Top tip. I have a Squire Tele, similar condition. Was looking for something like this. Great time saver. Thanks heaps, for posting mate! Much appreciated. 👍
Thank you. This worked great. My Squire Telecaster's action was a mile high and now with a minor loosening turn of the truss rod and this adjustment, the guitar is like a different instrument. I love simple solutions. :-)
This is a great little set up hack! I have a telecaster I bought used that needs a set up and I will be trying this. I just want to note you should first check that the frets are level and neck relief is set
There's something else you can do to lower the action, cut the nut a little better, stack one piece of masking tape over another, butt up against the nut,do another stack butt up against the first fret, until you get just one piece above the level of the fret, you will feel the ridge of the masking tape with a finger nail once you get it level with the fret and this will be the amount of tape to stack up against the nut,it's usually around 14 pieces of tape, take a small file or coping saw blade and cut the nut slots just down till you start to cut into the tape, remember to cut in a downwards angle towards the headstock, your building a ramp,so the string only sits on the back of the nut slot, the tape will follow the radius of the fretboard, and this will give you the lowest action, you could ever get,you can add an extra piece of tape on your stack just to be safe,if you go to low the string will buzz on the first fret, so be careful.
Cool credit card action hack. The way that works best for me is dropping the saddle very low so that the string is virtually sitting on top the frets then I gradually raise the saddle until every note played on that string stops buzzing.
If you know how. Lowering the strings without causing buzzing on the frets. Credit card still to high, lower again half distance till about 1/16 inch off fret. Push string down at 12th fret, Lower till it makes buzzing noise on fret 15 to 22. Then raise 1/2 turn at a time(both screws 1/2 turn on one string, always turn them the same amount) and recheck so no buzzing. Then pluck string and press at each fret on the string all the way down all frets to make sure it sounds right(no buzzing). Retune. Pluck open string and make sure your in tune, press down at 12th fret and check to see that its the same note and in tune(its just an octave higher). Thats your intonation, if its in tune for open string and when pressing 12th fret your good to go. Adjusting intonation is a different procedure and can be the strings and not the bridge adjustment. When checking fret to string clearance also push string at 15th fret and hold, then push string down over pickup and look at clearance between string and last fret, a credit card gap is about right for me. Try to match the gap on all strings. should be a small gap so string doesnt touch the fret when plucked hard. done.
My advice would be to just wait a little longer and save up for a Mexican Fender instead. They're only a little more money, but they are a LOT better. Trust me. You will happier in the long run.
A problem not addressed here (and in a lot of videos) is adjusting string action to a specified measurement then still having fret buzz afterwards. If your frets aren't level then you're wasting your time.
@@gibfen1235 that defeats the entire purpose of setting your action to a desired level. Frets have to be leveled before anything. What good is having the A string higher than the others?
Shitty Guitar ? First , is the Neck Straight . Truss Rod tickling . Second , is the Nut cut properly . That is finicky as it gets . Frets bad ? Dress them up using a Brillo Pad on a Sponge Block , it takes time , but WORKS good . NOW you may want to look at the Action height . And then lastly adjust the intonation .
Assuming frets are basically okay this WORKS fine with neck radius. But you are right in that neck relief first; nut second; string height third; intonation last.
The action of a guitar is a personal feeling, not a standard value. My fingers must decide it. I got many guitars and the action is different, depending on the tuning i use and which style i play on the single weapon...
The best camera work ive ever seen.
Excuse me while i go throw up from nausea and take some vertigo meds
This is cheaper than the other credit card trick. You need the PIN number and a Luthier unfortunately.
Haha good one. I was laughing hard

First of all, NOBODY "cuts my nuts" and this whole butt up against the nut, another stack butt stuff. What are you? Some kind of sicko?
No use setting low action if your truss rod isn't adjusted correctly
How do you know if your truss rod is adjusted correctly?.
Did you ever figure it out @@Terencetembre1001.

Wait, wait. Do what now?
That's Frudua's technique if I am not mistaken
Nice to see a tutorial without a ten minute dissertation on "in case you missed the first video"
Why wouldn't you have it all on one? Thanks 👍
set saddle radius to match neck, important part of any setup.
This does that.
What about neck relief, shouldn't you check/set that first?
Before and after you do the adjustments.

Yes even frets is a must but first use this method. I"A" string buzzes simply use your wrench and add 1/2 turin on every string.Stop once none buzz.

On a squire, first replace the bridge with a quality fender bridge and don’t forget to get the Allen wrench that goes with it for saddle adjustment.
May also need to lower the nut grooves
Quick tip. If you don't have a capo, get a pencil or pen, use rubber bands to lock the pencil/pen at your 1st fret.
that's the frudua trick!!!
👍
All of this stuff is tricky. High action never hurt anyone, unless your strings are way too heavy ( or thick).
Why not raise the action?
1. Capo the "first thing " is known as the 1st fret. 2. "To adjust your thing" is called your action....lol.
I'm all over adjusting my thing.
My thing is fully adjusted thank you very much…and my action is just fine too! 🤣

I’d change the bridge too
You should definitely set the neck relief first. After that, set your action.
But how much should i back up again to stop fret buzz
Till it stops. Every guitar is different
This does not allow for neck radius , also you ignore neck relief !
