    Leave it to you to have a respectable, high-quality sponsor to inspire a video filled with great meals (and meal-prep friendly). I hope you get to keep this beaut!!! I actually saw a pressure cooker vs. "Instant Pot" video on Eater today and I am very, very certain that the higher quality that comes with Cuckoo products would have vastly changed the outcome of that video.

      Thank you so much!! I can't speak for the instant pot as I have not tried it but from my experience of using different types of cookers, cuckoo is definitely higher quality. I definitely get to keep it and I am stoked!!!

    I'd cook up a bigger batch of oats to save some energy, I just feel like making such small portions is a bit of a waste - plus, that way there's even less cooking involved if you prep your oats for a couple of days! :)

    I live in a basement apartment and had to make my own makeshift kitchen and I totally wish I went the multi cooker route. It's such minimalist, hands off cooking. And because you only have one pot you're more likely to get all of your vegetables in and eat healthy.

    Afe you sure it's not meant for steelcut oats? They take atleast 40 minutes conventionally. And regular rolled oats are done in around 4 minutes after reaching cooking heat (a further 10-15minites is fine). I think the oats function may be for steel cut oats. It is on mine but I have a basic turn dial one.

    If not you should try it in place of rice it's so good! It's great for breakfast with your "egg" lol on top a little soy sauce and of course sriracha yummy! Or even crunchy peanut butter, sesame oil, sriracha, and sesame seeds really it's delicious! Top with a little chopped cilantro 😁

    Do you like this appliance or the Instant Pot better? Which one has a larger pot within it? Rose this would make my mom life/plant-based lifestyle so much easier! I would think this appliance would be a safer option over the Instant Pot since it automatically releases steam on its own! What is your opinion on which is best? I have a small child (8 years old) and a 12 year old so I want to get something safe.

      The Instant pot comes in a variety of sizes ranging from 3qt to 8+ qt depending on the generation and size you want. The instant pot also releases steam on its own but it does offer a quick release option for you to manually do it if you prefer. I have the 5qt instant pot duo and I love it. I can even make soy yogurt in it!

    • @forwimp
      @forwimp 6 років тому +3

      I haven't tried the Cuckoo pressure cooker, but I have 3 Instant Pots in different sizes. I'm dumbfounded as to why Cuckoo would put a non-stick coating on their pot. I have never had any problem cleaning the shiny stainless Instant Pot, or wished it had a non-stick coating. Every non-stick coated pan I've ever had has lost it's non-stick coating into my food. I don't do that any more. I also have a few different racks, stacked pans and wire baskets that I put in my stainless pot. I don't have any worry about scratching. As for the steam release, I've never been burned when releasing the pressure on an Instant Pot. Actually, I've been a bit perplexed, wondering why it isn't hotter. I routinely put my hand in the plume of steam, and it doesn't burn. I imagine that's because it sucks a lot of air into the stream, cooling it off. Or, maybe i have non-combustable hands. This Cuckoo looks nice, but Instant Pot is cheaper and I can get replacement gaskets and accessories for it. This was a great video.

    In parts of the United States, a particular type of sweet potato (the large orange variety) are called "yams". In Africa, I believes yams are referring to an entirely unrelated tuber. Anyways in the States yams and orange sweet potatoes are synonyms.

    Great meal ideas but it's Instant Pot all the way for me. The non-stick coating of this multi cooker is a no-no for me for regular use. It's just not as safe as they want us to believe. Also, it seems to take so long to do anything in it. I can cook perfect oats directly in my serving bowl inside the IP (lazy to the max) in 15 minutes total (coming to pressure, cooking, pressure release). I have an 8qt one which costs almost half the price of the cuckoo. The bigger pot allows me to cook almost everything directly in the serving or storing dish, which I place directly inside the Instant Pot, on a trivet. It cuts down on cleaning time pretty nicely!
    But I'm happy for you if it suits your needs and you get to keep it around in your kitchen.

    • @caterose
      @caterose 6 років тому

      Hey Nym. I have the smaller instant pot duo. How do you put a serving bowl inside the instant pot?

    • @nymeria8852
      @nymeria8852 6 років тому

      Hello, I have the big 8qt so I don't know if a serving bowl will fit into your smaller one. But the set up is simple; 1 cup or so or water in the Instant Pot. Put the trivet in and place your dish on a trivet. when I'm cooking oatmeal my dish is just my regular bowl (heat resistant though!) and when I'm cooking rice for example it's in a square glass storage dish that I can close with a lid and put in the fridge or freezer when it's done cooking.

    • @philia9351
      @philia9351 6 років тому

      Nym Eria are you not scared of the bowls cracking/shattering from the rapid temperature changes?

    • @nymeria8852
      @nymeria8852 6 років тому

      The change in temperature is not rapid. It takes a while for the IP to come to full pressure and heat. Any good heatproof dish will be fine. "Pot in pot" is used very often as a cooking method. Personally, I only use the metal pot of the IP when I'm cooking large quantities of beans, soup or sauces. When I'm looking to only have 1 -4 servings, I use a glass container.

    • @philia9351
      @philia9351 6 років тому

    I like my old fashioned oats to show the oat structure. To me all of these methods of cooking oats turns them into mush. I do not like the oats like that, reminds me of wallpaper paste. I can make a beautiful bowl of oats in about 10 minutes. Brown rice the same, I wash it first, bring to a boil. Let boil a couple of minutes, wash it again (helps remove the arsenic) then bring to a boil, shut off after a couple of minutes, cover, wait about 8 minutes. Best rice you will ever eat!

      I am the same way with my oats. I don't do mushy oatmeal, and it only takes me 2 minutes because I cook mine in the microwave.

    I like your channel but you should add more recipes that really show off the advantages of such a device: slow set and forget cooking and high pressure, faster cooking. Vegan yogurt, and beans would be good examples.

    I have an Instant Pot and using it is the only way I am able to properly cook brown rice. My rice cooker leaves it crunchy, and I have never gotten it right on the stove, either.

      What rice cooker do you use? Depending on the rice cooker, rice can sometimes cook unevenly. I've had that happens with some cheaper rivecookers. I'm glad you got it figured out on the instant pot!!

      Cheap Lazy Vegan Oh, I am sure its just my cooker. We were going to upgrade, but since the rice functions on the pressure cooker work so well, we probably won’t for awhile.

      Learned this a few weeks ago but yes sweet potatoes are orange, but there's a sweet potato called a jewel yam (I think) but it's not a yam, it's a sweet potato.

      They're all sweet potatoes; a member of the Morning Glory family. Just different varieties/colors. Yams, related to Lilys, are a completely different plant family from Africa and are very difficult to find in the US. When southern farmers started growing the softer, orange sweet potatoes, they wanted to make them appear different in the store. So, they started calling them yams. Today the U.S. Department of Agriculture requires labels with the term ‘yam’ to be accompanied by the term ‘sweet potato.’ Unless you specifically search for yams, which are usually found in an international market, you are probably eating sweet potatoes!
