I appreciate your essays! I've gotta remember to extend more grace to "the other wing." Oof. "Afraid of losing religious freedom or afraid of losing religious superiority" will stick with me.
This is so powerful and as a follower of Jesus, calls out Jesus followers in a very honest and real way. thank you for sharing your beautiful honesty and gift with us! What you do is making a difference and people need to hear what you have to say!
Preach. I wish I hadn't been stuck in a Mormon persecution complex for so long. It took me years and years of looking outside my selfish bubble to see a lot of problems minorites face today, and stuff like for-profit prisons, the war on drugs, and police violence really make me upset. I have family who learn about that and brush it off with personal anecdotes or "that doesn't affect me..." Like, if you see people suffer and it doesn't affect you or move you at all, that's really self-damning, isn't it?
it is pretty self-damning but the point is that you got away from that mormon persecutuon complex no. And i would not beat myself up about it to much Mormonism is a cult, cults have that effect on people if the indoctrination sticks for a while even after you leave its becouse thats how indoctrination works. so yeah again don´t beat yourself up about it to much,
Brilliant! Well said. Conservative Christians seem to have lost sight of empathy and the real meaning of Christ’s teachings. Thank you Zelph on the Shelf 🌟🌟🌟🌟
i mean conservatism pretty much always turns into people not having any empathy at all... i mean just look at conservative moments around the world, usually they only care about you if you´re like them (in america that means white, christian and male.... now that i think about it that tends to be the case in most majority white counteries)
Stella Davis I also know science. And it was mostly a joke lol. I view Tanner as a spiritual leader kinda, but I don’t think I’d ever participate in organized religion again
@@kailunartic6647 It was mostly a joke? What does that even mean? You know that science is simply a method to discovering or verifying truth to a claim, right? Do you know a better method, and if so what is it?
Stella Davis science is fact, it’s not something you can believe in. Spirituality is separate from science. I know about scientific fact, and am still a bit spiritual in some aspects. It doesn’t hurt anyone for me to have my own spiritual beliefs. I’d never force my beliefs on anyone else, including my future children. And I am not part of, and hope to never be part of, an organized religion. Plus the gods I have an affinity for (not necessarily believe in) are all Pagan or Eastern Deities, not the Christian God, fuck that guy.
“Blessed are them which are scorned for the sake of justice...” I’d rather we not need a religious framework to enact change, but if we had to use one we might as well use the one espoused by a social reformer who died for his cause.

Wow this was really powerful and eye opening. It makes me want to study and research this stuff even more. Thank you for this, hopefully this can touch the very someone you were talking to.💖
Beautiful. Nothing that couldn’t be said in general conference, but won’t be. The church depends on the chosen / peculiar people doctrine for its product differentiation. Large numbers of Mormons waking up to an understanding of universal oneness would be very bad for the corporation’s business model.
The virtual slave labor provided to business by prisons is horrible. And then to top it off, the tax payer is paying the cost of keeping the prisoners incarcerated. I've heard our politicians rail against China's slave labor, but we have one hell of a big beam in our own eye. 1. If you can not point to a victim that was financially or physically harmed, there is no crime. 2. If no one was physically harmed, there should be no prison/jail sentence. 3. There should be no privately owned/for profit prisons. It is just stupid and wrong for anyone to make money off incarcerating people. Just my thoughts.
I love this! I would like to add something to the conversation. I'm from Spain, and I see each and everyday how the Christian USA is literally practising cultural imperialism all over the world. When I was a teenager, all I wanted (aswell as all my friends) was to go to an american highschool, eat american food, have this amazing house in a beautiful and safe residential neighbourhood, celebrate the same exact festivities such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. In short, we just wanted to live like people live in american movies. We literally thought the USA was the perfect country, because that's what the media and hegemonic culture are trying to sell. And sadly, they are succeeding. The simple fact that there are many cheap american restaurants here and Spanish people (specially the poorest of us) is slowly but surely abandoning their own traditions just to be cooler really saddens me. Or just the fact that every Spaniard my age can write a comment in english just like I am doing right now (and they will NEED it to find a job), but most american youngsters can't and will never need to talk or even understand another language in their lives. And we still feel inferior in some kind of way just because we are not *AMEERICAAAN* (insert that Spongebob creating a rainbow meme). All of this to say that I am so glad and truly thankful that there is many young people starting to be aware of the violence that hides behind that "free country" makeup. I'm really glad that many young people like you in the USA are committed to make a change in your own country, because the change you make, whether we non-americans like it or not, is going to be an example for the rest of the world (I personally don't like it because it perpetuates that cultural imperialist dinamics, duh). Anyways thank you so much for your videos, and I'm sending lots of love and strength to everyone who's fighting religious nonsense and lack of empathy
I wish I could tamp down my emotions enough during debates about this to sound this reasonable. Would you be my random script writer? I have nothing to barter, but you can stay in my cabin in the Unitas. Just throwing that out there. I have some very intimidating debaters in my circle.
Sounds nice but what do you do when one side refuses to use evidence and rational thinking and are incapable of changing their mind based on evidence and rational thinking.
There's a gaping epistemological hole here. If I have a belief, and in trying to be open, I seek to understand my 'enemy's' belief. At the end of the day, I now understand 2 beliefs, but I haven't found the truth (or at least I don't know if I have just based on my outreach). Listening to their story and feeling their hurt doesn't legitimize their world view. I could easily have 2 misguided world views now. You can feel things that aren't true, you can perceive things in a way that they are not really. perceive
Mip it’s not about just taking feelings for reality. it’s about increasing awareness, and with it, wisdom. understanding someone else doesn’t require you to adopt all their beliefs or practices, but will inform you on how to deal in more meaningful, mutually beneficial ways with them.
Tanner, I love this video. I think you would really enjoy reading White Too Long by Robert P. Jones. It incorporates research and stats into the discussion about the integral role racism played in building American Christianity. .
You can have tons of empathy and see injustice without saying the whole system is messed up. You can strive for reform and improvement without saying the whole system sucks. Some people are seriously big babies and we don't need to cater to every cry and every person whining. Some people are wicked. Jesus saw people coming to him just because they wanted free food. He knew their hearts were only wanting a hand-out and their motives were totally selfish. You can feel the pain of others and be perfectly sensitive, but you can also think everybody is super honest and in need when they are actually manipulative losers. Be innocent as doves but wise as serpents. This article says lets be innocent as doves and ignorant as Ostriches with heads in the sand. This is totally wrong.
Does my martyr spirit break you down yet? Split me open, don't be afraid. Make my blood cry out from the ground. This life is the only one you are getting glory in. You have traded truth for a lie. Therefore take the mark you have chosen. 666 is one with you
ua-cam.com/video/yVEGMy8Bun8/v-deo.html If you ever do another random stream with Mr. Atheist or something, you guys should react to the video "5 incredible LDS Mission Stories," number 3 "Amazing Conversion Story of a Drug Lord." It's funny to see all the LDS commenters say "Wow , #3 really hit the feels!" and "Wow , the third is so amazing blah, blah , blah." when if you're not Mormon the story comes off as so incredibly questionable, and it makes you wonder if the story is completely made up or at least extremely exaggerated.
You have to remember that the police in this country are not what you think they are not statist they are elected by the citizenry and the state has tried to co-opt their power over time and have done a pretty good job. And that's how cults start. Learn science it's more poetic and fulfilling then any spirituality.
