Good tips! I struggled with neos at first, a few things that helped me: buy US bred shrimp from similar water, keep stable water parameters, hard water, use pre filter sponges, use layers of leaves, banana stems, wood for bio film, loads of java moss covering half the tank, rock piles for hiding, shrimp only tank or only kept with friendly nano fish like rice fish, start with wild type shrimp which are much hardier

Dragon stone works awesome for a shrimp colony when you have fish with them.

I keep hearing that breeding shrimp in cooler temps around the mid to lower 70s will cause the babies to turn out female much more often than male, and also that the shrimp seem to have and easier time of weathering adverse water conditions at lower temps.

Hmm, I have tanks without heaters and tanks with heaters. The difference is night and day. The ones with heaters have a TON of more shrimp. They simply reproduce much more quickly...but will you get more females? Or are they more hardy? I haven't seen a difference so if there is then it can't be too significant.

Great advice my guy🤙🏽. Couple years ago I started with ghost shrimp thinking since they were more affordable I would be able to breed them easy. They all died and died fast. Found out later they were brackish type ghost shrimp. moral of the story is don’t get discouraged by death 🤣🤙🏽

Yeahhh freaking petsmart pulls that crap; vulgaris, I think the species is. Pretty dirty to sell people a brackish animal for a freshwater tank just because they're cheaper and can survive just long enough at the store to be sold.

I had shrimp gradually die on me 1 by 1. Turns out my tank pH was 8.5 when I thought it was 7.8. Put in API pH down into it over a week to lower the pH to 7.2. Haven't had any random deaths since and it's been a few weeks.

A lot of good info here, i hope to breed shrimp one day so i may have to come back to this video in the future. The bonus is VERY important, do parent shrimp eat their babies?

No shrimp won't eat their babies

I have rosy tetras, zebra danios and one swordtail. The swordtail is the one I’m worried about. Will it eat my shrimp? I’m just getting ready to start getting shrimp.

Swordtail will probably much on the baby shrimplets, yes

I got some new fish and 4 shrimp today. Did the drip acclimation. Will see how they do.
The crushed corral I got today has marine bacteria in it. Will it survive in fresh water or should I rinse the coral before putting it in?
