- Hedingham Castle is considered one of the best-preserved Norman keeps in Europe. The castle fortifications and outbuildings were built around 1100, and the keep around 1140.
However, the keep is the only significant medieval structure that has survived, albeit with two turrets and the remains of a long demolished forebuilding.
The castle was constructed by Aubrey de Vere I, a Norman baron. Hedingham was awarded to him by William the Conqueror.
Castle Hedingham has witnessed significant historical events. Matilda, wife of King Stephen, breathed her last here on May 3, 1152. The castle also endured two sieges, in 1216 and 1217, amidst the conflict between King John, rebel barons, and a French prince.
The castle was taken from the de Veres upon the execution of John de Vere, 12th Earl of Oxford, for treason against Edward IV in 1462. Edward then awarded Hedingham to his brother, Richard, Duke of Gloucester (later King Richard III), who bestowed it on Henry Barley, Sheriff of Essex and Hertfordshire.
After the death of Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, the new king, Henry VII, returned Hedingham to the de Veres in the person of Lancastrian supporter John de Vere, 13th Earl of Oxford.
By the early 18th century, the direct lineage had expired, and the castle was sold.
It was later returned in the 20th century to the ownership of paternal and maternal descendants of the Devere`s in the form of the Lindsay family, who occupies the castle to this day.
This documentary also touches on legends, ghosts and myths associated with the castle.
It is open to the public, and further information can be found on their website at: www.hedinghamc...

Happy New Year, Everyone! ❤ from🗽
I could watch these all day! They inspire me to keep digging in my genealogy, going on almost a decade now finding new ancestors, depending on the tree lol. Latest additions are those from the noble Grey family! Love the history you offer, the super high quality camera and outstanding editing! Would love more of your spiritual expeditions! I think this apparition is odd because if a reflection from the room your'e in, it would have been on both walls, yet it's only on the one wall, and most reflections don't start with a finger pointing ha ha. Happy 2024 to you both!!!
Thank you very much for your kind comments and support. I hope to shoot something ghostly later this year. Wishing you all the best for 2024!

Excellent Chris, thank you and Happy New Year to you and all in your household. Incredible paranormal capture; when we lived in a haunted property we caught similar things on film which would often move at right angles, one time even reappearing from the ceiling in the form of a male head. That wasn’t the strangest thing to happen there, which sounds odd now I’m writing it down…
Same to you, Matt! Sounds like you have some great captures there. I would have love to have seen that. Have a great New Year!
This was great, so well done and interesting. Hope to see more soon.😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, Chris. This was amazing. There was definitely something going through the doorway and it wasn’t human. Not a live human at least. I really enjoy the old churches and chapels and castles. You never know what you’ll find there. I hope you and Oana and Poppy have a wonderful New Year Eve and day!❤️
