After 8 years with different Canon cameras (1200d,70d,6D,Eos R)tried also Nikon d7200 and d750,now i sold everything and decided to and go try Pentax K1,best camera i've ever used in my life in every aspect...ergonomic,color science,class leading dynamic range etc.Once you try Pentax,its very hard not to like it.
@@kalinmir That’s your opinion, there is reason why many photographers switched over to fujifilm system because of their distinct multi choice color simulations that produce unique results. I shot Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Canon gives better skin tones. Not saying you’re wrong, but many years many portrait photographers liked using the Nikon D700 because of its sensor that performs well in certain genre.
@@eddiegee2940 I was under the impression that the "film simulation" is for the in camera jpgs and that it doesn't effect the raw files. Hence me thinking that deciding between camera brands based on their "trademark instagram filters" is quite silly
@@kalinmir Sensor does play part on the outcome of image that’s why they’re distinguished by brand name , just ask them photographers using Fuji compared to Canon. It’s the sensor.
@@Emberro I've been near daily carrying my K-1, got a nice thick strap for it so it's not too inconvenient but it feels weird when I switch between it and some of my smaller film cameras.
I just love the Pentax colour science. I own cameras by several manufacturers and I always tend to shoot my Pentax K1 Mark II the most as well as my KP and K3.
My daily shooter is the color version of this camera. It really is a delightful camera to work with. I don't shoot a lot of street, but the shutter is quiet enough that most people won't hear it over normal background noise. The battery life is a dream. I've taken a ten day photography trip on a single battery and no problems. That included three nights of night sky shooting with hour long time lapses.
I switch between my Ricoh GRiii, Olympus and Pentax. My M4/3 Olympus is my ultimate wildlife camera, the GRiii is my grab and go travel camera, for landscapes and astrophotography I use my Pentax K1 and for everything else I love my Pentax K3iii. I enjoy shooting B&W so the K3iii Mono is on my wish list. For some reason many photography magazine journalists (Amateur Photographer?) have got a real downer on Ricoh/Pentax which has me questioning their objectivity and judgement. To claim that a monochrome Leica is their dream camera and then describe the K3iii Mono as an irrelevant dinosaur just seems strange to me.

I have a k-70 and love that camera. There’s just something about the Pentax that is hard to describe to anyone who hasn’t used one. I ordered the k3 monochrome as soon as it as announced. It was a no-brainer for me since I love black and white. No regrets; love the camera.
Standing 2 meters away from these Pentax cameras you can barely notice any mirror flap sound. It wasn't the case with first models, but starting from K-5 they made this mechanics working gently and very quietly. And the DA 21mm f/3.2 lens might be the best for street, the lens in it's own category (despite not being the best amongst DA Limiteds). Well done, honest review, very nice! 👍
Yeah, thats right, and to be honest sound of the mirror and shutter in this camera is realy cool. I like it very much. The 21 with this size and FoV is perfect street/all arounder I agree, again :) I got myself Sigma 30 (yes 30, not 35) 1.4 dc art and its not so compact set anymore :)
I was eager to see a non-Bayer sensor to allow Foveon-level sharpness in a dedicated B&W digital camera. While I would have preferred a full-size sensor, Pentax again designed a camera for photographers. It won't replace my 645z, and I will still shoot B&W film for some subjects . . . but KUDO's to Pentax.
Cześć Michał , od kilku tygodni jestem posiadaczem tego Pentaxa. Masz racje to niesamowity aparat , robie tylko czarno-białe zdjęcia i to aparat wprost wymarzony do tego rodzaju fotografii. Przez lata myślałem o Leice no ale w naszych warunkach jej cena to kosmos. Pentax też nie tani ale wart tej kasy. Jestem zaskoczony jakością zdjęć na b. wysokich czułościach - mistrzostwo świata. Na pewno nie jest to aparat dla wszystkich fotografujących ale ktoś kto lubi właśnie taki rodzaj fotografii będzie zachwycony.

Pentax are struggling to keep up with demand for this camera. Cheaper alternative to Leica monochrome and great low light performance. The colour version is still a great camera as well. Much better low light performance than most of the new mirrorless camera's.
Thanks for the review. Enjoy your work. I use Canon for work but Pentax for fun. Love the sound of the shutter as well. I think they should bring out a Monochrome GR to go up against the Leica Q3.
They should have build the monochrome around the Ricoh GRIII, fixed lens, internal filters and a portable format. That would be competition for the Leica.
Loved the review! I am intrigued by this camera. I was thinking of getting the Leica M11 Mono, since I have a couple of Leica film cameras and some lenses for them. But, this camera is considerably less expensive, even adding a lens or two. Is would give me the option of autofocus, which is nice. Not sure if I want to jump into a DSLR and a whole new lens ecosystem, tho. You’ve given me something to think about

Thank you for a wonderful video. I have to tell you, I must have been under a rock since April, as I didn't realise until about 10 days ago such a camera existed. I have always wanted a pure monochrome sensor camera, I just couldn't afford the Leica monochrome cameras, even on the second hand market. I am not a professional photographer and I am no longer working due to ill health, so I couldn't justify a Leica. I wasn't interested in the Leica as such but only the monochrome sensor. This Pentax K3 III Monochrome is also quite expensive for me, but I decided to buy it, even if I have to sell some photography gear that I have presently. 85 percent of my photos at the moment a normal life Nikon DSLR that I use now get deleted. Out of the 15 percent I am reasonably happy with only about 3 percent I find worth editing. I only shoot in raw. Out of the remaining 3 percent, 2.85 percent are edited in black and white from colour. But I have always wanted a proper monochrome camera. Having spent the last 10 days online trying to find a retailer here in the UK, without luck, I managed yesterday to find one who has just had a delivery of the Pentax K3 III Monochrome. I ordered yesterday, I got an email today that it has been dispatched. So looking forward to it.

Surely if you're a black and white lover and want the higher dynamic range and resolution than a colour sensor will allow, the sensible option is to use a film camera?
The only thing I disagree with is in my experience so far the mono sensor files are black and white and the bayer color sensor files are a computer simulation of what black and white should look like. After shooting this sensor, I never ever want to shoot black and white on a color sensor again. So in my opinion based on my testing there's a huge difference in the output files and it's not just about the "experience." Other than that, great video! 👍👍🙂
@@Emberro The differences are subtle, but very significant. B&W from color is an interpolation and then a guess as to what the correct tonal values are and it's never been that good. The b&w sensor without the color filter is a straight shot: no interpolation and no guessing. Whatever the tonal values are in reality is what you get in the image. It does make all the difference. People can see incorrect color straight away, but b&w requires practice to see it, just like pitch in music. After 40+ years, I'm starting to get the hang of it... 🙂🙂
It kind of makes sense to make a K3 Monochrome as that is Pentax' latest body, but perhaps they would sell more if they released a full frame monochrome camera.
Yeah, the K1 Mono would be great camera as well! Who knows what future will bring :) And about sales, im not sure how good Pentax is in the marketing but I had to wait in queue for k3 :D

Well, if you like shooting in colour, there's the no less enjoyable regular K-3 Mark III waiting for you, with which the Monochrome shares its excellent build, ergonomics, and image quality. Actually, I wouldn't mind owning both, given that the Monochrome is significantly better at the b/w game.
To be honest, I considered some time ago buying regular k3 in jet black edition but too much GAS is too much :) I love my monochrome, its such uniqe and fantastic camera to use :)
And seeing someone on the streets with it, thats like unicorn. But to be honest this k3 is my 2nd favourite camera now, besides m10. Its fantastic "little" beast.
I've bought recently the Pentax KF ! But it's true what you say : Pentax photographers are rare and .... precious ! If you want to be original, think and use Pentax like me !
Maybe people is starting to realize that Leica products are way overpriced and not with the money they ask for. It's more of a status symbol . Kudos to Ricoh. And great photographic TOOL.....
I think Leica is rather safe (for now) but this move from pentax is outstanding. And hearing the sales numbers are high, Im very happy to see the moves from manufacturers.
Hey Greg! This are edited images in Lightroom, although im not heavy editor. Im using mostly curves and some shadow/exposure settings. Nothing fancy. Images from this camera are quite nice to be working with, shadows are rendered very nice but you need to take care of highlits.
QQQ: Does Lightroom or ACR understand this camera's raw file? Lightroom goes through a demosaic process with raw files from color sensors, which messes up the resolution & luminance. A seperate software is required to convert raw files from my modified Nikon D600 to prevent this demosaic process. Thx.

I prefer cameras that can shoot colour and BW. I will not watch. My main monochrom, an old Minolta with CCD sensor. I don't shoot in dark! Nor ever did. Like the Leica awith no colour, I remember that cave people painted in colour! A Human priviledge! Nonsense. We used BW, beacause it's all we had for a long time.. I love my Pentax system.
We live in colour world, thats right. Now matter of restriction is our choice. Remember I dont praise nor im telling you what to buy or watch. But I also think that cameras like this are worth mention and show :)
I have been a Pentax user for many years, i have many of the APSC cameras that they made over the years, i pre ordered the monochrome version and so many were ordered that they could not fill the orfers months later they are still back ordered so I cancelled my order and ordered the Nikon ZF seeiif i have any luck

How about the color science, saturation, contrast. I had Pentax mx3 fixed zoom rangefinder. Was not really impressed with color science
your lens has way more to do with how your colors end up being then any marketing mumbo jambo of "color science,"

I have a K-1, but, having large hands mine has a D-BG6 grip attached. Makes it heavier, but I used to use a 6x7 as my everyday camera, handheld.😀😀😀

really? It seems quite loud on my K70, sometimes scaring off small birds that I'm photographing

They already can't keep this model in stock and is currently just about the best selling camera in Japan.
I'm thinking the way to go would've been a GR3 Monochrome. Maybe that is next. Fingers crossed :)

Maybe people is starting to realize that Leica products are way overpriced and not with the money they ask for.
It's more of a status symbol .

I think Leica is rather safe (for now) but this move from pentax is outstanding. And hearing the sales numbers are high, Im very happy to see the moves from manufacturers.

Hey Greg! This are edited images in Lightroom, although im not heavy editor. Im using mostly curves and some shadow/exposure settings. Nothing fancy. Images from this camera are quite nice to be working with, shadows are rendered very nice but you need to take care of highlits.

QQQ: Does Lightroom or ACR understand this camera's raw file? Lightroom goes through a demosaic process with raw files from color sensors, which messes up the resolution & luminance. A seperate software is required to convert raw files from my modified Nikon D600 to prevent this demosaic process. Thx.
So far i had no issues with processing files. Lightroom recognizes them corectly and i cant see ant problems :)

Iso 50 tys a gdzie ISO 1,600,000 ISO zrób więcej porównań. Do tego odszumianie AI i jest ciekawie. Filmy też mają taką czułość ?
Filmow nie sprawdzalem w ogole :) Wiadomo, ze w dzisiejszym swiecie z narzedziami „ai” do odszumiania nie ma to takiego znaczenia ale dalej jest to jakas ciekawostka. Zwlaszcza w porownaniu color vs mono :)
I wish Pentax would do mirrorless.
Since I switched to mirrorless. DSLR feels too big.
They did, i still have one the pentax k-01! It went out of production years ago...
I prefer cameras that can shoot colour and BW. I will not watch. My main monochrom, an old Minolta with CCD sensor. I don't shoot in dark! Nor ever did. Like the Leica awith no colour, I remember that cave people painted in colour! A Human priviledge! Nonsense. We used BW, beacause it's all we had for a long time.. I love my Pentax system.
We live in colour world, thats right. Now matter of restriction is our choice. Remember I dont praise nor im telling you what to buy or watch. But I also think that cameras like this are worth mention and show :)
I have been a Pentax user for many years, i have many of the APSC cameras that they made over the years, i pre ordered the monochrome version and so many were ordered that they could not fill the orfers months later they are still back ordered so I cancelled my order and ordered the Nikon ZF seeiif i have any luck
