    I think Vinnie has been the best drummer alive for over 40 years.

    A drummer whose natural talents have been combined with countless hours of personal study, practice and experience. As a drummer myself, Vinnie is the most skilled and creative drummer I've heard in my entire lifetime.

    Big band drumming; a discipline on its own. And Vinnie nailed it.

    I've been a drummer all my life almost and Vinnie only recently got on my radar. Been listening lately to him and I have to say he is one of the top drummers out there. Don't know if he is the GOAT but he is definitely a contender.

      Better late than never..😁 I started playing drums since 11 yrs old, discovered Vinnie when I was 14. I’m 46 now and I can say that Vinnie is the drummer I listen to the most. Though my first favorite drummers I could say are Stewart Copeland and Jeff Porcaro. Cheers!

    Rapid-fire drum style is initially exciting, but, melodic and syncopated is best.

    I love Vinnie's playing. He is one of my most favourite drummers today, an incredible talent and oh so very very capable in so many genres but this performance does nothing for me. To my ears especially the opening has nothing to do with jazz and nothing quite fits here. It's a good thing Buddy wasn't around to hear this.

    As much as I love Vinnie's playing, he's not a big band drummer. But I respect his attempt.

      I love Vinnie but after listening to this people need to watch the Buddy videos. Buddy played awesome solos but when comping the band he was so musical. Vinnie is basically soloing throughout which is a different approach but probably what was wanted for this performance. Impressive but different. Buddy was and will always be THE MAN in my eyes.

    This guy is good, but he's no Buddy Rich. The style is completely wrong. This guy plays more like a rock drummer. No finesse. He just pounds on the drums. Too much toms. Too many cymbals in his kit. And he doesn't have the speed of Buddy.

    • @mikenicora6701
      @mikenicora6701 3 місяці тому +6

      That’s the point. It’s Vinnie’s style playing Buddy. Oh and by the way Buddy Rich is no Vinnie!

      Curious comments. It is true that Buddy had a comfort level with these charts since he played them for years - compared with someone who has only played them a few times. And I've never been a fan of the sound of Vinnie's toms for this event. I don't know if it was him or some drum tech that ended up with that thuddy sound. Otherwise I think there's a lot to like with Vinnie's performance. To each his own, of course - but no finesse? Too many cymbals? Doesn't have the speed? Really...?

      @@DrJ-hx7wv I have ears to hear. That's all one needs. And I said that this Vinnie guy is good. I'm just saying that his style is unlike Buddy Rich. And I will also say that there's nothing wrong with that either. Individuality and uniqueness is what makes the world go around. It'd be a pretty boring place if everything was exactly the same.

    Outstanding. I highly recommend also looking up Buddy Rich's performance of this song on UA-cam if you haven't done so already. It was on the Johnny Carson show in 1979. Another great watch.
