I get the price differential is 25% or 33% depending on which direction you're looking at it, but I do not understand why anyone would save $100 to lose the high speed print function, much less wifi print. That said with respect to people having issues with the etched build plate removal as mentioned in the video, they need to sharpen their putty knives, use wider putty knives, and keep the ground edge towards the model and the flat side flat to the plate in addition to fixing their bottom exposure times, bottom level counts, and adding in proper pre and after exposure pauses to the bottom layers.
There is one really big misconception in this video that most 3D printing UA-camrs make: The resin comes in 500g and 1000g bottles. That is nowhere near to 1l, depending on the resin. Check the datasheets. The Anycubic grey eco Resin, I mostly use, comes in densities ranging from 1.05 to 1.25g/ml. Based on experience, the resin is mostly in the 1.2x range of density. That means, the bottles contain a bit more than 800ml on average due to safety margins in filling, tending to overfill slightly.
I had recently the same problem and I bought S3. Why? Mainly because of that springy plate in S4 that makes a huge hassle of every cleaning of the plate. I change resin a lot between colours and I definitely don't want to stain my clear or white resin with black or grey. But if you plan to print 95% in one colour (e.g. grey) then S4 can be fine for you due to extra sensors. These are not needed, but they are here: you can clearly see if you are close to max level of resin and if you are empty, then just add some and that's it. And it's always good to filter your resin from time to time to remove broken supports if any and similar stuff. Especially after failed prints. Oh, and Elegoo offers stell funnels, there are fantastic reusable tools for resin printing.
As someone who's new to resin printing, I wanted to buy the Mars 5 but after seeing this and the 4 ultra video, I think I'll spend a little more and get the Saturn 4 Ultra
The "its stuck on too hard" was the very first thing i noticed about these 4 series. After testing, dropping from 30 seconds initial exposure down to 20 and from 8 initial layers to 5 solved this issue. From the factory, they really wanted to make sure that nothing comes off the plate......
Sadly I'm not sure I can justify going up to the Saturn 4 Ultra and so was looking at this or the Mars 5 Ultra, thanks for the video, I think I will go with this one.

Most resin is sold in 1KG bottles not 1L! I know you know this but that is an important false equivalencey that the resin community needs to know - some resins 1KG may = 1L but it's not necessarily a constant! Funny how we just talked about this the other day in a comment though.
You are completely right. The "smoke" color with white accents is unquestionable eyesore on it's own, let alone if you compare it to an emerald green with black accents. It is the biggest reason to want the basic over the ultra, even over the cost.
just bought saturn 3 ultra for the same price as the base saturn 4. faster delivery because not on pre-order, same print quality, larger print size and wifi sold it to me.
Great video. When the Saturn 3 is pretty much the same printer there's no reason to pick the regular Saturn 4 IMO. Bed level had never been that big of an issue, the older one isn't much slower, and the old version can even print taller! Elegoo had been selling the refurbished Saturn 2 for $200 and that's the true value king. Though considering that a few bottles of resin would run you $100, there's very little reason to not get the Ultra instead.
Love the green of my Saturn 4, but no anti aliasing is a deal breaker for me. How can a standard feature like that not be included on a printer in 2024?? Mine is sadly going back.
@@FauxHammer hmm, anti aliasing is not there for me on the newest chitubox. Be aware that only the ultra has that feature. I spoke with elegoo and some other people from the community. I can send you a screenshot of the email if you need one. It's very disappointing, no reviews mention it, there's nothing on the website. Only after buying you realize it.
I am interested in resin printers but I don’t do miniatures. Could you do a video on practical things you can do with resin? Things that make more sense for resin than fdm?
Hi there. I feel the same about resin: I love the machines, I love the fantastic finishing - but I print practical things 95% of the time. The printing cycle on FDM is more convenient and clean. Just a few times I used Resin for my practical parts and if you really need precision you must account for the shrinking that will happen on the following days after you print them. So, it is time-consuming. 🤷♂️
I print mostly practical things. Precision on resin is waaaay higher. You can very easily print things that will fit into each other with resin, while with FDM you usually need to under extrude. On the other hand if you FDM print with something better that PLA (e.g. ABS or PETG) you will get much better durability while maintaining stiffness. For Resin generally tougher resins are softer/more flexible, which is not good for many applications. What can you do is limited only with your imagination.
You said that this is the same screen as the Saturn three, I just broke my screen on my Saturn ultra 4, can I use the screen for my ultra? They don’t seem to have the replacement parts on the website yet.
I'd be quite keen on a skip generation comparison. Most people don't upgrade every generation, but instead look for the point where the feature benefits become justifiable. So for example, I have a Saturn 2. Saturn 3 wasn't likely to tempt me, but a 2 vs 4 comparison might. It might also highlight how far (or not?) things have come over that period.
What I would find really useful would be a detailed comparison on the slicer settings between the normal and the pro’s. Reviews mention that the lift speeds don’t come into the pros due to the tilting release vat, but it would be nice to see how much that really simplifies getting the resin settings dialled in for miniatures and dimensional accuracy
@@FauxHammer Thanks, and I saw this. As a FDM person that is considering adding resin to the mix - it would be good to see how the missing settings would be used and what it would save me as a beginner. Probably a bit of a niche request!
@@Eyegazersphoto no worries. IO mean with resin there are far fewer settings than FDM anyway. But lift and retract speeds are some of the more complex and confusing ones. With the Ultra, they are all gone.
So i got one yesterday. Set it up test printed nicely tried another print of mine that failed found out why resliced it and shot for round two...then the touch screen died. Maybe I'm cursed maybe I got a lemon either way I found out i ordered it from the wrong elegoo amazon page and paid way too much for it.
Thanks , for others and your self, i have noticed that the Ultra is highly rated . On fence Ultra or HeyGear Reflex printer? or both good , Both seemed nice at Rapid, but dang prices make a difference, but would rather go with quality.
I want to do it but I have a lot on and only about 3 people have requested this. Also the longer i wait, the more Saturn3's are selling out so it will be a video that has about a week's worth of life. Lets see what i can do
it is a sleek printer but... I've never struggled with leveling a build plate so I don't see a drastic improvement over the saturn 3 right now it's 40 euros more for a flipping lid, a slippery build plate and 3cm less build height does look cooler
Maybe they could design a tray like magnetic plate that covers the lover part of the build plate and the sides high enough to cover the gap so no resin can get there. The springs would still be functional. Because of that build plate I deleted the Saturn 4 / 4 Ultra of my list. In the beginning it will be fun, but later a nightmare to clean that gap
I haven't had any problem with the gap. It's no worse than my 3 Ultra. The real headache is that there's no grip, so I usually handle it with two hands.
good review. the build plate does put me off, not just the fact its a nightmare resin trap but the compression issue that crops up, to me, could be made worse with this. loot studios has some amazing models and ive had no print issues with the pre supported ones. a comparison vid with the 3 vs 4 would be good to see. keep up the great reviews and editing! I got an S4U as my first resin printer. I don't see a point to the non-Ultra. Way fewer features for not much less money. Long term we'll see how the tilting vat works out, but I've been happy with its performance thus far. Now I just need to get less shitty at doing supports.
Please compare Saturn 4 to Saturn 3 I really contemplating Saturn 3 Ultra vs Saturn 4. And i think 40$ more expensive 3U may be better value for me since wifi, also plus 40 mm on Z axis which is sweet.
Interesting video BUT my beef is with your purchase links - its all well and good you get a percentage no issue with that BUT the prices are the same price on the internet so there's nothing in it for me..............!
I have been using a whambam magnetic plate upgrade on my Phrozen Sonic Mini 8ks for almost a year now. It allows me to put the base layer exposure to essentially unlimited so I never have to worry about the base letting loose. And when a print is done, the original build plate stays in. I peel the whambam iron plate off the magnetic plate, and flex so the print is immediately off the plate. I can literally start a new print within 3 minutes. Most of that time is making sure with a scraper there's no cured resin left in the vat. Should I get a new printer (eventually, when this one fails beyond repair), I will certainly get that upgrade immediately regardless which printer it is. I love almost never having to handle the heavy buildplate itself. It stays in the printer except for cleaning when I switch to a different resin or something like that. Now I understand that when switching between a large amount of printers such an upgrade would not work for you. What are your thoughts about those plates? I'd recommend them to basically anyone who doesn't mind investing 30 minutes and maybe €50 or so to have a far better printing experience.
It's a matter of good scraper. Just don't use there blunt metal ones, but buy some sharp plastic: cost is like 1$ per scraper so even if you need to replace one every 30-50 prints it's fine. And you do not damage the plate, which is good if you want to keet that pattern visible on front faces of some of your prints.
Just bought the Mars 5 Ultra and im wondering now if the new features are necessary. Really unsure if I shouldve went with this printer as a first one.

Man in NZ the choices are tough. Elegoo has a single distribution in NZ who overprices everything by like 50% and importing costs hundreds additional. Anycubic however store ships to NZ for $40, though I'd rather a Saturn but it just doesn't make any sense.

Ahhhh, bad ux on 3d printers, us fdm guys had to deal with that since forever. And then bambu came. My dad said this about my p1s "this thing is vey good, as i can just click print on the app, without any knowledge, and you (me) can change any setting you want" Pedantic comment that does not add anything here 2:28 it buggs me that you call it an "external power transformer", because the label " dc" suggests that the brick is indeed a full power supply, and not just a transformer

Question! If the bed springs compress to make it flat level and then springs back when it lowers won’t that leave small gaps on the high side between print layers?
They know. The decision they make is based on manufacturing costs. The control board will be at the back. And 1 board is cheaper than 1 board with extension cables to the front

No AA on this printer.... that's a huge issue.... why is that not a deal breaker? The ultra has AA active.... this one doesn't. Ridiculous!!! Elegoo, wtf is that about? If you want to remove the vowels using AA, be warned only the ultra can use AA.

Hi really need help im bubble dizzy looking at all the printers, so basically im going to start jewelry casting and cant decide between saturn ultra 4, g2k, phozen sonic 14k, or any cubic 14k what do you think would be the best one, i know every one will say different but i like your knowledge and understanding of the machines and how you review them any help would be great thanks

If you need a consistent printer and don;t wnat to worry about temperature, get the GKTWOI it's currently £649! see the code and click the link on my latest community post The Anycubic is a much better printer than they have done before, but it;s faffy witha weird heating system that will need cleaning. I love the Saturn 4 aswell, if you need speed and quality, that;s the one. though with castable resins thyiou may be limited on speed by the resion itslef being a bit more stretchy
Why in today's world do you need to use a USB thumb drive? Why can't I just plug it into my computer and send the file directly over? Hooked up once and forget about it. This is something I just don't understand.

did you have to calibrate it? I haven't and been printing fine out of the box but wonder id I should, It's a pain to clean just for test prints.
Loving my Saturn 4 ultra. I did some calibration and ended up at 1.9sec using sunlu ABS like. Great prints and crazy fast.

I showed this already in my 4 ultra review. Literally took some a screenshot of the settings gs and removed half of them that are no longer relevant.

HeyGears is easily the best printer on the market. But they lock you in to their resin
I really really want to see a s3u vs s4u including print speed times doing the same prints. No one on UA-cam has done this and it's frustrating lol

with loss of build height Elegoo lost advantage over Anycubic M5S which has mostly same features as S4.

I just bought the Mars 3 Pro
Maybe they could design a tray like magnetic plate that covers the lover part of the build plate and the sides high enough to cover the gap so no resin can get there. The springs would still be functional. Because of that build plate I deleted the Saturn 4 / 4 Ultra of my list. In the beginning it will be fun, but later a nightmare to clean that gap
I haven't had any problem with the gap. It's no worse than my 3 Ultra. The real headache is that there's no grip, so I usually handle it with two hands.

good review. the build plate does put me off, not just the fact its a nightmare resin trap but the compression issue that crops up, to me, could be made worse with this.
loot studios has some amazing models and ive had no print issues with the pre supported ones.
a comparison vid with the 3 vs 4 would be good to see.

I got an S4U as my first resin printer. I don't see a point to the non-Ultra. Way fewer features for not much less money. Long term we'll see how the tilting vat works out, but I've been happy with its performance thus far. Now I just need to get less shitty at doing supports.

I really contemplating Saturn 3 Ultra vs Saturn 4.
And i think 40$ more expensive 3U may be better value for me since wifi, also plus 40 mm on Z axis which is sweet.

Interesting video BUT my beef is with your purchase links - its all well and good you get a percentage no issue with that BUT the prices are the same price on the internet so there's nothing in it for me..............!
I have been using a whambam magnetic plate upgrade on my Phrozen Sonic Mini 8ks for almost a year now. It allows me to put the base layer exposure to essentially unlimited so I never have to worry about the base letting loose. And when a print is done, the original build plate stays in. I peel the whambam iron plate off the magnetic plate, and flex so the print is immediately off the plate. I can literally start a new print within 3 minutes. Most of that time is making sure with a scraper there's no cured resin left in the vat.
Should I get a new printer (eventually, when this one fails beyond repair), I will certainly get that upgrade immediately regardless which printer it is. I love almost never having to handle the heavy buildplate itself. It stays in the printer except for cleaning when I switch to a different resin or something like that.
Now I understand that when switching between a large amount of printers such an upgrade would not work for you.
What are your thoughts about those plates? I'd recommend them to basically anyone who doesn't mind investing 30 minutes and maybe €50 or so to have a far better printing experience.
If you think the elegoo laser etch is tough to remove prints from, done get an Abycubic printer. Those etched plates rock.

It's a matter of good scraper. Just don't use there blunt metal ones, but buy some sharp plastic: cost is like 1$ per scraper so even if you need to replace one every 30-50 prints it's fine. And you do not damage the plate, which is good if you want to keet that pattern visible on front faces of some of your prints.

Just bought the Mars 5 Ultra and im wondering now if the new features are necessary. Really unsure if I shouldve went with this printer as a first one.
The tilting vat of the Ultra erases half of the settings (Z distances and and speeds) in the slicer, which is excellent for beginners.

Man in NZ the choices are tough. Elegoo has a single distribution in NZ who overprices everything by like 50% and importing costs hundreds additional. Anycubic however store ships to NZ for $40, though I'd rather a Saturn but it just doesn't make any sense.

They know. The decision they make is based on manufacturing costs. The control board will be at the back. And 1 board is cheaper than 1 board with extension cables to the front
Do you have a comparison of the Elegoos and the Acubic Ms5 pro? Im looking to buy and rn its a race between Acubic Ms5 pro, Elegoo Saturn4 ans Elegoo Mars5U.
But like you said these do win out against the Mars' with a sweet spot in size. I guess i was just torn by a tilt tray.

No AA on this printer.... that's a huge issue.... why is that not a deal breaker? The ultra has AA active.... this one doesn't. Ridiculous!!! Elegoo, wtf is that about? If you want to remove the vowels using AA, be warned only the ultra can use AA.
It really is ridiculous, no mention anywhere on their website. I wouldn't recommend this printer to anyone. Mine sadly needs to go back.

No spout & extra cleaning with the new build plate means I cant buy either this printer or the Ultra even though I want to, these are not trivial points (if you think they are you don't do a lot of resin printing)…why are Elegoo not watching Fauxhammer reviews and just using them as research & development tools, I mean he's telling you you're good and more importantly bad points you need to improve upon.
Just put a decent spout on & cover up that silly awkward space above the build plate...( PLEASE )

I bought the saturn 4 ultra about 3 days before your last review (soz, I would have used your affiliate link otherwise). I completely agree that only a moron designed that build plate handle.... like seriously WTF? Also. Without that drip tray, i would have destroyed my screen on the first print, but why did they have to emboss it???? A bitch to clean. Still, amazing printer and Ross your reviews on both i think are best on YT for honesty about the pros and cons. Certainly I would stick with the Ultra. Thanks for another great review!

Hi really need help im bubble dizzy looking at all the printers, so basically im going to start jewelry casting and cant decide between saturn ultra 4, g2k, phozen sonic 14k, or any cubic 14k what do you think would be the best one, i know every one will say different but i like your knowledge and understanding of the machines and how you review them any help would be great thanks

The Anycubic is a much better printer than they have done before, but it;s faffy witha weird heating system that will need cleaning.
I love the Saturn 4 aswell, if you need speed and quality, that;s the one. though with castable resins thyiou may be limited on speed by the resion itslef being a bit more stretchy

Why in today's world do you need to use a USB thumb drive? Why can't I just plug it into my computer and send the file directly over? Hooked up once and forget about it. This is something I just don't understand.
