I've lived in Memphis for all 56 years of my life and the happiest memories I have are sitting with my grandmother (Big Mama) every Saturday morning from 11am to 12:30 watching every second of this. Thank you for posting this

This was shot in the old WHBQ (channel 13, ABC affiliate) studio, which hosted wrestling from about 1962 to 197. When Jerry Jarrett split off from Nick Gulas, he went to WMC (channel 5, NBC affiliate) The WMC studio looked much better on TV than the WHBQ studio.

For those of us raised in the northeast. We missed out on so much when it came to wrestling. Where I live it was only Sammartino's Pittsburgh Territory and the WWWF with McMahon Sr. It was so boring and stale especially with Sammartino being shoved down our throats. It's such a joy to watch these old Memphis clips, the Florida territories and Texas territories. It has such an exciting feel to it. It's so much for entertaining. The people down south and west really had some good wrestling to watch.

Being from Memphis....it was always the unexpected..got the audience involved...and believe it or not the announcers Lance Russell and Dave Brown were such an integral part making it all so believable

A lot of us that came up on Memphis wrestling are not from Memphis. Eastern Arkansas, Northwest Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, Southwestern Kentucky folks all watched Memphis Wrestling.

@@RealArtfulDodger thanks man! Yeah, I’m doing fine. I’m hoping to get and post more Memphis soon. Probably start with 1990, since the dvds I had from that year were difficult to work with. I also have to convert vhs to dvd of a couple of Nashville matches from 2007.

The polyester leisure suit commercial is what cracked me up the most. I was probably the only guy in the country who never wore one. I loved the 70's but the polyester leisure suit was a mistake on par with disco and gold chains around your neck big enough to choke a camel.

if im not mistaken.. ...there was someone else before Dave Brown on Ch 13...maybe George Klein..but I know the George Klein hosted an American Bandstand like Show on Saturday afternoon. so maybe it wasn't him..at ..one time wrestling was originally on Saturday afternoon at 330

"Its weird to see Lance Russell with his hair
that long, not real long but longer than in later years........
Jerry Lawler has shifted back and forth
between fan fave to rule breaker so many times
    I've lost count........
The others wrestlers who competed in Memphis
at that time and appeared on the TV broadcasts
    at that time were great........
Seeing Eddie Marlin still as an active wrestler is
great,I liked the more bigger studio here
the smaller one in the later years was
just to close to everyone, the fans screaming
    hard to hear the interviews........
But,great action from the archives of
Wrestling when it was still wrestling, before Vince McMahon
    Messed it up........
    Thanks for the Wrestling Memories."-🤗.🌐🌏🌐.

How could it be 74? Barnes and Dundee didn't appear until 1975.

Some of the tapes stop and start at different moments...then silence...then pick back up again. Still a work in progress. Just happy to have some of these Lawler/Bass promos I've never heard. I just found the big angle where Sam Bass, Al Greene and Hickerson turn on Lawler, leaving him a bloody mess in the studio....great stuff.

    • @allantaylor9694

I see. That makes sense. I would love to hear them. I really enjoyed hearing those audio tapes so far. Really looking forward to more posts. You do a great job Scott. BTW, you were immensely entertaining during your tenures in the USWA. If only you would have come along 10 years earlier after Jimmy Hart left. Would have been perfect timing.

    • @KentuckyFriedRasslin

Thanks for setting me straight on the dates. I have Mark James's record books, so it should fairly be easy to figure it out. The tricky part is finding footage that sort of matches the audio; not even sure if that's necessary, but I think once I get the hang of it, the results will be better.
There's just not much footage of Sam out there unfortunately. Actually, I think what happened in this case, I was looking for a complete show intro with Lance and Dave talking about that day's action; once I recorded that, I flipped the tape over and found the fantastic Lawler, Bass, Fuller stuff, so I assumed it was around the same time period. But yeah, the Dundee thing should have been a dead giveaway. Most of the tapes aren't labeled with dates, just stuff like "Lawler/Bass," "Dundee vs. Lawler," "Bobo Brazil Interview," etc.
