Hi kimberly🤗, BF or board foot not boyfriend is equal to the cubic inches of the lumber. 2” x 2 “ are in inches because of this sign (“) while the 14’ is in foot because of this sign(‘), since 12 inches is equal to 1 foot, therefore to make 14’ foot to inches you need to divide it by 12 and it goes like this, 14’ foot / (12 inches x 1 foot), cancel foot the the remaining is inches. So that’ the answer for your question where you get 12 in 2”x2”x(14/12)”. I hope you get it right.
