join in and shoot it as well 2. when the meteors are blocking your escape you can also just wait around
I played this game mode nonstop back in the day. I'll give you a rundown of the different aliens and how strong they are.(I'll go map order for them). The ones you saw at the beginning of PoC were Scouts, they're the grunt force of the Cryptids and pretty easy to kill. The next was the Hunter. They look exactly like the Scout, but the headplate armor is a lot thicker, they're a little stronger and they're a bit bigger. The next one would be the Leper, which I can't remember if it shows in Solo. Think Hunter in Scouts body without the power or armor. He just kinda jumps around. Also he really only shows when you get the challenge to kill him in 30 seconds. He also glows a little differently than the Scout, (Feral Instincts help locate him really fast if you get the challenge). The Scorpion shoots at you and is the only one that damages the helicopter, but like at one point in the video, you should focus on prioritizing the Cryptid aliens based on current objectives. Also they kinda have a set route to go on. The acid they shoot at you/the helicopter is corrosive and lingers a little. The ones that come out of the meteorites are Seekers. They're pretty easy to kill, but getting swarmed or if they're right on top of you isn't ideal. They're like Nova 6 Crawlers from Kino. They explode upon death. The last one for PoC is the Rhino. They're the heavy ones and do a lot of damage. Armor Piercing rounds or Explosive Rounds worked best for me. Also they only really appear at certain predetermined spots to throw a little chaos into the action. In "Nightfall" the blue Cryptid is basically another evolution of a Hunter. They just go invisible, although they look like they teleport. The only other new Cryptid we see was the Breeder. The big spider boss that grabs the dude from the intro and the last one on "Nightfall". The next map was "Mayday" and we see basically the same ones from the previous two but with 2 new ones. The Seeder is a "hybrid" of both the Seeker and the Scorpion. Does the same basic stuff as those two but can climb walls and are the only Cryptid to be able to walk across the ceiling. Also can spawn a pod which will turn into a Seeder Turret. Shoot it before it sprouts. The next one was the big Kraken. Only identified Cryptid to be known to swim. The last two maps I'll put together is "Awakening" and "Exodus". You get a couple new Cryptids, the bomber is just a flying Seeker, and the Gargoyle is just a flying Scorpion. The blue Rhino is a Mammoth. Stronger, can summon Hunters to assist and can also dig underground to go to another location. Finally, we get the Ancestor. They're the top of the food chain within the Cryptid world. They telepathically communicate with the lower Cryptids. (Looks like the radioactivity from Bikini Bottom really got to Squidward?). "Exodus" is more or less the ground/air Cryptids serving the Ancestors. There was only one listed Cryptid that was cut from the game, and it was the Cricket. Bigger Hunter that makes a cricket noise when the bait lures are rubbed together. The campaign from Ghosts has a lot of ties to the Extinction story. (Sorry for a textdump, I saw an opportunity)
i have some very fun and fond memories playing extinction with my friends back in the day.. we bought all the dlcs and beat all of them. Absolutely underrated and super super fun. Definitely recommend lol.

I'm about to redownload it because watching you is bringing back memories. I was one of the few that stuck with the game and played till the very end. I loved this game so much I never understood why everyone hated on it. Multiplayer was fun especially with the maps with special care packages and the CO op was fire as well. Then extinction I remember when I couldn't even beat point of contact, but once I beat it the first time I could not fail again.
I spent a couple months playing extinction constantly not long ago cuz i love it. My cousin and I were grinding for teeth and beat all maps with relics. It has some flaws but i miss it. A new version would be cool....
I didn’t have much money as a kid. I loved playing the first map so many times, I remember the map layout pretty well. I might try getting Ghosts on PC and finding some homies to play this with
I think it was better than zombies. The replayability was amazing with the armory and farming for the teeth. Story line was great. Big black ops 1 zombie guy here too. Ild school zombies and extinction were perfect. Make them easier for all of to play again. Expensive if you have to buy them right now and no one to play with.....
There was a glitch that allowed you carry more than 3 guns. This made solo play much more fun and viable. I think I was able to solo all the maps, give or take 1
genuinely glad weve finally gotten to the point that new cods are so bad that this ol gem is finally getting the attention it should’ve gotten back in the day
Fun fact: Infinite warfare zombie "beast from beyond" and Call of duty ghost aliens, are all connected! Willard from iw zombies states that nightfall is also part of the iw zombies universe. Turns out that Call of duty extinction mode is actually a movie produced by Willard. And the game Beast from beyond is also a movie but like a remake. I RESPECT THE PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY NOTICED THE CONNECTION WITHIN GAMES!
I noticed on awakening you had a key the entire time. If you don't know there are lockers around the map which you can use those keys for, and the open lockers have fully decked out weapons
Ghosts 2. Can only dream... Both the campaign and the Extinction story left in a cliffhanger. Extinction is SOOOO good. I love playing solo, especially with relic challenges, but I wouldn't mind a team.
Not a lot of things make me emotional or sad. But every time I think about ghosts I get so sad and almost depressed even. I honestly think ghosts was one of the best cods ever made in my opinion and they should do a remaster if they don’t ever make a second one. And obviously growing up with this being my main cod it really helped me understand and get better at other cods in the future. So seeing this video really made my day 🥹🥲
I'm today years old to learn that there are turrets in the Kraken arena. I always thought the only way to avoid damaging floor is by staying in the middle area on that pile of alien mass coz on my first play through even climbing on top of those shipment containers didn't help and I was downed like 3 times lol
Duuuude! Absolutely loved this game mode! Felt like people hated it because they thought it was hard or didn’t understand the systems given to you! Either way I’m back on it too and been having fun until I’m trying to solo the Always Hard Achievement.. kicking my ass.. 😂😂
Loved extinction especially when you get the arc’s and all the other upgrades with teeth. Cause then you can start playing with the restrictions and stuff which is a ton of fun. Also, if you want an easy game then run the grenade turret. It’s really op.
You mentioned there wasn't a lot of stuff on extinction. As someone who played it a TON ill tell you the grenade turret is OP and makes it super easy to do 9 relic runs of maps.
I use to consume this game like crack. My brother and I would grind each new map until we had it down and could farm the progression system. It can't be stated enough, they need to bring this back.
I loved Exitinction! I think my personal best was 8 relics solo on every map except awakening(I think that's the last one) but the last one I think I could only do 6 relics solo. It's easy af to do 10 relics with 3 others tho😂😂😂 especially if the other 3 know to protect you at the same time
Mayday boss is called the kraken created by the ancestors to protect the arks easily by swimming through water to get to them I would also say the magnum is the best pistol for ark attachment
Honestly this game mode has lots of potential back in the day. It probably could have rivaled zombies and acted as infinitywards third gamemode instead of redoing zombies for the billionth time. I just think if they added more elements to the mode and also add round based side mode for extinction, it could have easily topped zombies.

Come back to the Game
This gamemode aged well compared to other gamemodes left behind by cod
I remember watching my dad play this when i was younger. I've only remembered tid bits of it from then and I didn't have a clue what it was called. This is that game. This randomly popped up in my recommended. I know you probably won't see this, but thank you.
Was an awesome game mode, unjustified hate and I had hundreds of hours with mates from high school clearing extinction maps, just like on bo1, bo2 zombies. Good times, good vibes
@@AverageDunce”humans fear what is different”
Extinction imo was overhated and I loved it so much because of how unique it was to everything else at that time
I just wanna say thank you to the youtubers still making content off extinction and all the online players i have had the privilege to play with, all serious&great players. I'm suprised to still see people playing I might be on&off on extinction but ik i can always come back to it.
Me too man.
No, its just a really crappy retcon that nobody asked for
Nobody should ever acknowledge this "reference" as canon or whatever
@@XOFInfantrymanIt’s not even a retcon, in IW Zombies that’s how it is. But Infinite Warfare and Ghosts aren’t connected so there is no retconning happening.
It’s just how it is for IW Zombies. A reference and reuse of the Cryptids.
The very first COD to introduce objectives in a zombies-like game mode
Oh the hours spent playing this with tha homies. Definitely one of CODs most underrated modes.
"Guys, the thermal drill, go get it."
2 things to mention about point of contact
1. when the helicopter is shooting a hive you can join in and shoot it as well
2. when the meteors are blocking your escape you can also just wait around
Glad I am not the only one still playing extinction till this day.good times. Hopefully in the future another extinction
I think the blue one is Called the phantom
@@arnerippey3677 Yes.
@@kurtzlundstedt6127 you may just want to add that
This brings me back so much Nostalgia, I remember playing this and having so much fun!
I love extinction, nice job. I've managed to solo all maps but awakening. Those gargoyles are ruthless. Keep up the good work bro
i have some very fun and fond memories playing extinction with my friends back in the day.. we bought all the dlcs and beat all of them. Absolutely underrated and super super fun. Definitely recommend lol.
Only the OGs remember the Sniper LoL EE and using a sentry to clip through the fence to get faster times on Point of Contact
Or the Honeybadger being removed being OP
@@Commissioner. they also removed the thermal hybrid optic which ticked me off because of how great that sight was. the highlighted cryptid overlay was like feral instincts but without the wallhacks, and made target acquisition so easy. i didnt even realize it was ever in the mode until i took my disc over to my friend's house and played on his account where his ps3 account still had the day1 version of the game (he played it on ps4), and found that in a search pile. this was after i had been avidly playing the mode for years and it felt so weird
I've been playing this game for nearly 10 years and I just realized that the Trophy System shoots down scorpion projectiles within range.
Yeah, that’s kinda the point of it. What do you think it did? lol
@@HenryMyth I honestly thought it did nothing. I knew that it could take down missiles in multiplayer, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together.
This game was way better than people made it out to be. I have some of my favorite gaming memories from this game
People didn't like Extinction because they played it like zombies when it wasn't
Or probably because it wasn't zombies. People be tripping for no reason
i love this mode, I’m glad you went back and enjoyed it yourself
Fun fact: the guy who gets killed at 6:09 is actually the guy who gives you the drill in Point of Contact
I knew it me and my friend were just talking about that but we weren’t fully sure if it was really him or not.
I really hope that we can get more Extinction in the future, it was so fun!
Makes me sad not knowing where this style of gameplay would of gone for CoD. I hope the dev team went on to go great things!,
Ah extinction was the biggest underated gem of survival modes, i remember trying it and noticing how very different it was from zombies but everyone myself included throw it at the trashcan the moment it was announced but now here i am thinking if only people actually gave it a chance back in the day
I need more people to play this game with. I loved it as a kid and still do since it’s a lot of fun with a lot of replay ability with its restrictions you can put on.
You always put so much effort into your videos. Thank you so much for playing these lesser known games and actually putting in the effort to beat them all, especially all in one video.
Love ghost. For some reason, i loved the aliens instead of zombies. I also love finding arks to attach to my weapons. Makes the game a little easier. Anyways, just found your channel and subscribed.
Extinction is a buried gem
Not hidden, because they all saw it, but buried, because they denied it
Loved playing this with my best friend in 3rd grade. Just moved to a new town and we had a mutual love for games. Me and him discovered extinction in ghost together and fell in love with it
I've been wanting to download ghost to play extinction for quite some time now and watching this video that popped up in my feed made me want to download it and relive those memories again. Great video man 👌🏽👌🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Ghost in general was mad slept on but it’s one of my favs! Extinction was 🔥
This mode needs to comeback it was literally the best part of ghosts
Been loving your vids bro! Convinced me to buy ghosts on steam and me and my mate are having a blast jamming extinction, its so nostalgic.
Keen on some more content keep it up!
Loved this mode I wish we'd get a similar mode in a new cod game. Modes like this could be really good with how far technology has come.
I almost NEVER commented on vids but thanks for making this. I love extinction
Who else is watching not knowing what’s going on but appreciates the content from Samuel
legend
Extinction is actually the only gamemode I like in call of duty. It's probably the main reason ghosts is my favorite game in the series too.
This game is the epitome of my childhood
The lights that work on gills lodge motel
say "LOL"
There was a glitch that allowed you carry more than 3 guns. This made solo play much more fun and viable. I think I was able to solo all the maps, give or take 1
genuinely glad weve finally gotten to the point that new cods are so bad that this ol gem is finally getting the attention it should’ve gotten back in the day
Bro this hit hard this was actually so well made
Fun fact: Infinite warfare zombie "beast from beyond" and Call of duty ghost aliens, are all connected!
I think the reason why people hated it was just because it wasn’t zombies.
Extinction has to be my favorite call of duty mode to ever exist
So seeing this video really made my day 🥹🥲
Didn’t realise how much effort went into extinction it really is underrated but that’s why it will unfortunately never come back
Ghost had the prime zombie mode when it came to survival and combat, had a blast with it
Are you a bot
I'm today years old to learn that there are turrets in the Kraken arena. I always thought the only way to avoid damaging floor is by staying in the middle area on that pile of alien mass coz on my first play through even climbing on top of those shipment containers didn't help and I was downed like 3 times lol
Duuuude! Absolutely loved this game mode! Felt like people hated it because they thought it was hard or didn’t understand the systems given to you! Either way I’m back on it too and been having fun until I’m trying to solo the Always Hard Achievement.. kicking my ass.. 😂😂
Hey man just whanna say thanks. It's 3am and my son is sleeping but quite sick and this is the only thing keeping me awake. Videos awesome so far.
Loved extinction especially when you get the arc’s and all the other upgrades with teeth. Cause then you can start playing with the restrictions and stuff which is a ton of fun. Also, if you want an easy game then run the grenade turret. It’s really op.
Gotta give it some love, my fav cod game mode since I was about eight lol
I too am a CoD Ghosts connoisseur, still waiting for a continuation of the campaign
I've actually never heard of this tbh. I played ghost when it came out, but that's about it. Thanks for introducing it!
You mentioned there wasn't a lot of stuff on extinction. As someone who played it a TON ill tell you the grenade turret is OP and makes it super easy to do 9 relic runs of maps.
For real, you could just solo maps with an upgraded grenade turret.
I fucking loved extinction throughout ghosts. Would love to see this come back some day and given more love
The memories
I use to consume this game like crack. My brother and I would grind each new map until we had it down and could farm the progression system. It can't be stated enough, they need to bring this back.
Extinction I got so many hours in it I was top 50 on ps4 damn I was living it
I loved Exitinction!
Extinction is so underrated
Extinction was different Mad respect
Extinction was epic af I loved it and played it for like 2 years with my buddys
Loved extinction when it came out, the death machine was so broken and you could complete the whole thing in less than 15 mins
Honestly this game mode has lots of potential back in the day. It probably could have rivaled zombies and acted as infinitywards third gamemode instead of redoing zombies for the billionth time. I just think if they added more elements to the mode and also add round based side mode for extinction, it could have easily topped zombies.
The vanguard drone is so hilarious
objectively better than zombies lol
especially bo4 and vanguard zombies
Extinction is legendary, so many all nighters playing this
all the memories are coming back to me
This mode is cool
I never bought the dlc, but I played the first map quite a lot back when the game was new. It's fun.
2:32 zombies?
