    Nico's Career/WDC win always reminds me of the saying "luck is what happens when opportunity meets preparation". People always say his win was a fluke or that he got lucky, but he showed up every year with the unwavering belief he could climb to the pinnacle of the sport. His whole life's work gave him the ability to capitalize when his time came in 2016. It definitely didn't happen by chance.

      i dont know this dude and never watched f1 back then, but you CANNOT be "just lucky" in winning a wdc
      a normal "lucky" driver is not WDC contender, just because of the car. you cant drive it to it's full potential and you SURELY cant beat lewis on equal machinery just by being a normal lucky driver.
      luck is involved, but still is what determines it.

      he definitely gave it 100% - but even with HAM engine issues in 2016, it came down to the FINAL race and ROS was almost passed by Vettel, which would have cost him the WDC. Thats how close it was and some of that was definitely luck.

The only metric he came on top was the total points.. by 5.. with an entire race less for Hamilton thanks to that brand new engine blowing up while he was leading. He objectively was not the better driver in 2016, let alone across all their seasons together. I respect he brought the fight, but he was never better.

    People tend to look at Malaysia 2016 but seem to forget the rest of 2016. Nico had that 7 consecutive win streak early on that year. Also, 2016 was the only year where Nico beat Lewis at prestigious tracks like Spa, Monza, Singapore and Suzuka. If we want to bring up Malaysia, never forget that Nico got spun around by Vettel at the first corner and was last.

      @@assat10 That's not true. Hamilton had only 2 DNF's in the 2016 season (Spain where he ran into Rosberg and caused Rosberg to DNF too) and Malaysia when his engine blew. Rosberg had only 1 DNF when Hamilton ran into him as explained above.
      So Hamilton had only 1 DNF related to material in 2016. That's not a lot.
      it's better to look at the number of races both finished. Then we see Hamilton was ahead 10 times and Rosberg 9 times. Very even. Only twice didn't Hamilton finish and once didn't Rosberg finish.
      Rosberg had such a big points lead so he could finish 2nd in the last 4 races and still become the DWC. And that was exactly what Rosberg did. He might have been able to win one of those 4 races if he needed to.
      So Rosberg was in charge for most of the 2016 and eventually became the champion. He was better than Hamilton that year.

Then Hamilton missed all of FP2 and FP3 at Singapore (Nico won again). Then Hamilton got hit by Bottas in Bahrain at turn 1, damaged his car and dropped him to 10th (Nico won). 6 of Nico's 9 wins involved Hamilton completely out of the race.

    Vettel, I remember him defending Rosberg at Abu Dhabi was to pay him back for spinning him out on the first lap of Malaysia that same year, and Rosberg made a phenomenal comeback to P4, which people are always overshadowing by Lewis's engine failure. But, let's be real here. Japan was the race that gave Nico the title, not Malaysia. Yeah, Lewis's engine blowing up was a salt in the wound, but Japan was a race where Lewis could claw back, but he just didn't. Nico won the race and stayed in 2nd from USA to Abu Dhabi because he far ahead enough in terms of points to win the title. So he didn't have to worry about winning any more races. Max did also overtake him in Brazil, but spun and gave Nico 2nd place back. But that did not matter if he would have stayed in 3rd, because he would have still won the title by 2 points in Abu Dhabi.

      You do realise if Lewis's engine didn't blow up in Malaysia, Nico could have finished the remaining races in 2nd behind Lewis and still lost the Championship!!!!!

    • @traviscurry1506
      @traviscurry1506 2 місяці тому

      Lewis would have won in Malaysia comfortably with Nico not even being in the podium because the 2 Redbulls were 2 and 3 with Nico in p4. Therefore, Malaysia was the reason Nico won because the points result for that race would have been more than enough for Lewis the win the championship even if Nico had finished P2 behind lewis (which he did) for the remaining races.

      @LegendarySnipez7000 2 місяці тому +4

      @@traviscurry1506 But you do realize that it's worth mentioning that Nico would have been taking more risks and pushing harder if Lewis had won in Malaysia. So Nico would have been world champion no matter what. I could also compensate that Lewis's bad starts cost him the title as well.

    • @traviscurry1506
      @traviscurry1506 2 місяці тому

      @LegendarySnipez7000 that's not adding up mate. If I'm Nico, why would I take my feet off the gas for the final few races knowing it's Lewis I'm up against, and if I somehow suffer the reliability issues he's had, its game over for me!!! So the reason of Nico not taking more risk is vague. And like you said the amount of issues lewis suffered in the beginning of the season, it's incredible that he took the championship fight down to the last race.

    • @no1washerezz
      @no1washerezz 2 місяці тому +2

      @@LegendarySnipez7000 i don't think that rosberg would have won were it not for malaysia. that was the most defining moment in the championship. instead of a net gain of 13 points on rosberg, hamilton lost 15 points to him. it would have given hamilton the lead for the world championship and ultimately, the events of japan would not have mattered because rosberg's point advantage would never have been large enough to settle for p2 every race.

    In 2016 Nico Rosberg beat LH in the same machinery fair and square. Engine breakdowns are a part of the game in F1. At the end of the year Nico collected more points than LH and was a deserving champion. No if and or buts. He then decided that the level of commitment to beat LH at the top of his game was too much and retired. His decision and all LH lovers saying that he chickened out can go kick rocks!

    One of the most underrated drivers ever in F1 for sure. He completely demolished all his teammates including M. Schum. Theb 2013-2014 he was on par with Lewis despite the pressure from the press that always benefits Brits. Then he finally beat Lewis in 2016. He wasn't only good in engineering, understanding the car, physical and mental strength. He was also crazy fast

    I was always a Lewis fan, being British. But Nico really sacrificed so much to commit 100% of his mental and physical power in the 2016 season. So much so he knew he couldn't do it again and decided to bow out at the peak. Ultimate champion, they both deserved it that year but still happy that Nico got it.

    Nico knew that the team dynamic and Lewis’s ego would make for a miserable 2017. He was smart to get out. He got the WC he wanted and has had a great life since retiring. He also taught Lewis he needed to keep his focus on racing during the racing season.
    I really loved the joy of Nico and his family after he won his much deserved championship.

    What I always thought really ignited him to beat Lewis in 2016 was when Lewis won the championship in 2015.
    Nico went on to win the last 3 races of 2015 and the first 4 of 2016, that was super impressive, yes Lewis had more reliability issues in 2016 but thats what happens sometimes unfortunately. But you can’t deny Nico upped his game significantly as soon as Lewis had that 3rd championship won

    Nico was the ultimate engineer inside the car itself. I credit him so much with the success of Mercedes because he was the one largely behind the testing, feedback and setup of the car. Post Rosberg and reg changes Mercedes has struggled.
    Yes Lewis had more pace, but knowledge of the car, how it works, how to extract the best from it is ALL Nico. He is the modern scientist that many refer to Lauda/prost of the past as being.
