Also pls abeg let’s not shade LA girl concealer , some of us still love that concealer oooo!!!! It’s crazy because there is quality and there is also artistry . I always believe if you can do makeup, it doesn’t matter if it’s just drug store , it willl come out nice

This was my favourite episode! I do feel like the justifications for the price of wedding makeup weren’t really strong. I think vendors e.g. MUAs and hairstylists should just be honest at the fact that the wedding industry is lucrative and kudos to them for choosing that industry. The bride being busy on her wedding day could equally be applicable to a celebrant on their birthday. Different occasions, both require long lasting, high quality makeup but both potentially have very different prices. I think it’s okay to be honest and say that no bride wants mediocre makeup/hair for their wedding so they will pay that premium and this is what is capitalised off of. And there’s no problem with that because people (myself included) will pay. And this is also your means of living x

What you guys don’t seem to understand is that we are put in conditions we are not comfortable with but nevertheless we are expected to deliver. Doing makeup in a room full of people gives us anxiety, being expected to touch up a bride in the middle of the dance floor in-front of all their wedding guests is nerve racking but we are expected to do this regardless of if we are shy or nervous. Why do you think when you go to hairdressers they will tell you to come alone no plus one allowed, it is because they are not comfortable being watched as they work. Change of looks are often done with limited time which adds to the pressures of the day. Don’t forget when you get a bride the cries non stop girl you know touching up makeup after one has cried is a myth. Consumers undervalue what we go through because you don’t see it from the lens of a creator. The real energy should be put on wedding venues and why the price is extortionate on weekends not the muas and hairdressers who’s fees out of the whole wedding tends to be the cheapest. But your opinion is valid x

Wedding makeup is expensive but you’re expected to stay and do touchups. A consultation is also supposed to be included. These greedy makeup artists today want to do the bare minimum and cannot even find a proper justification for the ridiculous prices.

Looking presentable as a vendor is so important, especially as videographers captures the getting ready stage and the vendors are in the images and stuff.

This was very interesting ! I do feel like we have to understand that ALOT of work goes into doing bridal makeup , it’s a huge responsibility more than any glam makeup service hence the price being expensive , wedding in 2023 is not cheap ! I would always recommend that a bride should definitely fit what they can afford according to the budget . No need to cheat for a premium service because when you get caught , it’s NEVER ends well.

Also on the makeup price difference question. Doing a “basic” look for a bride and the makeup doesn’t last the whole day or isn’t giving the “bridal glow”. It ends up looking bad on the MUA and puts off potential customers from booking her, as the assumption is that’s how her bridal look is.

Yessss, I really liked the little deep segment in the end (even tho it’s not a marriage podcast). I’m married and totally agree- there’s those ghetto moments. Marriage is like a mirror to flaws too very humbling! People need to have these conversations from time to time to express the realities! 💗

Thank you ladies SO MUCH for this discussion! It was really enjoyable and Edith provided some much needed insight from the MUA perspective. Especially regarding the impression of her work - no one wants the quality of their work questioned because someone tricked you/cut corners to save a buck. You’re trying to run a business too.
However I have to say that the jury’s still out for me though as with some ppl (like EW) her work, experience and quality speaks for itself & why she can charge the price that matches her service(s). My bug bear is the lack of clarity/visibility when it comes to price for some vendors *not* just the glam team). Seriously, it can’t just be “stress” that’s making you add a premium.
Most jobs require qualifications of some sort. I can’t just rock up to an interview because I like the salary without backing up the reason why I’m worth that except some pics of when I slayed the “Corp Baddie” aesthetic. As a planning bride, I have to say it’s galling the amount of opportunistic vendors that are ripping us off too just cos they can & cos you’re paying up front, you’ll never know until it’s too late.
For me, it’s not the price that’s the issue, but the fact that I can’t distinguish whether I’m getting the best services for that price. I’m always happy to pay what something is worth but I don’t like to compromise on quality. My expectations will be as high as your price.

Loved this episode and conversation. I loved the dynamic and loved the relatable questions Edith asked. It’s important to have wider conversations about weddings and marriage and not just about vendors. It’s a whole package that first starts with the couple so to have conversations around relationships is important.

I don’t agree with Edith’s reason for charging a high price. The truth is weddings carry a premium and all vendors do it. I do agree that cut your cloth accordingly as her work is worth the premium she charges.

She's a brand so her charges would be higher.

I think the problem with many of the Uk people who are always complaining about vendor prices and vendor quality, is that they want a service that celebrities use but they want it at regular prices. To have a vendor come to your wedding early in the morning, and run after you all day is a LUXURY service. You can’t expect that you will pay the same money for KFC, as you would pay for a private chef. Yes, both are selling food.. but the private chef brings a luxury element to the table to the whole thing

  • @fe7260

I think what now makes sense is that this is their business and they have their terms and conditions and protocols for wedding bookings. It seems quite clear they charge more simply because THEY CAN!! And they don't want to be cheated of the opportunity to charge more.
I do think and she doesn't mention this, that as a brand, her work will be tagged on social media. And if you lied and went for a lesser service because it was cheaper and it doesn't photograph well across the duration of your event, if you then tag her what then does she say...

I feel like everyone should be able to feel beautiful on their special day without the heavy price tag. Obviously go to a Mua that is in your tax bracket but mostly all the good experienced ones are charging extortionate prices my friend is getting married and I couldn’t believe the prices they quoted her

  • @bolu101
    @bolu101 11 місяців тому +3

I understand why mua's hate people lying about their sessions. If the bride's makeup doesn't last long it would reflect poorly on the mua cos no one will know that she wasn't charged bridal fee. Also, imagine if the mua had to turn down a bridal booking cos you booked her 😖

I think the confusion with make up is that ..if you apply lipstick for birthday and lipstick for wedding it's still the same result....if you apply eye shadow for birthday and eye shadow for wedding...its still the same result....we are in a day and age where people are waking up and everything is expensive so you start questioning why and whether its worth it....either way if you're established then FINE....but I think its the newbies that are ruining everything from new hairstylist and their dumb terms and conditions lol

Once your called a makeup artist ,you should be able to deliver ,even though you are presented someone else's work you can work with it and if the bride prefers to use different makeup brand let the bride buy it and you use it but cut the price a little if you can't buy the product, i saw a youtuber/influencer UK bride last year the make-up artists is popular she put so much concealer under her eyes, the makeup looked so wrong , no one was saying nothing,me I will not pay if i see that you as a makeup artist will have to fix it ,no way am I looking like a clown on my wedding day.no way

what customers want to hear is: Wedding make up is expensive because "It's a luxury experience, one wedding, one set of photos, looking your best. We use quality products thats guaranteed to last the whole day. We provide you with extra lipstick/lipgloss and will be available throughout the day?? or leave you with a lipstick kit and powder to top up."
People dont wanna hear its not normal working conditions LMFAO...doing make up in a hotel room is not a weird condition lol ...just say yall want the money man lol

It does vary but remember that there’s the difference between the one-off and all day services, you’ll pay for the trial and potentially for the travel costs if you’re outside of their area. I’ve seen £250 - £2000. Xx
