When rings are secured on canned goods, it can be hard to spot a false seal. The lid can come unsealed, but the ring is there to hold it on, so it’s not obvious. Perhaps more importantly, I have seen people share pictures of jars exploding when the contents somehow got bacteria in it. Without a ring, the lid would simply pop off. With a ring forcing the lid to stay on, the pressure created by the “fizz” of the bacteria caused the jar to explode. While I don’t store rings on my jars, I do think it’s fine to do so if the ring is placed very loosely - like it’s just sitting there on top of the lid, but not screwed on.
Thanks! I just carry the trays to the kitchen to package, but the kitchen is in the next room to where the freeze dryer is. Retired at 40 showed a hack recommended to him if you have a food saver type machine. You would make a sleeve that fits the tray and then seal one end. Then you snip off a diagonal from the sealed end to the side (pre-sealed side) and then you can pour the contents of the tray nicely in the mason jar.
Brilliant ideas, Thank you! I’ve had the same food waste issues. My trays are round. I’ll try to find a similar basket.
Absolutely brilliant!! Your creativity and resourcefulness is pretty amazing! You gave me a few ideas... Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
Why no rings on canned goods?? I feel like you can provide a great explanation...
