I tell you man, I f**ng can't wait. We will visit the Miniatur Wunderland in 7 weeks from now, 2 days are planned just for that. This is gonna be awesome!
Hello from Hamburg Germany 🙋🏼♀️😊... I must say sorry... Because, two Days would never ever be enough for watch all the cool Details and Actions🙈😂😁 have a good Time in the best German City ever☺️🤩👍🏼
"Gerrits Diary" is a mini series from the Wunderland itself how they build and engeneer things. The very first episode begins with the Airport 14 years ago.... ua-cam.com/video/bUqMbtMcECE/v-deo.html Episode 1-27 is from the starts to the opening of the Airport.
Hi d, you may know, there will be a movie out at March 7th in German movie theaters. I hope they put it into YT later on. The story is about the brothers Frederik and Gerrit Braun. In the movie they will also explore their Miniature Land as little figures. I guess, for you, it might be a "must see" hopefully there is a version in English coming out too. Keep being interested and having fun. Elmar from Germany (EfG)
On their official channel @MiniaturWunderlandOfficial, they document basically every step since the beginning some twenty years ago. The videos are mostly in German, but there are English subtitles for most of them. Some video suggestions: During Covid, they rebuilt the Start/Landing mechanism: ua-cam.com/video/zo4TFYG5IIA/v-deo.html A video from when they originally built the airport: ua-cam.com/video/kN_qzNrK6co/v-deo.html And something else that shows how great they are: each January, they offer free entry for anybody who cannot afford a visit to the Wunderland: ua-cam.com/video/3XaLVpdW7DQ/v-deo.html
13:20 Months? If I remember correctly, it was 6 years to build the airport. From the idea to the development of the systems, the programming of the software to the construction, the decorations to the opening. The airport is modeled on Hamburg Airport.
You have to watch the lights inside the runways. They are showing the way, the plane has to go, with green lights, and stop areas with red lights. Absolute amazing. There are also some Videos from behind the scenes, if you are interrested Sorry for my bad english and greetings from germany
I've been to Minitaure Wunderland, it's incredible to see in person. But it's VERY crowded and you have to push and shove through a sea of people just to see anything. Aside from that, it's 100% worth it to see it in person.
D, there are now around 400 employees at the MiWuLa and everybody from the lowest of ranks to the highest can come, and does so, to Gerrit or Frederik and share a new idea. Gerrit and Frederik HATE to be called boss. They see all their employees as family. As they said, "If you trie out and it does not work. At least we had tried it." Over time, many of their "crazy" ideas were transformed into reality. EfG
The real Airport in Hamburg gave them tons of info and plans of the buildings. The Fire brigade in their Quarter (SPEICHERSTADT) works closely with the MiWuLa. Now the Fire Fighters have to by a real Electric Fire Truck.😁🤣😇
Wellcome to the Miniatur Wunderland fan club. just keep in mind. Knuffingen Airport is only a tiny fraction of the whole thing. Another fact about the runway: The slit of the rods who raise the plains is in reality closed by spring loaded segments and is opened by the rods when they are moving,
The development of the airport took them several years. Currently they are trying to build the formula one racing track of Monaco, but the cars should move freely and not on defined tracks. The problem was that no manufacturer was able to fabricate the circuit boards they needed, so they had to find a supplier that was willing to develop the needed technology with them! They are currently testing and it works 98% of the time - but that is not good enough for them for the daily exhibition!
There is a mechanism below the runway that locates the plane, once it has reached the takeoff position. Then the two bars hook up into the plane from below. You need two bars to be able to properly imitate the incline upon takeoff or landing. The hardest part for them was developing a snap/door system, that closes the slit on the runway before and behind the plane, but opens up when the plane passes without rattling or having the plane wobble too much. Just crazy!
When I visited the Wunderland, I once took the time to watch one and the same airplane from landing to starting again - it took about three quarters of an hour. That means they have to have enough starting and landing planes to fill that time gap.
35:28 These are so-called winglets that have been fitted to newer passenger aircraft models in the last decades. The idea behind the winglet is to reduce the strength of the tip vortex and therefore cause the flow across the wing to be more two-dimensional. The intended effect is to reduce an aircraft's drag and improve lift without greatly increasing the wingspan and in turn save on fuel. In some cases these winglets also improve the overall handling of an aircraft in flight and lessen the effect of wake vortices for following aircraft.
The Miniatur Wunderland is also partly interactive. you can trigger events at the push of a button. There are also lots of Easter Eggs to find (including secret ones). Example: At the push of a button, a parking space moves up and reveals a secret vehicle (e.g. the Batmobile) underneath. After a short time, the parking lot returns to its original position. If you press the button again, the parking lot goes up again, but this time even higher, revealing the Batmobile and another familiar vehicle underneath. This works several times and shows more and more well-known, hidden vehicles. So feel free to test things several times (press buttons). You can also spot characters from movies in some scenarios. There are Ewoks from Star Wars in a forest. Somewhere you'll find Iron Man with his chest glowing. But also other fun things. Press a button and a carnivorous plant extends its head and attempts to eat a gardener. Looks very funny. Two days are not enough to really see everything. But it's definitely worth it! Have fun everyone who goes to see Wonderland.
I can understand your fascination. I was in Hamburg for a sightseeing weekend but I spent a whole day in Wunderland..lol. I haven't seen everything yet; At some point it was too much and I had to leave.
03:07 This display is also a normal large monitor near the airport (approx. 55 "?). Here you can see which planes arrive and take off when. Especially since there are also a few special ones like the Milenium falcon or the bumblebee. So you can wait for them.
Engineers discovered a while back. that those upturned wings ensured more stability to the plane and the wings itself. The older planes do not have that. You know vibrations of the material is NOT secure.
Actually, the winglets have little to do with wing stability. They minimize wake turbulence at the tip of the wing, hence reducing drag. It makes the plane use less fuel.
Gerrit used to call his wife by her nickname „Knuff“. She complained that he was wasting too much time on the Wonderland. He answered that he can’t help. But as a little comfort they created the fictional town of Knuffingen, including Knuffingen airport.
The whole Mechanics for moving the planes is in parts hidden beneath the runways etc. you have to look very close to see the Gaps for it. On the Runway itself its partially visible in the middle of the Runway.
@Reactions by D you know ther is a 1 hour UA-cam video from the Miniatue Wunderland were the had a minicamera put on a train and is running the througth the Wunderland. And the best part it is 360 dergee, so you can look around with the computer mouse.
The planes are made by the Miniatur Wunderland. Don't know about the new, 3D-printed ones, but the old ones cost 400 to 1000 euros without the technical parts installed. A complete plane costs between 3200 and more than 10000 euros. Sometimes even the same paint is used as for the real aircraft.

At 27:30 as far as i know not every plane needs to have all Engines running for just taxiing. And remember, why does the Plane not start its enginge while the passengers are boarding, especially on an outbound position? ^^
The planes are powered by batteries. That‘s why the have to take off and „fly back“ to a loading station behind the scenes. The planes follow magnetic lines hidden in the tarmac (just like the cars).
The Planes move in their own Power, no external feeding. At least on the Runfeeld. On the Runway the are moved by an Pulleysystem under the Tabel. The "Box" you have seen is an little Magnet, which follows an magnetic track (in the Table). For the Sound... they uses an Sound-Positioning System, similar to this in Movie-Theaters.
I love flying machines, airplanes and rockets both. Thanks for uploading this, I could watch this amazing mini-airport for days straight! The engineering and computer systems behind this are nothing short of mind blowing. Unreal! Aeroflot is the main russian airline. Eurowings, Condor and Germanwings are german domestic flights companies.
The winglets or sharklets reduce air drag at low speeds and more stability for yaw and more agility with roll. Disadvantage is more air drag at high speeds. I guess the companies will decide on how much the plan is flying high and low speeds to decide if they use a plane with or without winglets for a flight route.
There is the Hamburg concert hall that opens up, and you can see the concert inside. There's an earthquake in the Italian part, and you can see 2 people shagging inside the house... Even a lover who escapes naked while the husband of his gf comes home early, and the porn film set... Lots of little details like this, a crime scene with a dead body in the water and the CSI people around it, etc. They keep adding new stuff as well. The airport took 6 years to develop and create, it opened in 2011.
I was there and saw the Millenium Falcon. He was standing in the park area and when his departure was shown on the board (to Tatooin), he went to the runway and took off. So not just a flyby like the bee. The departure/arrival board really works and the times match the departures/arrivals of the planes. very impressive.
One should not forget that every aircraft type has a different take-off and landing angle, controlled by a computer. Gerrit worked on this with the utmost precision until it was suitable for each aircraft and looked good. I don't want to know how often it had to be reprogrammed because take-off and landing didn't work out the way the perfectionist had imagined. 😂
Soon there will be a movie , I think it's in German, but probably also with English subtitles about the miniature land. The name is WUNDERLAND and will be in cinemas here in Germany from March 7th
just having reached time index 12:32 of this video (wich was new to me) I need to give greatest respect to the 2 brothers that invented and constructed all this. They must have spent millions and the staff keeping it all working I think it's more than 100 people. Lights, sound effects, electric & magnetic parts / lines / hoses, . . . Imagine to get or built all the planes appearing here in the exactly same size 1:87 ! Somewhere also will be shown Han Solo's Millennium Falcon taking off (in a differnt video). All that must fit perfectly together and they must have been working on it for DECADES ! T.O.P. ! ! ! 👍🥰👍
Hi D, at 31:15 the little box in front of the airplane wheel. It is a magnet, when the plane rolls it follows a metall wire in the road. By the length of the lever it is able to turn the front wheel of the plane. The plane has its own motor and is controlled by the computer system. Basically the same system is at work at the running cars, thou the lever there is so smal that it mostly disappeares under the front of the car. It is an evolution of a system of company called "Faller", the "Faller Car-System". Even there were already magnetic contacts in the road which could stop a car (e.g. at a traffic light or a railway crossing) and then release it again as well as track switches for the car. Btw different planes are lead by different trail switches to turn at a different radius.
No. All vehicles (cars or planes) move by themself, with the only obvious exception of flying planes. Vehicles have an electric motor and a battery with them. They constantly check their batteries and if they run low, the vehicle autonomously drives to a charging station, where it gets charged. There are wires in the streets or the tarmac. With the planes it is quite visible, there is a lever on the nose wheel, which has a small magnet at the end. The magnet follows the wire and directs the vehicle in this way. There are also switches (turnouts) in the streets but I have forgotten how this works. Same goes with the communication with the central computer who orchestrates and monitors all the action - I forgot, but I think it somehow works with the underground wires too.
There are model kits for many cars, planes, houses, but sometimes they have to make them up themselves. I can't get it, the adverts on the little screens are changing.
35:40 wingends bent up: real airplanes have them too for the last decade or so. The air over and under the wings move with different speed. At the end of a straight wing the airflows mix and pull straight flowing air off the end. Bending the wings up stops that pulling off of airstream, so the wings are more effective and have less turbolences.
Knuffingen is based on Hamburg-Airport, the shape of the multi-storey parking building tells you so, but why is the name changed? Hamburg-Harbour and the Hamburg Opera House are parts of Miniature Wonderland under their real names. Well, there is this German colloquial expression "knuffig" ( do not miss to pronounce the "k", please) and that means cuddly or cute.
Some more modern planes have „wingtips“. They are supposed to reduce turbulences at the wingtip that cause drag and cost fuel. It‘s the same principle, why feathers of flying eagles bend upwards at the tip of their wings to reduce turbulences caused by the wingtips.
the most of the fix modells can be bougt i ussed to sell those its all a model train scale there so youu get the stuff but the buildings the setup and the controll is a hell of a achivement
Your audio reduction did not work. It was still too loud unfortunately. I could barely hear you. Could you try puling the UA-cam volume knob to the left instead next time? Because if you only turn down your own headphones, then for us the volume stays the same. But if you do it with the volume knob of UA-cam, it's for you and for us at the same time.

I'm halfway through and there is one little detail they got wrong that I didn't even realise when I was there: The position lights on the planes are the wrong color. The left wingtip should have a red and the right wingtip a green light. But that is complaining on a very, very high level. It is impressive what these folks are doing. I would love to work there, but with my visual impairment I would be pretty useless with those small models. ;-)
What they also did wrong is the way the planes are pushed from the parking positions. The push truck will position the plane so it does not have to make a nearly 180°+ turn on its own engines. That costs too much fuel and the turning radius would cause a lot of thrust to be needed. That in turn would throw some things behind the plane across the airfield.
It took them 6 years to build the airport. And the idea of unloading luggage... please don't say such thoughts... Because now they will really try to make this happen - even if it will take another 6 years...😉
German musician Samy Deluxe has filmed an entire music video in Miniatur Wunderland, with himself appearing as a character in the wonderland. It's not necessarily my favorite music, but hey, it's Miniatur Wunderland! 😂 ua-cam.com/video/8IYTxTeMzA0/v-deo.htmlsi=UhfOud5AZWKm3QhI

just having reached time index 12:32 of this video (wich was new to me) I need to give greatest respect
to the 2 brothers that invented and constructed all this.
Formular 1, Monaco Racetrack is new. They still fighting with errors.
I wonder if there’s a magnetic set under what you see to make things move?
The Airport is only a part of the Miniatur Wunderland. I visit it 3 Days ago. You will love it.
Take a look on the Formula 1 Track in Monaco - Still in Progress but VERY nice! 😉
There are model kits for many cars, planes, houses, but sometimes they have to make them up themselves.
I can't get it, the adverts on the little screens are changing.
of course LOL!
If the scale for the cars are 1:87 then for the planes must be a little more like 1:100 at least !!
The Concordwas a french / english plane Which can reCach more then Mach2. It does 2400km/h
there are documentrys about the maintanance of the wonderland
the most of the fix modells can be bougt i ussed to sell those its all a model train scale there so youu get the stuff but the buildings the setup and the controll is a hell of a achivement

You missed the Millinium Falcon!
I Love your React to this amazing Place in Hamburg. You have visit it?
Making this airport took six years and about 3.5 to 4 million euros. Half of the money was used for the runway.

React to love runs out forestella please ❤
Aeroflot is a russian airline.

Another, may intresting modellrailroad design might be the Hans-Peter Porsche (a son of the real Porsche!) Modellrailroad. He's a toycollector and presents his collection in newly built privat museum TraumWerk. Here on YT exists an over 1 hour cabview ride through his alpine modell rr design: ua-cam.com/video/IiVs-91LYJg/v-deo.htmlsi=HlbQH6Q-yFnPIsa3
Its not wunderland but also breathtaking...

PS. This song is great!
If you want the "miniature wonderland" in your house, then it has to be very, very big!!
It is the largest model railway in the world and more than four hundred technicians/model makers work there.
There are several million visitors there every year...

All modern planes have fins at their wingtips because of the cost efficiency regarding fuel usage. Same goes für just one engine spinning. They use only as much engines as necessary while taxiing to save precious fuel. Come down to company policy. 🥸
