    30 years ago....
    In 6 years, I had 5 children, 4 cesareans, 3 boys, 2 girls, and 1 very tired mama. I never bounced back.
    From that point on, I had to wear a support garment to hold myself together, breathing was labored when in a sitting position, and sharp, knifelike pain in my abdomen if i did not wear the garment.
    I lived for 13 years like this until a nurse heard me huffing and puffing when i bent over. She told me to get checked for internal hernia. The surgeon found diastasis recti.
    My diastasis was out at my sides. My perineal sac had absolutely no support. He scheduled a medically necessary abdominoplasty. 200 internal stitches later and I was put back together and felt better than I had in 20 years.
    That was 11 years ago, so the surgery is wearing off. Thank you for this! I will definitely try them!!!

    I committed to months of daily exercise to repair a major diastasis after my second pregnancy, but they were the wrong exercises as I saw no change. These seem more effective and gentle. I then resigned myself to living with the abdominal gap. I have two small hernias in my D.R., one of which became way bigger by doing standard core workouts (nothing to do with diastasis repair and everything to do with wanting a flat tummy) involving abdominal twists - please, never do ab twists if you have this! I wish I’d discovered Bob and Brad back then.

    Thank you Bob and Brad for talking about all these important (yet neglected or forgotten) health issues. You guys are great and you have helped me a lot. Please make a video on breading and abdominal bracing (in some kind of yoga positions) for lumbar pain relief, I think you would help a lot of people!

    I've been following you guys for ages and I'm so happy to see a video on Diastasis! The only thing I would love to add is that, depending on the amount stretching that occurred in pregnancy and the amount of lingering laxity in the abdominal connective tissue and muscles postpartum, it can be quite difficult to feel the transverse abdominis contract on the back. Sitting or side-lying are other great positions to try out:)

    I developed diastasis recti after surgery when my abdominal muscles had to be separated. Extreme back pain. Could not bend forwarded or I'd fall. Was never told this would be an issue post op. Exercise has helped but it took a long time to be diagnosed so recovery has been slow.

    I first heard about this when my husband went to a gastroenterologist about a potential hernia and she said he had it. She told him traditional ab exercises wouldn’t help and could potentially make things worse. I’ve been looking into it ever since because I have it, too. In my case, I constantly have issues with my lower back and I knew strengthening my core would help, but I was never successful in doing that. Now I have some specific exercises from a source I trust that I’m excited to try out!

    • @indominusdragonlee1805
      @indominusdragonlee1805 4 роки тому

      M A-B Actually when I was pregnant I did yoga that did encourage the pelvic tilt, but that was the only one that my yoga instructor did. She also very much stressed kegels to strengthen the pelvic floor and stretching out the groin to strengthen and keep it flexible to prepare. With my first I was very dedicated to that and I feel like the birth was easier because of it.

    Can you do these exercises during pregnancy to help reverse the start of diastasis?

    • @Wrathchild244
      @Wrathchild244 Рік тому

      You would have to have great abdominals--actual visual six pack-- already in order to save yourself. The ordinary person can do nothing about how far a pregnancy will stretch the abdomials.

    I have a mesh hernia repair in my umbilical area and a large diastasis (it’s 6cm currently, after five pregnancies). Do you know if trying to close the gap again causes the mesh to become misshapen or anything? A lot of exercises cause tugging feelings in that area. My doctors looked at the mesh on ultrasound and it didn’t seemed compromised, but kind of warped. Have you ever seen such a large diastasis close up?

    Other videos I have been watching have all said that crunches are to be avoided if you have Diastis Recti so I was surprised that you recommend them here.Now I am confused

    • @caristewart481
      @caristewart481 3 роки тому +4

      They are not saying to do traditional crunches. Those need to be avoided, as well as planks. They are saying to do a static crunch and only once you can fire off your trans abdominals. These exercises 100% work to close a DRA. I saw a physical therapist for mine and in 6 weeks we got mine to close 40%. I need to continue them but I believe I can get it fully closed in time. I've had 4 kids and never thought mine would close without surgery. So I'll take that 40% for now.
      Try these exercises!

    Guys any tips on what i might have? I dont know if its scoliosis, but my body just does involuntary movements if i let it. Usually i do them because they feel good but they put me in very awkward postures.. its like if my spine is moving uncontrollaby. I notice when i do exercise now i always stuggle to be aware wether i am symmetrical or not, as sometimes one foot would be more in front of the other in pushups and i dont feel it, but i correct it anyways and try to be as symmetrical as possible.
