    Hi Gabriel, thanks for the great videos. Koufonisi means "hollow island" i.e. full of holes and caves. The meltemi is the north wind that runs through the Aegean throughout the summer. The warm air masses from Africa (Sahara), rise high and travel north towards Siberia. There they meet the cold air masses and push them down, as a result of which they find an escape through the opening of the Hellespont (Turkey), towards the Aegean Sea. If there was no meltemi, the temperature in the Cyclades would be 37 degrees, with high humidity every day and life would become unbearable.

    Hi Gabriel! All these islands (little cyclades) used to be a naturist paradise. We used to hike nude from beach to beach (25 years ago..). There were no rooms to stay, we use to camp free in the nature. Nowadays Koufonissi is known as "Mykonos of the small Cyclades". Crowds, very expensive unfortunately. Hi Pano, I used to visit this island too for quite a few summers before ´97. Its nice to see this place, on the other side -- change, of course, even then . in the nineties it had already changed, and the people, who knew it from again 20 years before talked about it. I hope, they stop building close to the beaches. Pori was vast, Italida and the beach before - no houses. And yes, we were naked :)) most of the daytime. The nights, we had great time in the village. I absolutely love the videos from the Greek islands. They're beautiful. I would like to spend 2 months exploring a bunch of the different Greek islands, ideally towards the end of peak season as the tourism slows down a bit.
    How is wild/free camping on the islands? To my understanding it's not technically legal, but also not technically illegal which leaves it in a grey zone, but from what I've heard from other travelers, read online (and seen from youtube videos) is that it's more or less ok to do it outside of tourist areas. So basically if you find a secluded beach or area I should be fine to wild camp as long as I'm not in direct sight of anybody or any resorts/towns/popular beaches? Of course following the basics rule of carry out everything you carry in. What's been your experience in the past with camping in Greece?

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  Рік тому +8

      Everything you've said is spot on. If you want to stay for two months then September and October is the best time. By November it's extremely quiet, many restaurants and hotels on the islands are closed and the weather will be getting colder and wetter, but it's still doable after October. Not great for camping though. I spent ten day on Mykonos in 2018 in February and it was warm during the day but chilly in the evenings, almost nobody there. I camped wild on a couple of the islands in 2009 and also stayed in campgrounds a few times. As long as you aren't pitching your tent right on a popular beach then you'll probably be fine. Go for it.

      @@GabrielTravelerVideos I wonder about where some excellent locations might be - maybe next to where some perimeter fences might already be allowing and recreating the tree canopy that existed long before trees got harvested for smelting metals, etc. Maybe some degraded lands are being fenced off to exclude the herbivor pressures for a few years that's needed for trees to climb high enough. ☆ I'll have to look again at the last few islands you've taken us to Gabe, but there's a few views with shade trees near masonry walls where the goats had not yet climbed or harvested. ☆ I'm dreaming that some folks leave Alan Watson Featherstone in Caladonian forests ( maybe in the winter too - to arrive to Macedonia or Crete and maintain some fenced perimeters and seedling gardens there - maybe they trial the 'Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration' strategies of Australian Tony Rinaldo that bring on cool shaded grass areas & condense the dew water and bring life that can be then nurtured up to the height of some of the original paleolithic forest trees. I'm dreaming of meeting and knowing these people. Camping too, it seems. 🌲😎🌲 Hey, you're lucky enough to do some reading? That's an enviable station in life. Best wishes.

    I love your videos! Especially your videos from Greece, as this is my favourite destination in Europe. In this episode you mention that this island is more expensive compared to other small Islands. Would you be able to make a video where you compare prices maybe what is the most affordable islands to visit 😊

    Great video once again.
    Not that it minds, but I know that in reality the waters are much more intense than your video is showing. You either don't calibrate colors at all, or you edit the colors too flat. But this may be just your choice. I always try to not over edit as that does not justice to reality in some ways, but also certainly not under-edit where the raw footage is significantly less vibrant than reality, which is 100% the case with your videos. It's gorgeous ofcourse! But reality is vastly better than what the visuals of the video shows.
    That's why it's also important that your editing shouldnt be done on for example a monitor that has been set to over saturate. Because if you then edit on a oversaturated monitor then your video is undersaturated on 99% of all the other monitors and TV-screens. Im looking from a good calibrated monitor.

      I don't do any color corrections to the video footage, I just edit the clips and leave them as they are.

      @@GabrielTravelerVideos Ah I see. Well. If you do in Premiere, then maybe drop a "Lumetri Color" into your footage or on a adjustment layer which is layered on top of the entire video and saturate slightly. Even if it's a little. The rendering time for your video is hardly more. It just helps with getting closer to what you are experiencing. I think that your goal is to bring us along on your travels right? But also I guess to experience as closely as what you are experiencing. But I have said enough and don't want to come across as being negative. Rather I love your videos and love justice be done as much as possible :)

      @@Ptolemy336VV I use Videopad. Not sure if it has a color correction feature but probably it does. The thing is I'm posting videos every day. I can't imagine adjusting the colors on dozens of clips for each video that I edit every day. If I was posting one or two videos per week then I would have more time to devote to each video. But when I film during the day and then edit in the evening that limits how long I can spend on each video.

      Yes, that's possible, depends on the island and the beach. I don't think this island would be good for camping though, the beaches are too busy.
