Gary, you're so freaking right. I actually started my company just about when my son was born (3 years ago), and he as a newborn was easier to handle than my business. As hard as it was 'raising' both my kid and my startup, it kind of forced me to treat my company like my second kid, cuz it's kind of like I had twins. Now I have a daughter too and she just climbs on chairs and eats ladybugs and all kinds of stuff.

Thanks, Gary. Being that we're going to have our 2nd child sometime within the next week, I can't wait to take that journey. I think I do treat my business like that. With it being something that I do from 3AM to 6AM M-F and on weekends, I have accept certain realities about its limitations, but focus on the natural growth that I've been experiencing.
P.S. I'm really glad to see you making a video again. They're always so refreshing to see you spit your thoughts.

Gary, I'm been following you for 7 or 8 years now. You are the man. I love your advice. I'm in the client services business, consulting and managing social media for clients just like you. I've learned so much from you. Thank you!!!

Gary, great I was raised to treat my possessions, personal business and business like my own child. I stay out of my own way and use small town rules. Like my corner store knowing my Mom's name, the butcher cutting extra pork chops because my brother won a wrestling match. Knowing my client's family, dog, friends, needs /wants all while knowing mine touches their emotional core. It's that above / beyond. I continue to grow my Legacy. Yes Legacy my 15yr old & 20 yr old sons work by my side.

Your advice keeps me going when I feel like giving up. You're such an inspiration and give advice that women entrepreneurs can relate with too. Thank you.

btw, if you ever need a poster child for your ideas from Crush It (not that you do), I essentially took your ideas and used them in the fountain pen world. In 3 years my wife and I went from just an idea to now having a staff of 14 crushing the freaking crap out of the online fountain pen retail world. No doubt your story impacted me for the better, and I will forever be grateful. If you're ever strolling through central VA, stop by my shop and I'll buy you lunch ;) And give you a kickass pen!

I only had one and yet I know exactly what you mean. My parents had four children and the photo albums reflect what they did with each child.
I think you used a great analogy and more important, you drove home the idea not to expect perfection and do it anyway. We will learn as we go. Thanks.

Great vid Gary. While I don't have kids - I'm on my second business now, and I find some parallels there too - I'm not nearly as "gotta do everything right" as I was in my prior business. Part of it was getting out of the "start-up" mentality - but a lot is what you're saying... Focusing on kicking-ass at what I do, and not worrying about every little detail. Sometimes you're going to fail... just fail harder, laugh and learn and get back to work!
