  • Back at the hangar today, and we have something a little different. We needed to move our T-33 for a special event this weekend, which means we need to give our aircraft tug a little bit of work. Still needs a little more work, so we had to use our other tug, which lacks a fuel gauge. I think you can see where this is going...
The pilot of the TA-4J is ‪@JetJerod‬ and he has a UA-cam channel, and you guys can find him here:

Great stuff, the "soundtrack" was amazing!
I hope the T-33 flies again. Beautiful machine.

Cool seeing the T-33! My father actually worked on those. My father was stationed at Laredo AFB in Laredo Texas in the 50s. He was with the 3640th Flight line maintenance squadron. I have one of his old patches sewn on one my Marine Corps jackets as a remembrance. Beautiful aircraft!

The tiny A-4 is making a lot of noise. Also love the sound of the T-6's engine and prop.

Surprising how noisy that one is, and it doesn't even have an afterburner! I had to pull the audio back in editing to stay within the audio limits for the video (-14 dBfs), and she is still pretty noisy.

The starter pod in your T-33 hangar is a rare article. It’s a Palouste air starter unit originally developed but Turbomeca for various French jets but later license built by Rolls Royce for aircraft such as the Sea Vixen, Buccaneer and Phantom. Mainly used on the aircraft carriers of the time due to their small size. I would assume that given the British used on their Phantoms, would make sense why you guys have one.

Don't you wish the F4 electrical components were that easy to get to? 🙂 As always, thanks for sharing.

She's a good looking one, and is the current visiting aircraft of the month over at Lone Star Flight Museum.

nice to see Jerod's Skyhawk flying! When dealing with multiple items that don't work, it's good to see something that does! (or am I just projecting my own experiences here??)😄

There are a number of F-4's still in storage at AMARC (Davis-Monthan)

There sure are! As I've been told, when the F-4's were being turned into QF-4 drones, that we were able to get some support from them. Once the QF-4 program shut down, and they start using old F-16's for drones, that support dried up over time.

I worked on the F4 when I was stationed in Germany way back in the day. If you have to change the generator, you'll spend time in the intake. PITA to work on the engine when still in the aircraft, but running it on the trimpad was a blast.

An MJ 4 to be exact, smaller version is an MJ 1. Put a lot of miles on those! At my last assignment at RAF Alconbury, my shop handled war ready weapons equipment for A-10s before Desert Storm. We had an MJ 4 assigned to our shop with fork attachments, made for a handy forktruck.

Good afternoon sir. Regarding the plane.
Isn't it easier to make a test lamp from a socket and a bulb of sufficient power, then add wires and clips, and turn it on instead of a fuse?
In this way you can see the increased load in the circuit, and by turning off various fragments of the circuit, a relatively safe find a shorting, without constantly blowing the fuse.
I'm not from the US, but our army also uses this method. I know it's not too scientific and correct - but sometimes you need to quickly find a problem with minimal effort.

For a small plane, the Skyhawk sure makes a lot of noise !
Instantly noticed the J-79, minus the nozzle. Got to extract lots of stripped 12-point bolts off them as fitter, Inconel is not easy to drill.
Carefull when jacking up that tug, those things are built heavy. Great stuff !

All that noise and no afterburner! For sure on the tug, we used jack stand on it after she was lifted.

Where's the A26 to go with cowl. Inquiring minds need to know.

I'll ask, as I think there was an A-26 in the Foundation's collection.

If I understand what I think I know, ours was owned by collins at one point.

    Any info on that mig?

    • @DieselThunderAviation
      @DieselThunderAviation  3 місяці тому +1

That isn't ours, but it does belong to another organization at our airfield. If I have it correct, that was a Chinese Mig, not a Soviet one.

@@DieselThunderAviation interesting... I guess at some point I'll have to get in front the camera and do some walk around / video of the VAC aircraft
