  • Silver and Gold Buying Trends | The Exchange Podcast | EP. 31 discusses the recent trends both Andrew and Matt are seeing when it comes to retail and wholesale buying and selling in the precious metals markets. When it comes to the current silver and gold spot price, people have been changing the items they have been buying due to the high prices. In this video, we discuss the types of silver and gold we see people buying and what types of metals people should be staying away from.

I agree that 1/2 ounce gold is the least popular fractional, but that's what I'm currently stacking. 13 more to complete a tube, then off to another goal. I'm stacking one every month, sometimes 2.

Switched to 90% silver for a while now. Its sovereign and reasonable premium at times. Maybe less tax implications in the future? Buffalos and eagles. Just keep stacking and learning.

I like to have a 70% to 30% ratio Gold to Silver. I have 1/10th oz, 1/4oz, 1oz coins, but I do have 1-(1/2 oz coin) because of a great deal. Just bought 2 Pre-33 $10 Liberty Coins, because premium was 2.5%. I stack and collect for a fun way to have additional savings.

Fractional gold is so much easier to resell back into the secondary market and you get the premium back. 1g, 1/10 always go fast. 5g, 10g, quarter oz. are ok. Agree on half oz.
In assay is always better for bars too.
had to sell 100oz silver bar recently to pay some bills. It was painfully slow to sell and went under spot. I would still stick with generics 1 oz. rounds silver and bars as well as 5,10 oz. bars. preferrably JM or Englehart, RCM if no extra premium on them.
At the end of the day I buy what I can bay at or below scrap prices (not melt) which is gold jewelry and sterling. Easiest to liquidate with least loss as you can always scrap them.

I keep telling myself I should get a 1/2 ounce gold and I never have. It's either 1/4 or full ounce. The only exception recently has been Kookaburras. For silver it's either bars or 90% recently.

On the charts silver had a double top and gold had a head and shoulders. These are patterns consistent with lower prices and a small downturn.

People seem to be gravitating towards the lower premium items recently. Seems the sand is shifting beneath our feet. We went from crazy high premiums during the Silver squeeze down to near nothing when spots dropped. To now, where under melt isn't unheard of. So it's understandable that stackers want to get items as close to or under spot. Paying $50 - $100 over spot for an Eagle or Buffalo, only to see spot drop again and premiums get decimated, would kinda suck.

I have most of my weight in halves. I have all the sizes, but I feel like 1/2 oz is the sweet spot for excitement to price. Plus ive gotten several near spot deals on 1/2 oz gold,

I bought 10oz silver bars and ASEs until silver got over $28. Now I'm sitting silver out until I figure out if $30 is the new floor (which my intuition tells me it likely is). In the meantime, I'm stacking fractional gold AGEs. I only buy American Eagles because they are literally the coin of the realm.

Gold is by far the better buy, much lower premium percentage. Paying 15-20% premiums on silver is just bad investing.

I like low premium, low spread metals, so I have a lot of generic rounds and bars. If I find a good deal, I'll pick up some maples, eagles, or 90%. I did get some dimes recently at 21x when melt was about 21.2x.

I'm into mostly sovereign silver coins and 5 Oz bars. I'm most interested in that stuff. I have a few collectors type of items but always open to whatever catches my eye. I don't have any generic silver rounds like buffalos - they just don't interest me.
    Great video guys!

Fractionals have higher premiums then whole or multi-ounce. I like literal British Sovereigns for gold when buying fractional gold, low premiums and close enough to 1/4 oz. Silver rounds or 1 oz bars have the lowest premiums so that’s a buy. For Government Backed Silver, I’m liking Kangaroos right now.
