I really like this version Feels tragic but, for me, hopeful in a way. Like telling yourself you're going to leave something behind, once and for all, facing the future, but remembering the lessons learnt, specially that final part of reprise, like connecting with your past story but not in a tragic way, more of like a goodbye one. That's it for me, thats the "Promise" that I made for myself and this song makes me remember about
I really enjoy hearing how people personally interpret and connect to these songs. Not just my covers, but the originals. I think a lot of fans of SH music have a connection to the songs that runs a little deeper than usual. I know that's why I've spent to so much time covering these songs. Thanks for sharing!
_”In my restless dreams...I see that town...Silent Hill. You promised you’d take me there again someday...but you never did. Well, I’m alone there now...in our special place...”_ “I got a letter...the name on the envelope said “Mary”. My wife’s name...it’s ridiculous. Couldn’t possibly be true...that’s what I keep telling myself. A dead person can’t write a letter. Mary died of that _damn_ disease 3 years ago. So then, why am I looking for her? “Our special place”...what could she mean? This whole town was our “special place”. Could she mean the park on the lake...? We spent the whole day there, just the two of us, staring at the water. Could Mary really be there? Is she really alive...waiting for me?”
02:47 - I can feel an avalanche of feelings echoing inside my head as this sound transports me to a place far beyond this dimension. Could this be a portal to "nowhere"?
There may well be some subconscious Mike McCready influence slipping in there. Pearl Jam and the 1990s in general was the music of my formative years. Thanks for listening and for the insightful comment!
The guitar solo during the breakdown made me save this to my playlist. The piano coming in at the end, a perfect callback to the original Promise... that was what nearly brought tears.
this is damn fantastic, i genuinely like this way more than akira's version although both are great, also that little passage from reprise at the end is just so fitting

Thanks MegaShredd! Awesome handle, by the way. My whole thing is to try and keep the original vibe of the songs, just dropping in a bit of guitar geek stuff here to give people a reason to listen to it outside of the original. Silent Hill is all about atmosphere. If you ignore that in your cover and just go full-on metal or whatever, then you've cut out the essence of the song.
@@MarkLambertMusic I could not agree more. I've been prototyping a metal cover of a SH2 song since 2016 every october but indeed they always fail to capture the essence. I suspect I'll give it a go this year as well as it has become a tradition now. Glad that you like my handle!
on the guitar settings what's going on? is it like disortion with echo or reverb on? i'm a beginner on electric guitar and the sound effects are a new experience for me but the experienced guitar player would probably be able to tell by ear what's happening at the settings.
There are four distinct guitar parts. The rhythm guitar heard throughout, which is mostly clean, but has a tiny bit of "dirt" added to it to give it some grit. Playing over that is a second clean guitar with a tremolo effect. A guitar with a middling amount of distortion is used for the melody parts. Finally, the solo guitar which has more distortion and a wah-wah pedal.
Awesome cover!!! I was wondering if I could use this soundtrack for a video that I have in mind about Silent Hill... I wanted to ask for authorization (if it is not possible, it's ok!).
Sure, and thanks for asking, because many don't. If you can throw a credit in your video description that'd be great. Best of luck with the video! Any Silent Hill content is great content.
Thanks Alex! It's been long enough since I recorded this one that it will be difficult to recall exactly what gear and FX I used. As best I can remember: Guitar: Fender Strat with Texas Special pickups Guitar FX: That was before I bought my Helix, so it was probably a combination of BIAS FX and Scuffham S-Gear MIDI/Keyboard Input: Impulse 61 Drums: EZDrummer (VST) Bass: MODO BASS (VST) Piano: Pianoteq (VST) Various Synth Sounds: Omnisphere and Serum DAW: Studio One
Really cool, love how atmospherical you made it sound, but purely judging the guitar parts I would say that your vibrato is a bit off, would suggest working on that!
I really like this version

That touch of Reprise at the end made me the hypest man on earth for a good 30 seconds.

this is severely underrated to a point that i will explode
Man killed it !! the entire silent hill society thank you.
Thank you my fellow card-carrying member of the Silent Hill society!
This deserves a sub. It's such a fresh take on an old favorite and holds its own against it!
High praise indeed bassboost. Many thanks!
SILENT HILL IS ALIVE!
💕💕💕🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥yeahhh
I was so hyped but that last trailer ruined it for me :( I hope they do better
@@FollowTheDamnTrain0I mean, it’s a combat trailer, what else did you expect? Although I didn’t really like how the guns sounded so suppressed.
@@SokWorld2007 Since when we as silent hill fans cared about combat? And what they should was horrible too. Seemed like a cheap fan made trailer
@@FollowTheDamnTrain0 They should have focused on the horror side of the game rather than the combat part imo.
Easily one of the best covers I’ve heard of anything on UA-cam. Impressive on so many levels
Wonderful job, Lambert.
