MG Astor - Real + UnReal Circumstances Tested! | Review | PowerDrift

- The MG Astor is the newest entrant in the small-SUV segment in India. It does have a decent engine and comes loaded with most of the features you need, including ADAS. Like a jack of all trades, it does everything well. However, with prices from Rs 9.98 lakh to Rs 17.72 lakh (ex-showroom), it goes up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and even its own elder sibling, the MG Hector. So, should you still consider it? Cyrus Dhabhar tells you in his MG Astor review.

I think I'm gonna stop watching Powerdrift channel. Lately all videos are simply opinions jammed together. You are not providing data. We respect your opinion on the cars, that is a major reason we follow your channel BUT data is important to us. We like if the choice is left to us as well. When comparing cars, we love comparison in detail, more data points, more direct visual approach. Even thought you do that in individual review videos, we definately appreciate if can see all the elements in a comparison video. It helps us work through our thinking process and helps us make decisions more easily and confidently.

Put 3 more people in and then try crawling on those bumpy roads….
Then we can justify whether its a SUV’ish enough or not… i don’t drive on jungle roads alone, just trying to be practical…
Do I see a loose underguard flapping at 8:04?
I am more interested in base or 2nd base varient
Location ??? Is it outskirts of Hinjewadi ?
@PowerDrift
How will be upcoming Toyota Corolla cross
Should be wait for Toyota sub suv which is having more features than Astor plus hybrid engine and look wise more aggressive than MG Astor
What you suggest MG ASTOR Base Vs. Toyota Corolla Suv (Base)
As already booked MG ASTOR Base variant and having patience for delivery upto a 1 year but need reliable car upto 15 yrs
Where is the location ?
Yes, alto can do this even better than astor.... alto has shorter wheelbase, low weight and high ground clearance to its advantage. Astor is not a suv, its a crossover. Period...
Correct. And so are all two wheel drives. There is no S in these SUVs. Just a little more ground clearance.
@@vipulchauhan5234 except Mahindra Bolero Neo. Its rear wheel drive, ladder on frame, automatic rear differential lock vehicle. The closest one can get to "SUV" moniker..... still not a complete one...
Bhai astor, creta, seltos sab hi mid size suv hi hai, koi bhi suv nahi bolta hai, astor has a lil bit smaller smallbase than creta, seltos, taigun, so atleast better than them.
@@mridulkasliwal point kya hai bhai ?? SUV means, rear wheel drive, ladder on frame and 4x4 capabilities hota hai, chaahe mid ho, mini ho ya large.... seltos creta taigun s cross kushaq astor sabhi crossover hain... Scorpio 4x4 is a suv or XUV 500 4x4 is a suv or hexa 4x4 was a suv....
Bas bhai bas kar teri capacity alto ki hai samajh agaya hai par apni level ki baaate yah mat kar Kaha Astor hai bey or kaha tin can Alto kuch dimaag laga or ghar jaa bhai chaman chapri.
Driving the same colour/variant of this car since two months. Love this car! ❤️
Any idea, why ground clearance is not revealed by MG?
Astor turbo has fully black interiors right? How is this red interior it’s for cvt right ?
ADAS version has red interiors for both turbo and NA
Full black is in the turbo variant without adas
How is the handling.. and steering response.. will be glad to hear about that as well
There's three modes- city highway and balanced, so steering response is actually in ur hands. U can change as per ur needs.
Is that an orient kanno or 7s26?
That’s a Seiko Red Special.
@@CyrusDhabhar Lovely. I thought as much, but couldn't see that black part of yin yang design. Good taste in watches.
Astor scores well on the interior and feature fronts, however lacks the driving dynamics. Its a good VFM package overall, however opting for Kushaq or Taigun just makes more sense.
But for what reasons? QC of Skoda and Volkswagen in general is going down, with the present issues their new cars are facing, and while it's true that MG is not as established and spares aren't immediately available locally and all, they've still managed to shake up the market and their QC is mostly up to mark (atleast so I've heard from friends who own them and online forums)
@@tejendrayalamanchili3869 Online forums these days are filled with sleeper cells and are mostly agenda driven!
We have a Hector and a recently purchased VW Taigun Topline in the family and have previously owned a Skoda Laura. I speak from my experience- MG makes good cars which I ain’t denying, however the driving dynamics of any German car- you would instantly feel the difference. They’re a different league and just class apart!
@@shrijitnair3957 I totally agree with you, in terms of driving dynamics and general feel, the German brands are up there, if only they wouldn't substitute quantity for quality and competitive pricing, especially when they've had so long to do so.
Bhai taigun ka i accept driving dynamics are better but generally people want a comfortable seats and great interior with the driving, u can't just opt for taigun with just one parameter, again, keep in mind i talking about 90% public, not the one's who only care about the turbo dct\dsg engine .
@@mridulkasliwal You’ve your priorities and I’ve mine! I respect both. 😄
the car is good till that speedo is hovering under 80.. the faster you go and/or the uneven the road gets, it is all over the place and feel skittish..
Compare this with zs ev. Why ev is 2.5x the price?
Because of the battery pack ZS EV cost more because the cost of li ion batteries are too high otherwise everything form saftey to interior they're same
Don't compare it with the base Variant of Astor, it has all the features of sharp variant which is top variant except ADAS. so its not 2.5x.
Do yo know anything about comfort then you know it is best in segment
Great to see every channel reviewing this car on road. But since it's PD will be interested to see 1.5l na review of this since that's were the market flocks not on this 1.3 turbo since the Koreans dominate in comfort and Germans are their for the sporty ride in the turbo price bracket
Absolutely agree! And we have reached out and asked for one too.
@@CyrusDhabhar and the best compact SUVs that handles these terrains inspite of being front wheel drives are the Nissan kicks and the Renault Duster! Alas only the Germans and the Koreans get all the attention because they take care of their press friends well than anyone else!

It
But if you were to drive this car in Bangalore then this test is a good qualifier.
PD team, the Thumbnail was quite unlike Powerdrift design language, Just an observation
An idea why don’t powerdrift do variants explanation , why always the top model ? As an instance for astor the most sold variant is the base. I’ll never know if it can take a beating like this turbocharged
Our sister channels - Zigwheels and CarDekho, do that. Do check out their channels.
@@powerdriftofficial already subscribed to them and love them , But the way PD does it is with a swag like no other. Ofcourse all love to cardekho and zigwheels.
V3 cars is the best, don't need to watch anyother channels for variants explained
@@needimanh and so you watched PD.
@@vipulchauhan5234 what are you tryna say ?
No ventilated seats and that roof which is not sun proof when closed will hurt it
As Cyrus sir is reviewing, does it have cooled seats though???
Nice content 👍👍❤️
Mg Astor a very well packaged car 👍❤️
Thank you! :D
Bruh is a ZS gen2. Why they give special names
It happens only in india
Hey Cyrus
Chinese maal mat dhika yar pls.
I would like you share your opinion by Taking Nexon in the same offroad path which you took for Astor.
I know the answer on which one has sorted basics, but not everyone might know.
I miss fast diesels.
Astor is an impressive car, Well reviewed about everything. This is a good option in this segment.
❤️❤️❤️ PowerDrift
Booked the second base variant on the first day (21st Oct). Showed 6-9 months delivery. Last week it changed to Q1 2023. Can you imagine waiting 1.5 years for just a lower variant? That too booked on the first day itself. Cancelled already. Fuck this brand
Mahindra ka naam suna h ?
This brand is bullshit .
Driving this car since two months. Love this brand!
Bhai dealer badal, i am getting it in just 3 months. 1 week from today. Bhai carens, creta and xuv 700 ki taraf toh dekhna bhi mat, fuck Mahindra fuck Hyundai, fuck Kia bolta firega 🤣
People can do that offroading bit in a wagon R . You really need to put it through it’s paces before call it an SUV ? But it seems like a Nice car
Trust me, they can’t.
No disrespect to cyrus but this is a bit too much cyrus... pls pd do something about it
Waiting for the comparison with Tata Punch!! Lol
Is that a orient kamasutra red I see? Looks very good
Kamasu bro not Kamasutra 😂😂😂
Very informative video. Astor has impressive features
The fact is that these are just cars with a little more ground clearance. Even a hatchback or a sedan can do this any given day. These are UVs or at the most MUVs.
Loved the way he said "pune". Punekars will know what I mean.
The question is, Can we remove that damn bot from the dashboard ?
No.
Hi Cyrus. I want to talk to you.
What kind of trail is this ? My ecosport takes on way more than this
Is it possible to do a side by side comparison showcasing how these SUVs are actually better than a normal everday hatchback in overcoming a challenging terrain? Seeing the small cars fail might instill confidence in these new age "SUVs"😁😂
A normal hatchback can do this. Come to Uttarakhand. An Alto does this all day long.
Powerdrift you rock🔥
So do you #PDArmy!
PowerDrift 😍😍😍
Thank you Mahesh!
I really think "even my Alto can do this"
Would love to see a drag race with other cars.
Coming VERY soon
That trail u used for off-roading is too easy even for a decent hatchback. A sedan might scrape here and there, but for a compact SUV or a hatchback, its too easy. But fair point to u guys, people wont face any worser situations than that on their day to day like. That trail mostly represented the diversions we find on the highways sometimes.
I really hope they bring back sedans. This useless fad of "fake-suv" is getting really out of hand and annoying. And as it's been said , majority of people don't use their compact SUVs off road. Its just another "🐒 see 🐒do" trend....
Bhai tu iska buyer nahi hai toh mat khareed, but people with 10 to 20 lakhs budget and are fed up of sedan has this amazing choice, there's rarely any suv in this segment, not talking about those mpv-like looking carens, etc. So its a perfect blend for them. I don't think u are smarter than the call companies selling this cars. Creta, Astor, Seltos kisi mai bhi ek baar bhet ke dekh
@@mridulkasliwal creta basically overpriced & overhyped dabba hai jise log 🐑budhi se kharid rahe hai, seltos ka kya hai k irne paise kharch krne k baad in case of accident mujhe 🐕ki maut nahi marni, abdrahi bast astor ki it's somewhat acceptable. THE REAL PROBLEM is indian car buyer avi v immature hai aur isiliye companies KEH K LETI HAI buyers ki. We can have much better genres of vehicles. Ye dhobi k kutte (neither proper on road nor proper off road) wale dynamics k sath ye bawasir bech k bas manipulate kr rahe. Ford ne start kiya hagna, ab sab eke ek kr k ganda kar rahe market ko
Drastic downgrade from pd....I hope old pd revives.
That was offroading ?
Pls do a cvt review as well
I test drove it, and it is in final list of my potential next car ❤️

You don't need an "SUV" to drive that road. I have taken my 2005 Indigo to many places like that.. Only issue with Indigo is that the power steering motor has pipe stretching into front it will snap easily (still drivable but heavy steering).. This happens not just on bad roads but on good roads too. Here in Kerala especially in hilly areas you will have long paved dips (inverse of humps) for waterflow. If Indigo is loaded it will easily snap the power steering pipe.
BTW: 2.75L Kms and still going strong as second car.
I can guarantee you can’t do this trail in an indigo. Or any sedan / hatchback. It looks easy on screen, it isn’t.
Shifted from auto car
Power drift is losing its quality
Nice car and review is also very insightful
I love this car, the features are really mind-bending!!
Mind bending, pls explain which feature is so great!!!
Boring video bro..

I love the Seiko Brian May on your wrist…. 😎
Try off-road with bolero Neo ... dedicated video
Don't bring this guy for review we need other OG guys

It's a new car still its front left foglamp isn't working... Is this the reliability we expect form MG after they had a few incidents in the past regarding reliability concerns?
No no. That's the cornering lamp. It depends on which way the steering is turned.
That's cornering headlamp genius 🙄🤣
Its the cornering lamp! some cars use a dedicated reflector in the headlamp or foglamp setup.... some just use the fog lamps
Oh alright @Powerdrift ... Thanks for the info! Was a mistake from my side.
The style in which this guy talking is not impressive enough for PD
