In a word, refreshing. You call it as you see it. Who can complain about that? I'm intrigued but not enough to buy the Pentax Monochrome. I can do monochrome with my Nikon and I do. I started in the early '70's with B&W film. Now I do digital. What I want is an achromatic full frame DSLR. With everybody going mirrorless think that will happen? No it will not. Not talking about Phase One. The cost will always be a barrier for me. Maybe your point about filters with monochrome is something I should more closely examine. So my take away is I learned a little somethin-something therefore this is a good video. As for the technical difficulties? Loved how you handled them. Thanks.
Great review! I can't wait to try it. Couldn't agree more that this sensor in the GRiii seems like a no brainer. Let me know if you'd like to take the GFX100s for a spin, I'd love to see that review! You could make prints of your favorite size, but in feet instead of inches😂
Great review, already a while I am planning to buy monochrome camera, was looking to Leica so far. Have 2 Leica cameras , but not monochrome, Bought second hand. The more I read about this Pentax the more I start to change my mind, yes it’s bigger and more bulky than Leica, I own already 2 Pentax cameras , and some Pentax lenses. Still not made my mind up, my goal is to cut the rope this summer and choose. Get a push forwards after saw this review, 😊😊
Something to keep in mind and no one mentions, the lenses from time gone by can be used, but this camera has a crop sensor, so it is almost impossible to find a wide angle lens. Want a 24mm? Want a 35mm? Not gonna find them in the old lenses, they were designed for 35mm format, so all the focal lengths have to be multiplied by 1.5x(as you mentioned, thanks). Apart form that, the camera is simply incredible! Could Pentax release a full frame version please? And, could other manufacturers follow suit please? Not many people can afford a several thousand pound/dollar/yen Leica set up. Thanks!
I have the Pentax K1 markII because I have so many lenses, and don't want to chance them when I went to digital. and it all works very good. its a fun brand
Nice review. I do not notice the AF-C hit & miss on the regular k-3 iii, though. It’s actually pretty consistent and performs very well. Looking forward to your next review.
Pentax shooter here, and it's great to see people trying these cameras out. The firmware updating is finicky, and I don't do it that often so I find myself looking up exactly how to do it almost every time even though I've had mine for 4 years. It sounds like you're shooting with some of the DA limited lenses. I have the full frame DFA limited lenses for my K-1 and they're also screw drive. I despise the screw drive 😂 so I just manually focus those lenses for the most part. It is however important to point out that Pentax does sell a variety of modern lenses with focusing motors built into the lenses as well. Quiet and tend to focus better, but these still aren't sonys in that aspect. Subscribed 👍
I Just purchased a Leica m262. You are right about blowing out the highlights in the Leica’s. It is a bit more challenging but i love their range finders. Nice video
Thanks for the tip on TAV mode. (I know, read the manual!). I have this camera, maybe for the same reason you like it - I shot lots of b&w in the film era. The story I heard about the B&W sensor was that Sony (i think?) had an excess of them (APS-C) which may have convinced Ricoh to take a chance. Honestly, if they put that small sensor into a K1 body, i wouldn't have liked it. I dont think they would have taken a chance on a full frame B&W sensor because of cost.
@3:15 : The Nikon F, F2 and F3 and the earlier Canon F1 had off-centred flash shoes too. It was a compromise to avoid putting it on the removable pentaprism and it was not a good arrangement. Later cameras (F4 etc) put it on the pentaprism.
Now that's a nice review. I'm a Pentax shooter. I shot B&W with my old film cameras but now I use the K-5II. I might consider the K-3 III at some point. But the monochrome? Not sure on that yet.
Hello! you don't know what video functions are in the camera? Is there an additional sensor crop when shooting video? what file format? is there jelly when filming?
i like your style of reviewing! Subscribed!
Love this video! And love your humor!

Excellent Review. Covering all key features precisely and concisely. Hoping your another in-depth review of K3 monochrome.
One of the best camera reviews, great job !
Ha you are too kind, I have acquired a Sony a7c for the next video so my video and audio should be a little better now.

Love my K3III. It's a workhorse.
Good review. Thanks …
The screw drive does the job but the newer lenses remedy that. Wide angle lenses are not a big issue. If you shoot manual, it does not matter ;)

Love it. Great mountain shot. Are your photos available for purchase?
I am too modest to sell them, but I'm happy to give one to you.
