@@BoardGameNation I'm hooked on A&A anniversary edition. Would love to see some gameplay and strategies for that! Or at least a discussion on balance and bids.

Working on this. I look forward to sharing some ideas in the live stream tonight. We hope you can join us! ua-cam.com/users/liveSjvrEKNr6_4?feature=share
I noticed a tricky tactic that Germany could have played on the last turn to give them a great chance of winning. The only Allied land units in range of Shanghai were the British tank and Infantry in the territory bordering Shanghai to the south (Kiangsu?). Germany could have flown their fighter and Bomber from the Caucasus to attack those units instead of landing in Shanghai. Had they eliminated those units, the victory would have been won on the spot without any Allied land units to capture Shanghai in subsequent turns. Such a nail-biter of a game!
I’d really enjoy watching almost any board game played with this high of production quality. More A&A would be great, but having some variety would be more enjoyable and probably better for channel growth. Especially reproductions of other world finals. This series inspired me to look for similar content for other board games I love, but nothing matches this! It’s just so well done.
You're very kind. Any particular games you would like to see? Does it matter to you if the play-by-plays are tournament/championship level or is it just this style of reproduction that you enjoy? Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
That is the great thing about that game, but trying to get 6 or 7 people together for the replay could be really challenging, but if done well could be epic. Trying to sort that one out.
I know it was a rush situation, but Germany had an 80% shot to snipe the land units in Kwangtung on G5 while the Shanghai defense was somewhere under 10% chance to hold.
IDK if I'm silly, but I think J4 should have produced a fleet with a transport option to retake Shanghai on J5 or spread American forces on the other 2 zones. The 3 fighters added nothing but that's easy in retrospect.
I really appreciate you keeping the ending a secret. It really goes to show y’all’s dedication to documenting the games that there wasn’t much foreshadowing. I know y’all played as a team, I found it interesting that the other finalists were also a team. Makes me wonder if having someone to bounce strategy off of or hand the dice to when the rolls are bad is an advantage.
I have played in A&A tournaments solo and with a partner, each has pluses and drawbacks. A teammate can help catch silly mistakes, but can also break your concentration. I enjoy both options, but only with a good partner. They don't have to be the very best player. They have to be someone that you want to spend that much time "mind-melding" with. If you end up with a bad teammate, it can definitely ruin the entire experience. Thanks for watching!
One of the things I love about these videos is how Gary will go on and on lamenting this or that, and then Doug's head pops in with a short, succinct "Brutal." Great interaction and timing. Thank you for putting this all together.
This was an amazing series to watch. Very well laid out. Easy to follow and understand. I especially love that you got your opponents to join you for the final round. It was a lot of fun to hear their thoughts. Thank you for this detailed break down. I really enjoyed it.
Glad you are enjoying them! We will definitely be make more, but not at this pace. These take a lot work... too much to make in a week and stay sane. Question: Did you happen to order the game using the link in our description?
Would love to see more of this. The round-by-round reconstruction was easy to follow: the most impressive of all is that we have a four-way commentary from all players, which makes this a fantastic educational and entertainment resource since we're hearing both sides comment on their long-term strategy.
Non-tournament game play through like you did for this tournament game will be your next level of EPIC. Thank you for the hard, tedious work of putting this series together.
Followed this series from the first episode. I'll echo what a lot of others are saying: this is the highest quality A&A content I've seen on UA-cam. Congrats on the win and keep up the great work on the channel, looking forward to more!
Playing the "big blue box" version with my dad back in the early 90s is a cherished memory. These vids and your channel has stirred an interest to play again with my dad. Great series!
You guys just set the standard for AA bat reps going forward! I watched all the videos and live streams for this series, they were all awesome! I will watch the live stream tonight as well. Thank you for making such a stellar series!
Watched this whole series and I have to say that having this like "after action report" style for the video genuinely makes it way easier to watch. I don't think that I could watch this if it was a 'live play' because Axis and Allies takes forever. Boiling a 5-hour game down to like an hour and a half and the talk of strategy(and having your opponents on is a great touch!) really makes a difference. I loved this game as a kid but none of my family ever wanted to play it, lol, so being able to watch good content about it is really something.
It absolutely was! Thanks for watching! Lots more to come! We just got back from the 2024 A&A World Championships. This time, we captured a lot more of the action and we can't wait to share it! Thanks for watching!
Excellent series! One piece of advice about the way the game clock works (taking this from another long game with a timer for tournaments [Twilight Imperium 4]); they call it a soft time limit. After the 5 hour timer expires the rule is you finish the round you are currently in. So in this instance even if the timer expired at the start of UK5 you would play to the end of US5. IMO it makes so much more sense and isn’t as prone to trying to manipulate the time limit (these guys are all very sportsmanlike but just in case you run into people who aren’t). Since you made such a popular video on the series I’m sure the tournament organizers would take your advice if you decided to talk to them about this idea. Imagine if in the future the game clock expired mid-combat where one side was about to win, it’d be so unsatisfying and even if the other team agreed to allow the combat to finish it’d be a bit of a controversy/messy ending.
i believe they said earlier in the series there's a 15min grace period, so while they try to end by 5 hrs they are basically kicked out after 5hr 15min max. as for strategy, it seems having tournament games always 5 turns total, no matter what the time will lead to the most measured and fair gameplay (and about 5 hours i practice always, 6 hrs at the very max)
Thank you for the feedback! We are working on a ruleset for tournaments now that plan to start testing soon. It will likely use a timing rule similar to what you described. For certain, it will have separate timers rather than a shared time pool. Keep an eye on the channel for more on this as we have it. Thanks for watching!
I have really enjoyed playing A&A, but honestly never thought I would enjoy watching it. You guys did it RIGHT! This was so well put together! @@BoardGameNation Now that I have finished the video (and what a nail-biter of a finish that was), I'll expound on my prior comment. I'd love to see more A&A content, especially some overviews of the various editions. As someone who only played the A&A Classic, I find these new versions exciting and interesting. As a side note, I'd love to see you check out any other reprints of old Avalon Hill Games (I realize A&A was not an AH game and only got moved to AH by Hasbro). Rail Baron was a particular favorite of mine back when I was a kid raiding my Dad's game closet!
This was a really cool series to watch! It's hard to keep such a clear record of how events unfolded and you did an excellent job of this for the audience. As you say, there's an endless number of things that you notice in hindsight but I have one comment that could have won the axis the game. They could have deployed bombers in Caucasus for G-4 and then taken out the infantry and tank in Kwangtung on G-5. This would have prevented the UK from getting that last victory city. Thanks again for the series, I hope to see more A&A content on the channel!

You have a new sub, and fan! Would love to see more game play by plays like this, especially with Doug and your strategy insights, really explaining the why of each movement and turn. Thank you!
I've only ever played one game of A&A before and that was years ago, but watching this series was so damn fun. Really hope you guys do more of these games/recaps. Also the production value was perfection
Excellent series watched it all. Your hours of work really show. This series inspired me to play 1942 online. Thank you bringing an old favorite of mine back into my life!
I enjoyed watching 2023 axis and allies gen con series. Great work and fun times. My favorite game to play 50th anniversary 1941. May the dice be with you. God bless. Thanks again
US's strategy in Turn 1 was the perfect foil to Japan's strategy in Turn 1... getting those transports & destroyer picked off in SZ62 really derailed them and allowed USSR to become relevant in the East, and made tiny India's unit output far more powerful relevant to what Japan had on the mainland. Still a lot of really clever outside the box thinking on the part of all, very entertaining!
Excellent series of videos and congrats on the win. Loved playing this game with my friends in the 90s. Pizza, sodas, and a board game that we usually didnt finish because one team got tired of losing, or we got distracted talking about the weekly drama at our high school.
Excellent series! It’s definitely re-engaged me in the A&A- past disappointment with lack of playing partners. Win win with Renegade games, thanks all!
Video has been great. Thanks for attempting to setup find a player, hope this works out. I see sacrificing a goat to dice gods helped at a critical point.
What a great series of videos. Haven't played A&A in 20 years and now I bought 1942 and have a game night coming up with a bunch of new players. Keep making A&A replays!
Loved it! Thanks for letting us all in on this tournament, and the action. My friend and I still play the old eighties orriginal second edition and we agreed to make one rule change. The Battleship one shot support attack on an amphibious assault if hits a enemy unit is removed from play. Thanks again for sharing this and all your help along the way!
Great series and great production. I love that you use stills and explain with graphics and words instead of the oh so common camera-rollercoaster-footage I'm used to seeing. I would love to see more A&A or other game content from you!
Thanks for the part two. Loved it. Very interesting game. You asked if we'd like more of THIS game or more games LIKE this, and I'd vote more games LIKE this, only because I have never seen this game played and I'd love to experience more new games, especially in the format you have here. You guys really did an amazing job though, so more A&A is still something to look forward to also.
I came to see what top level Axis and Allies play looked like, but I stayed for the post-game commentary. It's a great way to get a feel for longer games without having to invest the time to watch real-time. I would love to see more of that with other games.
Wow, what a final round in the end!!! Well done to all 4 players and especially Gary for putting this series together. I found it by accident a couple weeks ago and was anxious for the part 2 to come out, like a season finale.

Loved this series. Extremely well done and engaging the whole way through. Absolute nail biter of a finish and some very difficult decisions along the way.
I also enjoyed the review of all of the versions of the game with Shannon(?). I'd like to see how the tactics changed from the original, post Nova, to the tournament edition. What key territories changed? What unit made some attack a good bet that wasn't before? That kind of thing.
Have really enjoyed watching this series. Your presentation format is top notch! 👌 I'd love to see more battle reports, perhaps global? Or maybe War Room?
Congratulations! Nice victory. After I watched part 1, I didn't think you guys would win, due to the bad dice rolls but you did. It looks like good strategy does overcome bad luck. :)

Glad you enjoyed it! We are working on more now!
Thanks for watching!
I love this series! I'm watching every video in the series Thank you making this video! My mind is completely blown with these strategies! Please make more videos on axis and allies
Getting ready to do just that! Glad you enjoyed them. Stand by for more this fall!
Great series! This is the gold standard for play by play. More A&A please!
You are very kind! We are working on more of these for 1942 and other A&A games.
Thanks for watching!
Having played this game 30 years ago around a kitchen table with my friends this series has really brought back some memories. Good times, thank you.
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
This is slowly becoming my favorite game of all time and you guys are helping to foster it. Love From Carroll County
Glad you are enjoying it! We hope to see you around a table soon.
Thanks for watching!
What an incredible AA series!!! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Great job! I felt like I was right there with you on some of those rolls. What a heart-pounding ending! The editing was on point! Love the enlarged map pop-ups and wow oh wow you guys did it! You included a blow-by-blow on the final battle! The last round was like a bar fight with the lights turned off.
That is awesome! Mission accomplished!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! We hope you can join us tonight for the live stream! ua-cam.com/users/liveSjvrEKNr6_4?feature=share
More Axis and Allies for sure!
So, a vote for more A&A content. Got it! We are working on it now! Thanks for watching!

So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed all of these videos! Never even played the game, you made it easy to follow along.
That's great to hear! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video! As for future suggestions, I would say whatever makes you most excited. I really think that the precise content is second place to presenter enthusiasm.
I love that thought. Thanks for watching!
oh hell yeah! it was coo to see you guys bring that back brother i thought you guys was screwd at the end of the last episode
It was very, very tight match!
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this series, guys - really great videos, a ton of fun to watch
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for watching!
I’ve only just got into Axis and Allies and feel very spoiled to have stumbled upon this content. Fantastic videos Gary, both these tournament play videos and your how to play videos. You have a new sub, and fan! Would love to see more game play by plays like this, especially with Doug and your strategy insights, really explaining the why of each movement and turn. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed them! Welcome to the game! Thanks for watching!
That was fun to watch! You guys did a great job with the whole series. Nail biting content that I hope you make more of!
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
This series was amazing to watch. Very well laid out, easy to follow and understand. I'd love to see the same kind of breakdown of full length games!
I've only ever played one game of A&A before and that was years ago, but watching this series was so damn fun. Really hope you guys do more of these games/recaps. Also the production value was perfection
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent series watched it all. Your hours of work really show. This series inspired me to play 1942 online. Thank you bringing an old favorite of mine back into my life!
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
Great series... I hope we see more of these play by plays... they have become my oasis of relaxation after the working week
Congratulations on the win. Well desrved.
Thank you so much 😀
I enjoyed watching 2023 axis and allies gen con series. Great work and fun times. My favorite game to play 50th anniversary 1941. May the dice be with you. God bless. Thanks again
Glad you are enjoying the series! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent series of videos and congrats on the win. Loved playing this game with my friends in the 90s. Pizza, sodas, and a board game that we usually didnt finish because one team got tired of losing, or we got distracted talking about the weekly drama at our high school.
Great series. Bought the 1941 version to try with my Son by the end of turn 3.
Way to start them young! 🪖🪖🪖
Thanks for watching!
Awesome recaps! Made me want to replay that incredible game.
This is such a great series! Relaxing, meditative and interesting to watch, all at the same time.
Quite a dramatic finish! It's been fun to follow along from a game I remember fondly from my childhood.
Excellent series! It’s definitely re-engaged me in the A&A- past disappointment with lack of playing partners. Win win with Renegade games, thanks all!
This was fun to watch. I just ordered a board set for my son and I.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed watching the four matches. Great to see masters at play. Congratulations to the WC title🎉
Glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for watching!
Video has been great. Thanks for attempting to setup find a player, hope this works out. I see sacrificing a goat to dice gods helped at a critical point.
Thanks for the suggestion! 🐐
Amazing series! Very well done. Enjoyed everyone's commentary throughout with the in-depth analysis.
Congrats to the new World Champions! An exciting war!
Thank you very much!
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
Great series and great production. I love that you use stills and explain with graphics and words instead of the oh so common camera-rollercoaster-footage I'm used to seeing. I would love to see more A&A or other game content from you!
Thank you so much! We are working on it!
Doug and Gary are the earned World Champions of Axis & Allies. Well done and well played!
Thank you, good sir.
Thanks for watching!
More Axis & Allies!
Working on it! Thanks for watching!
Working on it! Thanks for watching!
Wow, harkens back to those old NFL flims, "Fantastic Finishes"! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ PS- Super, super, super video(s) Gary! I'm sure they were a lot of hard work! 🍻
So glad you enjoyed it! I was kind of channeling those old NFL films. Thanks for noticing! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
I came to see what top level Axis and Allies play looked like, but I stayed for the post-game commentary. It's a great way to get a feel for longer games without having to invest the time to watch real-time.
I would love to see more of that with other games.
Glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for watching!
Any particular games you'd like to see in this style?
Thanks so much for this series. I learned so much about how to play better.
I was introduced to the game with my older brother in 2000s. Love these vids!
Love to see you back at the tables! Thanks for watching!
Wow, what a final round in the end!!! Well done to all 4 players and especially Gary for putting this series together. I found it by accident a couple weeks ago and was anxious for the part 2 to come out, like a season finale.
Keep making content like this and your channel will grow, and yes, more A&A after action reports would be nice.
Roger that! A vote for more A&A content. Got it! We are working on it now!
Thanks for watching!
That was a fantastic series. I'm dusting off my Axis & Allies games to teach my son. Cheers!
Outstanding! Have fun!
Thanks for watching!
Outstanding! Great to hear it!
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Way to go in Persia!
Thank you! Perfect time to finally catch a break!
We will probably be talking about this tonight in the live stream. Hope you can join us! ua-cam.com/users/liveSjvrEKNr6_4?feature=share
Thank you for the videos!
Glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for watching!
I am so pleased that i came across this series. It has inspired me to get my A&As out again. Going forward i would like to see more content like this for A&As but maybe other formats of the game. 1940 global would be my preference but also maybe 1914 too
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
Loved this series. Extremely well done and engaging the whole way through. Absolute nail biter of a finish and some very difficult decisions along the way.
Thanks!
Thank you for watching and for the generous support!
What would you like to see next?
I also enjoyed the review of all of the versions of the game with Shannon(?). I'd like to see how the tactics changed from the original, post Nova, to the tournament edition. What key territories changed? What unit made some attack a good bet that wasn't before? That kind of thing.
Interesting idea. It might be part of some kind of evolution of the game video.
Thanks for sharing!
Have really enjoyed watching this series. Your presentation format is top notch! 👌 I'd love to see more battle reports, perhaps global? Or maybe War Room?
Been loving the series!! Super good! I think it would be awesome to see war room and/or meltdown 2025 in this kind of format.
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
This is the best Axis and Allies series I've seen, I loved everything about the format and look forward to more!
Congratuliation🎉I am also very Happy to learn Something about taktiks🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Thank you so much 😀
Congratulations! Nice victory. After I watched part 1, I didn't think you guys would win, due to the bad dice rolls but you did. It looks like good strategy does overcome bad luck. :)
That is certainly the hope! 😂😂😂
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
Please more championship level game play. It's so fun to watch these games play out. Especially if they are tournaments!
Loved the run through and commentary from everybody!
