He is awesome!!! I dont think he gets enough credit for everything he has done!!! Let alone how long this man has doing this!! He is the 🐐!!! He should be way more famous than he is!!!
The GOAT! I remember seeing him all the time back in the day on TV! Then in the 80's I caught him live in Atlantic City NJ at either The Golden Nugget Casino or The Tropicana Casino, I can't remember which one, opening up for the late great Sarah Vaughan. What a show!!!
Thank you so much for posting this. This was THE APPEARANCE that I watched as a kid that made me decide to become a professional Ventriloquist. It was wonderful to see this again after all of these years!
SHANNONANDROD...WOW! That is such an AMAZING story!!!! I had the same experience{But I became a Professional Musician} the first time I heard the 🔫⚘GUNS N' ROSES ⚘🔫Album "APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION" SO between that, & THE ENTIRE Billy Joel Song Catalog, I realized that's what I wanted to do for the Rest of My Life, & I was VERY, VERY fortunate to get to live My Dreams! So Thank You for this comment! Cheers!
I remember as a kid I used to see willie /Lester at the Apollo thr.in Harlem.Always enjoyed his act. This I think was before he sang.King Curtis was the house band.It was known as the Chitterling circuit then. He was in the company of all the great comedians Redd Foxx,moms.pigmeat,sandman.He was always so funny an then the Blk.liberation era came ..an there willie was sporting his Afro.what a pleasure to be entertained as a kid and an Adult.Continued Success.
@The Grin Reaper In the history of professional ventriloquism, there haven't been that many African-Americans in the field, particularly those who've been as famous and well-known like the Willie and Lester act. I've always loved watching ventriloquists and appreciated the art of ventriloquism. I happened to notice throughout the years though, that there haven't been many people of color in it, so it's only natural for people of color to appreciate seeing this represented. Has nothing to do with insecurities.
I can agree on that OP. I've been a fan of the Willie Tyler & Lester act since I was a kid! Ever seen "The Jeffersons" episode he was on? Good stuff. He's one of the most entertaining ventriloquists I've ever seen. Edgar Bergen and Willie Tyler are my favorites. Real masters of their craft. Black ventriloquists have been fewer in number within the field, but they definitely have had a history. Some people are just born to entertain. Willie Tyler could have just been a singer, but maybe that would have been to competitive. This act is great though, what a creative guy.

When I was a kid, THIS was who i hoped to see on TV when there was a comedian. This man is a legend.

I was lying in bed and just thought about this duo. I have not seen them in over 20 years.
I forget the exact year. But I saw them at the Alameda County Fair. Pretty sure it was the early 1970s. I was like six or seven years old at the time.
