I want to thank Ilan Srulovicz for this great time, respect and dedication he has for his work, and he showed me. He is a real scientist who does real research, and gives each martial art a place to be known, cause some interest or be criticised on a very high and intelligent level. Keep doing what you do! He is a legit expert and practicioner in fighting and for martial arts. He has a quick and deep understanding of movements, structure, force and technique. I´m looking forward to the next meetings we´re gonna have.

    • @ZephirumUpload

I'd like to go on a more positive note and say that what we're seeing is the exact result of Wing Chun getting the respect it deserves, instead of saying there's weak and poorly trained students, this is often just the result of a lack of attention to a way of thinking: less people less chance some geniuses step up.
I am very happy with videos like this, and I see more and more martial artists coming around and at the very least adapting WC to their own systems. My own lineage is closely following Leung Tin too and I recognize and practise most of the principles Sifu does here, I'm definitely sharing this with my classmates.

To those here saying that Wing Chun automatically fails against grappling, I wouldn't be so sure. Back when I trained in WC there was an intermediate student who often went up against a friend who did BJJ. The BJJ guy couldn't take him down. Even though the WC guy was just average, he had extremely good defense just like this GM. Another thing this fellow student demonstrated to me is that this art offers a way of self defense where you don't necessarily have to hit the other person. This guy's chi sao was so effective that he could just put his straight arm against my chest and I couldn't get past it; he'd just roll to putting his other hand against my chest, keeping me away without me being able to hit him, or take him down, and he didn't have to hit me. That's a very useful benefit of WC.

I just found an amzaing wing chun channel. sao num wing chun- I do not recognize this lineage, but the skill of the older instructor and even his student are way off the chart. Also this lineage incorporates tons of joint locks, throws, close quarter stamping kicks, sweeps, close range use of knees, all types of punches including hook punches, punches to the groin, along with the normal stuff you see in wing chun, plus he emphasizes using the chi sao training as a way of experimenting and becoming creative. I am totally blown away by these buys, and now that you hae eperienced first hand a high level wing chun fighter, you will appreciate how practical this would be for self defense.

Good job.. this is how ALL traditional systems should be viewed and trained. Make contact, jam or deflect, hit and posture change. Inside Fighting guy calls out what needs to be called out but you can tell he is passionate about traditional arts and is actually making them better by pointing out their weaknesses for current and future practitioners. You don't need to be able to beat a Thai Fighter in the street, you need to be able to neutralize aggression and wild attacks. No matter your style, you need to train against pressure.

thanks for that. I think traditional styles have tons of value and in many wars offer more longevity than combat sports. There is only so much wear and tear my body can take and I don't ever want to stop training.

    Solid concepts.
I'm a very long time Wing Tsun, Bajiquan and Jiu-jitsu practicioner.
Those movements we begin in Chi Sao, become the gentle sensitivity we use to engage later in touch: to feel through and strike with elbows, shoulders, needs and toes. In each system there is a direct way of force and initiation into movement within the combat space. We use this to effectively strike, re-engage, touch and hold, trap-set and move with what we're give in a linear principal; meaning once we are giving something we move forward within the space to create new movement; new engagement, new concepts, new targets, new distance, new opportunity.
Everything this guy is saying checks out one a 123 basis, but most importantly, he's establishing ideas and concepts within the movements.
This is what Wing Chun is supposed to be in combat, but I Bajiquan, it's almost the same. In BJJ it's different but only that you're establishing with many more smaller battles of grip and technical understanding within your skillset.
To combine these with Muay Thai would be fantastic.

Great video. I personally think it would be fascinating to get a similarly aware teacher on to demonstrate martial tai chi. Almost everybody sees it as a non-martial practice, or as a very weak martial art. I'm no master, but it seems to me like there's a lot of potential. Competition isn't really in the tai chi culture, so it's probably really hard to find a master who applies it seriously to fighting. Maybe that's part of the reason it's so little recognized, you see wing chun discussions like this one but I've never seen similar for taichi.

100% agree re real physical strength in WC
It’s a southern Chinese boxing style and when I came up in the 80’s the fighters of the system we’re all VERY strong .
Respectfully could you post a free sparring video as I’d like to see this working with a competent kick boxer / boxer .
I transitioned into kick boxing many years ago after attending a challenge match as seeing the results
Imho in WC the lack of head movement and limited mobility along worth not understanding boxing punches and angles make it extremely vulnerable.
I still love the style but based on all video footage it’s very very very rarely effective in open single combat ( imagine for a moment if that were true of boxing / Muay Thai/ bjj / wrestling/ judo etc ? )

Training the mind is first, sticking allows you to feel the opponent then you can find the holes in the armour. This is essential in all martial arts.

I studied WC many years ago, under SiFu Dave Meadows who learned under Sigung Duncan Leung , and I saw first hand how effective WC is, I am finally glad to see someone out there that showed what real WC is, I am tired of all the bad publicity it has been getting. Finally someone who explained what the chisow is really for, to build up sensitivity to be able to predict what your opponent moves are going to be.

Ive never experienced the Leung Ting lineage before as a wing chun guy...so his method of using tan da on the on-time timing against the hook was unique to me. Ive seen it before but its not my personal go to. Obviously if this method is his most comfortable preference then i dont see why not.

I was very glad to see this video. it is really cool to see you guys being so respectful of one another. how ever I felt like that you would be able to get him to the ground if you pushed him a little harder. also the the lack of footwork in wing Chun is very limiting. Wing Chun relies on full commitment of the attacker. the system is vulnerable for feints and probing jabs and good footwork . I truly believe that it has its place and the hand fighting aspect is great but most of the training of a well rounded martial artist should consist of grappling and and other striking arts than Wing Chun. However I believe that a good striker who uses the long guard would benefit a lot from wing Chun . apologies for my English Greeting from Germany:)

I had earned my blue belt in Brazillian Jujitsu, took Indonesian's Silat for 12 years, Kali for 8 years, Bruneian's Silat in 3years and recently i took up Sanda for almost 6 months. I had encountered spar with a lot Wing Chun guys, ow boy their Wing Chun were throw out of the window by my Silat's sweeps and take down and some Wing Chun guys were ended up by my choke hold and put them to sleep within 3 seconds. Until I encountered the real Wing Chun guy. I met him in the park and yea we became friends. I noticed he's doing that gibberish chi sau alone. When i asked him what he is doing and he said to me that he practice Wing Chun but seems this weirdo guy didn't wanna spar with me. And i felt kinda annoying then i gave him a rear naked choked and take him to the ground. I would say it was not my lucky day lol. I mean i was expected a tap out from him or put him to sleep because it was more than 3 seconds count and he able to sneak in his left hand to hold my right arm wrist at the same time follow up with his right arm to hold my right arm joint between my forearm and that's why nothing happened to him then his chin pinned to my middle forearm and that kinda hurt and i kept playing my other ground game and i was not going to easy on him but i thought i was ahead of him then some how i don't know how he did it subsequently he hold my right knee and my inner thigh got pinned by his elbow and that was what happened caused me scream like a bitch. That was extremely hurt and this time his turn to roll me over and my face got pinned by his sharp knuckle. Whether that was my bad day or what not this is my testify 'I was wrong about Wing Chun' of my version. Well we are good, we still buddy now. The moral of the story is 'No matter how many martial arts style we have learn, just cease off the ego and learn from others no matter what'. Me take up Wing Chun? May be later because i still need to explore more with my stuff.
