What's happening here is called Emotional Amnesia. It is when a person suppresses their trauma to the point of completely forgetting everything. Leaving only a few tidbits of memory fragments that provides as proof that something had actually happened but not explicitly making the person remember such events.
@@YonKaGor We are glad you showed this masterpiece to the world, I can tell you that I have experienced so much in all my years of life.. You are not alone in your fights, Keep going with confidence. 🎉
Three things: 1. This song is an absolute bop 2. The visuals are top tier 3. I could easily write for multiple pages dissecting everything I love about it just in terms of the visual design. The cinematography, the typography, the visual storytelling. Simply fantastic in every way!
This song is so upbeat but the music video leaves me with dark undertones. The lyrics clearly talk about trauma literally and then we are shown's the cat character as a shadow silhouette where red pawprints are all over their body. This kind of makes me think of sexual abuse trauma. Then there are these lyrics "Did it really happen or were they pieces thrown around?". Not the first nor the last time when something very seriously traumatizing happens in your childhood and your conscious mind "exiles" these painful memories to protect you, then you start to question if it happened at all.
"Remember to forget." That line, I think, is the key for this song. It's a phrase that is meant to be a reminder to the speaker. It should remind them that they need to move on and grow. They don't need to remember because there was nothing worth remembering. Beautiful writing, Yon, as always.
I think it's actually the reverse in a way. It looks like the aspect ratio is shifting from an old timey tv to a more modern display while it's flickering between the two of them. In the scene, I don't think that he's trying to move on with the flame, rather, he's trying to forcibly repress everything, or even could be him hoping to forget and his brain naturally making him forget certain aspectos, leaving only a fractured sense of memory in its wake. I also noticed that it looks like his hand may be a bit smaller and he may or may not be a bit shorter when he's holding the match. It's a bit difficult to tell though for sure though. In my view, it's a shift between the past self trying to hide it all, and the present self trying to heal from the scattered pieces. Perhaps even like how repressed memories can sometimes come back up as PTSD in sudden blasts of flashbacks.
@@AngelFoxxoJP I definitely see that, and, knowing Yon and how they write, that's probably closer the more I think about it. The phrase itself is meant to remind the person who wrote/spoke it to forget, but it paradoxically would remind them of the trauma and pain they endured. I think it's an attempt to remind themself to forcibly forget what happened. In a sense, it could be a way for them to bottle it up. There're multiple angles that could be taken, which is why I love how they write their songs.
@@alexibeshears7549 Fr, that's always some of what's so great with really good art. I personally don't have any trauma like this, but I find myself having a significantly good understanding of some of these things, and I can fully see it as being so closely related to the way that almost anyone with deep traumatic experiences like this try every method to forget and get rid of it. I know some people who have had some varying degrees of success in this, but it just about always leads to them coming back almost like extremely vivid nightmares, but during the day. The horrible experience of flashbacks is something that I'm glad I haven't had anything more than a light taste of in my life.
YonKaGor is definitely planning to make the YonKaLore a reality Edit: so i was right, because there is a lot of mentions of former OCs (Clownfish and Convict)
The best part of the song is when yon says "its YonKaTime" and starts throwing fish all over the place Edit: Hello everyone! I am the person who made the subtitles in Spanish (Latin American). Now, seriously speaking, this is the YonKaGor song I relate to the most. It was an honor to be able to translate it and I hope all Spanish speakers liked it! ❤🐟😺
Honestly I absolutely love the lines "Reveal all the trauma I suffered. I'll relive it all to be born much stronger." It's such an amazing phrase that shows exactly why we have all of the pain in our lives. We use it to make ourselves become way much stronger than we normally would be if we didn't go through it.
The song is about PTSD and memory repression. Building up and being stronger is the little lie that we tell ourselves to help get over it. The visuals for "born much stronger" are words that are full of cracks and holes.. the foundation you build up to be stronger is just something that can fall apart and break down if the wrong words or phrases are said.
Love how much manipulation it is to onself. That's obviously not true. Remembering what someone did to you wont make you stronger just more scared. Forcing themself to recover their memories with a fleeting optimism, because they feel they are broken without the trauma of the past.
I don't want to be mean, but I don't know many people who've gotten stronger from trauma. Often times, it ends up with them breaking down if an event makes them think they're back there.
A couple of years ago I had a long distance relationship. she was the perfect partner. But as time went on she turned into a monster, she manipulated me, and one day left me without a trace, I was so hurt. This song reminds me of her. I'm very glad to hear it, I feel more understood and as you said "I'll relive it all to be born much stronger".
I'm glad that we can feel connection to songs like this. It's a thing I've seen some others do where they think that if they expose themselves to something hurtful enough times, they'll be numb or immune to it in a way. Or even just the thought that it 'shouldn't bother you so much' or whatnot, that some people tell themselves about things that the think are small things, but in reality, are extremely painful and/or traumatic experiences.
Bro actually same! I used to have a member of my poly who was horribly manipulative and abusive. Our relationship literally ended with her trying to fake a grooming drama. Ive been without her for about a year-ish, but i still feel some of the effects sometimes still
When it's still not out yet but you know it's going to be peak music and animation. Edit: Yon is definitely pointing the finger at those of us trying to piece together all their old work, and I love that.
Wow, I never thought of that aspect in respect to the audience, and their older work and past, but it absolutely makes sense and I'm kicking myself for not immediately connecting that dot. Either way this turned out as an absolute banger and is probably one of their best works yet IMO.
Theory time! I believe this song is about childhood trauma more specifically being gaslighted and/or hurt by a loved one or family member at a young age. As a trauma response you would try to forget what happened, the first moment chronologically you can see is at 3:00 where a child version of Speckle burning memories of their trauma. You can tell that what is being burnt is traumatic by the line "Painful times, they were all erased", and it isn't just any event that was traumatic SOMEONE hurt them by the line "Then there's no way someone else can repeat what you did to me". Then years later Speckle starts to realize something is wrong they can feel something is off about a loved one. Proof: "'Cause the sweetness on your face and the tenderness of your warm embrace somehow they left a bitter taste." As they look up at their old memories they realize everything is burnt ( 4:25 ) so they have to go though the little they have to figure out what happened all the while they doubt if anything even happened proof of this by the line "Did it really happen or were they pieces thrown around" but they keep going because they believe the "The past is all built on lies where one word could break it down". One word, one non-burnt page of their memory and they can proof it all, they can revile everything they did to them (at this point is where the song starts)... but there was nothing "Sorting recollections scanning for patterns to compare but nothing comes up to mind In the fragments that I can't repair." there wasn't a WHOLE idea only fragments of pages but it kept pressing them "There's nothing to trace painful times, they were all erased and yet my body's screaming 'Don't make the same mistake'" don't do the same thing as the child version did, forget. Then he starts to get somewhere "Can I go ahead and surrender to the visions that I just can't remember merging all of these memories to a blend of anomalies" they can't remember YET what happened and they are SO close they just want to give up to their visions to just REMEMBER their past and they start to see anomalies small pieces that didn't get burned, pieces of trauma... They want to learn this, they are no longer scared and tempted to just forget it they WANT to go through it all again "Reveal all the trauma I suffered I'll relive it all to be born much stronger then there's no way someone else can repeat what you did to me" they start to take these anomalies and ties them all together as shown in in visuals of 2:09. "Once, merely a single touch now, a swarm to undertake it's surely too late for me 'cause my limit is going to break." they get it now not just what happened but WHY they burnt it in the first place it was only a bit of hurt before but now it is a swarm of emotions as they realize what happened fully, no fragments, nothing is hidden, but they still want to persist and to not forget again they want to become stronger then the memories that hurt them "Oh, the memories stay painful times are put on replay and still, my body's screaming 'Don't make the same mistakes'", but they start to question if it was their fault (a common response to childhood trauma by the way) "Was there any chance for me to run? Was there something different that I could've done? I'm left with a mangled mind that repeats what you did to me.", and even one last time questioning if they should just forget again... "And now my memory's in disarray It forced a reinstall remember to forget them all" but there wasn't they were just a child, there was nothing more they could do. They see it was THEIR fault "Reveal all the trauma I suffered I'll relive it all, to be born much stronger then there's no way someone else can repeat what you did to me." they figured out who hurt them as a child "Now I see through all your endeavours and the sinful scars that I'll hold forever tainting all of these melodies full of mixed-up apologies."... Well that's all I have!! Love to hear comments on this, hopefully YonKaGor could read this if you are just wanna let you know I love your songs!
I can agree with this theory, and really, it kinda makes the song relatable. Very relatable. I guess that serves as extra proof this is very likely right.
I think my favorite part is the constant cuts of younger yon with the match and current yon with the mangfiying glass, before it cuts to current yon with a match too, showing that they realized what their past self felt so long ago. "Theres a reason they were thrown away". That scene just says so much from visuals alone. I love this song so much!
this is literally the best song ever and i havent even listened to it yet Edit: just listened to it and my statement still stands and it is my favorite song now
Okay. Okay? Okay. First off: *THIS ANIMATION?? HELLO??* The art in these videos is already stunning, but this one's animation alongside it is just... wow. The arc shots are unbelievably well done, and the singing (we'll get there in a minute) while it happens only adds to the overall impact of it. That's to say nothing of how crispy and smooth the animation itself as a whole is. The cinematography of the dramatic shots, and one of the most prominent things, the fire---especially towards the end with everything on the walls slowly burning---was so damn hype. And the vocals... don't even get me started. You can tell in their singing that Yon is genuinely having a good time when they record these. And this is a very prominent example, where it just sounds like they're belting their absolute heart out, and it makes the impact of some of the more dramatic shots that much more, well, impactful. Masterclass music, but that's no surprise when it comes to Yon at this point. Brilliantly done, to everyone involved. Amazing.
I feel like this song is gonna have a lot of references to old songs and stuff, especially because it's called "Memory Merge", and having that little detail in the thumbmail is so cool! :D
Been struggling with some trauma from when i was child for about 3 years now. It all came flooding back to me while i was finishing up college. For the longest time, I couldnt believe if what had happened actually happened, if i was overreacting, or something else. Not to mention, my family doubts me while also pestering me with questions i dont have the answers to. Discovered this song about three nights ago, and ever since, Ive felt a wave of catharsis like never before. This song helps me conceptualize my pain so much better and while it did refresh my mind about what happened to me, it has helped me to feel more comfortable about the circumstances of my trauma. I can't remember, and I likely won't. I will go in circles for the rest of my life with this pain, but this has helped me so much, to not feel alone and to understand my situation in a better light. On top of everything that this song has done to help me with my pain, it's also an amazing song, and is currently my favorite song ever
@blindolakase heterochromia. Its a mutation that can occur that gives someone two differently colored eyes. As far as i know there isnt any adherent negative effects, so its just a cool thing people get sometimes And they can be like....striking differences in colors sometimes
A lot of the wording in this song makes me think of disociative identity disorder. Talking of memory loss, trying to repair fragments, that memories where erased, the line that says thoughts into voices, talking about how they want recovery, but wasn't given an escape because DID is not an easily curable disorder, and for many somthing they deal with for life. At the end of the song we see a younger version of speckle which could either mean one of 2 things. That this is childhood trama (which is necessary for the formation of DID, or age regression, a thing that happens in systems to many alters so they can better understand their trama. i mean even the name of the song is memory merge, whitch matches the whole idea of fusing alters. It also could be that all the characters from yonkagors songs are representations of alters as though they all look similar they are treated as different people and dress differently. This is all just things im picking up from the text as someone with a disociative disorder and my thoughts and theories about the yonkagor Cinematic Universe. End of the day this song makes me happy and something i can heavily relate to, even if the message im getting isn't the intended one. ^.^
Yeah as someone who was diagnosed with it this year this was the first thing I thought of when listening to it, was a hard listen but overall a VERRY good song.
So after listening to this song (Great song btw I love it) like 3 times in the past half hour, I already have a theory as to the story. Whether its obvious or not, idk, but I still want to share my thoughts [Trigger Warning] To me, this song is about someone reflecting on the Abuse they dealt with in their past, likely from a Relationship Partner. Especially with lines like "What you did to me." or "Now the sweetness on your face, and the tenderness of your warm embrace, Somehow they left a bitter taste." Both these lines show that, at least in the present moment, whatever happened to the character singing had a lasting impact, and the Paw prints appearing over their body in scenes like 2:25 alongside the "warm embrace" line imply a physical Closeness, whether willing or not. Plus, lines like "Now I see through all your endeavours, and the sinful scars that I'll hold forever," again implying physical contact. As well as this, there are the things pasted on the pinboard. Wanted Posters, but also Maps and weird informational material on Fish, or the same silhouette. You may excuse the fish as a YonKaGor staple, and the Map may seem sensible, but to me, with the previous evidence, this feels more like trying to piece together an *individual.* Trying to find who they could be, rather than what happened to them. But why does this matter? Well, earlier in the song, the line "Painful times, they were all erased" appears. This is why the Main Character is doing what they are doing in the song. The red strings and pinned photos, the matching of evidence in scenes like 0:49, they aren't literal. The MC isn't searching for a literal missing person, they're searching their memories for the person, for the event, what occurred. As the song continues, the MC starts putting together and remembering what occurred, shown by the board from 0:41 growing in scale by 2:05. They've remembered more, searched deeper. The previous line of "Now I see through all your endeavours" shows the MC finally coming to terms with, and understanding what happened. Plus, the whole Lacking Memory idea is even shown by the fact we never even *see* the Missing Person our MC is searching for, whether through posters, or scenes like 2:33. Even if we get some details, their face is always obscured. The line "Don't make the same Mistake" even gets built upon, the single "Mistake" becoming "Mistakes," as if suddenly more have appeared. By the end, they even reflect on their decision to remember. "There was a reason they were thrown away, Why they were locked behind from my display... ...It forced to reinstall, Remember to Forget them all." They realise that they'd rather not recollect what happened, or possibly that they're moving on from what happened, symbolised through Burning everything. Getting rid of it. Either clearing it from their mind, or letting it pass on to dust, to continue without it. My bet, though, is on the former, as the lines after the burning state "Can I go ahead and surrender to the visions that I just can't remember?" and the ending as a whole completely links back to the start of the song, same scene and all, though with noticeably less material to gather information from. However, rewinding to the start, we can actually see papers already burned and charred, hidden under other sheets or off on the corners. This isn't the first time this has happened. And I believe that even the introduction *before* the song shows this. The scene starts with the same hazy deep blue as seen in the middle of the song, before turning back to white. Even the presumable flashbacks to the younger MC during the burning of the evidence. Its the *young* version burning it all down. Whether this is a flashback that ties to the start of the song itself, or symbolism of showing that this is a repeated progress, and that constantly, the MC is trying to move on, trying to forget what happened, but being unable to, and going back to piece it from scratch every single time. To me personally, Memory Merge is the story of a Victim of Abuse trying to recall what happened in their past, ultimately deciding after discovering more and more, to forget and move on, but being unable to, staying in a constant loop of searching for who abused them, and what occurred. Or maybe I'm completely wrong, I don't have a clue, this is just what I personally got from the lyrics and visuals. Great song, 10/10, I love it!
This is so well put together!! It makes me appreciate all the ABSURD amount of effort that went into the distinct part of the songs (the lyrics, the visuals, the symbolism used) that went over my head before. What a great analysis, I definitely can see this being the case behind this awesome song!
i feel like its more simple, its just someone in a good relaitonship who got ghosted or smth. its sucks to remember how much fun you were having with someone you loved and cant have anymore.
Good relationships are like glue and nails on a ship. Even through all the seas, you stick together and make the best of things. Bad relationships are like napalm, drills, and self destructive meltdowns on a ship. Even though the most peaceful waves, someone is drilling a hole in the ship, setting it on fire, and going "Why is the ship i just lit on fire sinking?" There's two sides for every story. But sometimes you have stories you WANT the ship to sink and get set on fire (even if it's the other person), just so you can sail alone from the drama. There's a pov to every story, but there's some people you can't save from themselves who'll say you're the cause of every problem. Only to sink when you leave. And you know what? I feel like we'd all sink together with them. I'd rather have 1 or 2 people float alone than set up a boat with someone drilling holes in it. Or someone who starves a pet feeding it goldfish crackers as a "18-47 year old 'adult'" than a person volunteering to help rehome animals at a animal shelter.
I absolutely love the last verse where the first verse is repeated, like the singer is doubting whether their discoveries were even true because they're too painful to accept. It also cuts off, like the singer forced themselves to forget everything before they started into a downward spiral. Really fits in with the whole theme of the song
THE SONG IS FREAKING AMAZING! I love the theming around repression and trauma fucking with your memory and oh my god I relate so much to some of it! time to overanalyse these lyrics until I distill the purest form of the meaning
i fucking ate the *paper alibis* that *forgot that i existed* i also hate *pop music* when somebody whos *gone* sang it after they *lied behind their snout* and caused a *fallacy* which *made someone fall in love* with someone whos *normal*
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE EXPLAIN ME HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS I: · Figured out my bf was a furry all along · Was recommended to listen to Yon’s music by him · Fell in love with their magnificent voice (In the beginning I thought it was just like any other, but it literally took me less than 36 hours to realize how wrong I was) · Memorized by heart already half of their songs · (Almost) became a furry (I just need to get over the denial phase) 😭😭😭 The story of my life LMAO
That was so fire Also the lyrics "once, merely a single touch, now, a swarm to undertake" are painfully relatable to me with how my mind plays some event that wouldn't have even really been a big deal over and over and over again and then *turns* it into a big deal
Anyone else think that all of Yon's songs if ordered correctly could make a great musical about like someone's slow decent from happy to suicidally depressed with their first song of "Fish!" to their newest one "Waterland"?
man, i know how depressing that song actually is as its practically talking about how with each memory that merges in his own mind, it leaves a mental scar that he cant remove, that he cant forget, and even as he "burns" his memory, it becomes even worse, this is my favorite song as this can be applied to every part of my life

I remember on my first day of (online) high school, I had my music playlist on youtube pulled up mid-class, and Paper Alibis was recommended to me. I listened to that EP for the first time mid-class while half pretending to work and half texting my new classmates, and that is still a core memory to me. That was in August 2020. Fast forward to now, May 2024, and I have graduation rehearsal tomorrow, and I graduate thursday. Somehow yon's music has followed me the whole way there (without dropping a single bad song!). what a world.
Interesting, so this song actually confirms that every single character that was in these songs is actually the same person. This main character here just went through different experiences at different ages of their life, they have also recovered from each experience. They’ve tried to forget all of the trauma from their past, just blocking it out as if it never happened. As a result of this, this also confirms why all of the characters in the recent songs seem way more sane than the previous ones. Think about it, compare someone from a recent song, like groupie, and then compare them to a character like clownfish, it’s really night and day. It could be very likely that this “person” that was always mentioned in these old songs, being some sort of abuser, left a lasting mark on this character here, making them pretend to act more sane then they actually are. This is also why the last character to have unhealthy mental health was convict. In the song, they seemingly realize that they’ve been tricked all along, and the song even mentions at the end that they broke free. So as a result of all of this, watercolour and groupie end up being way more sane. Of course, this is all just a theory, and I could definitely be completely wrong, and just looking way too deeply into this, but oh well… that’s just how I am.
i like that the speckled goldfish is the fish for this vid. goldfish are some of the most abused fish pet species, as well as the "a goldfish's memory" stereotype that isnt actually true!
Okay wait, lore theory I think an important thing to mention is that I belive this "lore" (which is probably completely unintentional) is *completely separate* from the song's main message about traumatic abuse. That being said, lore time. (Sorry about the poor organization) What if this song ties into Circus Hop and You'll Be Gone? It's quite possible that the one who hurt Speckle was Selfish since it would seem speckle has a difficult time trusting anyone except themself, which would make sense if selfish had spread a rumour around. This song also mentions that "the past is built on lies" further supporting that a character like selfish would have turned everyone against speckle. Now, this MV also shows that speckle is SPECIFICALLY investigating the disappearance of Clownfish, who we know alt+f4'd (the insecurity that clownfish has could have also been caused by selfish telling one someone everyone a rumour just for fun.) The notes suggest a connection between characters, which would make sense with the entire premise of You'll Be Gone (being that a friend stopped paying attention to selfish) so it seems probable that 1)Clownfish and Selfish used to be friends 2)Clownfish decided Speckle was better company 3)Selfish started spreading rumours to remove Speckle, but ended up accidentally causing Clownfish to reset character 4)Said rumours gave speckle PTSD i think 5)Speckle investigates and eventually solves the disappearance of Clownfish 6)Speckle discovers that a very small piece of evidence could completely unravel Selfish's rumours. Extra points and evidence: a wanted poster with Selfish's silhouette appears near the start of the song. Speckle seems to suspect/accuse many characters which would make sense if they were turned against them. Much of the trauma appears to be from a long time ago, which means that Selfish could have been a manipulative socialist since childhood. This song mentions that just one word would be enough to reveal the truth, but in You'll Be Gone there's a lyric that lines up which says "how will they know about what happened, if you can't speak a word at all". You'll Be Gone has a lyric which says "look at the tears of who I've harmed" and the only characters that I've seen with tears are Speckle and Clownfish. The red ❌ is featured in all three songs, either to portray that Clownfish is inanimate or during YBG behind selfish during the lyric "You're the only enemy". (The red string from this video also ties Convict's hands in Fallacy) The same "paper covered in ink" effect happens during Circus Hop when the scrap paper appears that says "It[the future] is scarier" and in this video it is used to portray trauma messing with Speckle's mind. Not sure how relevant it is, but Clownfish has a pretty similar hairstyle to Speckle and an extremely similar colour scheme to Selfish. Noticed a missing poster of Routine, which sadly implies that they did end up going through with it. Random detail i noticed, young Speckle had both eyes as yellow, while the present Speckle has one eye yellow and one eye a little duller. But hey, It's just a theory. A YonKaGor theory.
Yeah i think this song is actually connected to a few of Yon's other songs (also I saw a wanted poster of Convict here too during the part where the papers starts burning) The OCs returning in other songs did happened in the past (Honest lie he didnt show up here but he did show up in two other songs) so its entirely possible that this song is connected to you'll be gone, circus hop and fallacy and possibly more songs (someone did say the 8 bit style sync at the start sounds like either paper alibis and Top ten things before you D1e).
shoutout to the period between 2:44 and 3:52 where the screen is raised up slightly this period of time is when yon explains the impact caused by what happened (from the songs to the forgetfulness), followed by the first half of the chorus i have no clue if this part was even meant to be highlighted by the raising up of the screen or if it just looked nicer, but yeah
I resonate with this song quite a bit. I've been in some interesting relationships and they've left me in horrible states, worsened by daily stress. This has gotten to the point where my memory of these things gets dysfunctionate as I try to forget, yet I remain unable to, forced to face them. Whenever I get certain signals I remember all those things against my will. This song made me feel some form of reconciliation oddly, idk why, but keep on making dem, bc these songs are perfect.
Good relationships are supposed to be like Nails and glue, where you come together to form something better. Bad relationships are like napalm and matches on a ship. Where the whole thing starts melting down. Independence isn't a bad thing, if you can care for yourself, you never have to worry about anyone hurting you when you have your back.
@@Notyouraveragename I wish I could have my back, but I'm too young to move away from the people whom hurt me. Independence is defo not a bad thing, in this case it would be good, just cant get it.

This one is my favorite in UA-cam recap!! The whole thing with a detective connecting the memories to each other, and the lines "Was there any chance for me to run? Was there something different that I could've done?" absolutely sold it to me, chills. Coming back to this at every minor inconvenience and every time it strikes my heart just like the first time. Amazing work
Yon nice song rly helps me with my alcohol problem, going to rehab in a week. Started to drink to run away from something 5 years ago but now i dont know why in running away. But i want the rehab myself cuz this cant go on. Anyways ya songs are fire keep it up bro
I'm on a random music binge and found this. At first I just thought "wow, I like this artstyle! And the title is cool!". And then the "what you did to me" absolutely sold this song for me. Absolute peak and will possibly check out other stuff to see if my brain went "oooh, cool rock! Gonna take it!" or "oooh! Cool rock! I want more!"
This has to be the best looking YonKaGor song, too date. The attention to detail is on scale with million dollar companies. I swear I started levitating at 1:16. Why can't I be this talented 😭.
The effort put on the animation is mind blowing, this is exactly what goes into my mind when hearing good music and then I make a whole novel price worthy story i can't replicate in real life 😅
absolutely stunning song, easily the best mv produced, and the lyrics. OUCH. sometimes your songs hit close to home but with the subject matter of this one im really feeling that in a unique way. amazing
this song came out a day before my birthday, peak music peak animation i knew it was gonna be peak as soon as i heard the teaser.. real “trying to uncover the trauma that you sealed away as a coping mechanism, retraumatizing yourself in the process” hours
4:02 this 3 second scene in particular. Fills me A LOT with anger because of..what it represents and it means and...relate too. It makes me wish I could have done something for them just seeing their tears, the same way I wish someone had done something for me. Definitely Yon's best song at the moment
Omg your singing has gotten SO MUCH BETTER!!! I get chills every time I hear it! ❤ Edit: Also, as a music theory student myself, I LOVE that chord progression from minor to major at 2:58
Wow, what a fascinating song! There's tons of interesting themes to delve into here. I'm excited to think about this one! Also, really interesting detail on the name, with the "Y" being cutout to cover the old name. It really highlights the purpose of the song!
Oh my god you're right! I also really love the theming around repression in the song, and how it seems to bring an overarching lore to the songs. This is gonna be really fun to unravel :D
This made me cry from how good it is, you made something truly... truly incredible! A real masterpiece of our time imo, and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest
I do wonder... who is the **you** that did something to Speckle to cause those bad memories? I'm thinking that it's Selfish (You'll be Gone), and that Convict (Fallacy) and Speckle both ended up in negative relationships with Selfish. I mean, we already have seen Convict's side of what happened, being tricked by someone and getting locked up for it (potentially), but Speckle's side is trying to burn it all away (literally). (I had this theory because of the Wanted poster you get a glimpse of during the burning part (around the timestamp 3:34) having visibly a name ending in "ict". Convict is the only one we know who is like that, and they had a similar problem with Selfish. Listen to Fallacy for more details.)
I think I see some references in here. Spoilers BTW. Where the references are: 0:09 The silhouette of Selfish (You'll be gone) on the picture. 0:12 Some lanyard with Selfish on it. Possibly some form of identification. 0:10 Clownfish's (Circus Hop) missing poster. 0:15 Convict's (Fallacy) wanted poster 0:22 A wanted poster for Selfish. 0:40 Article (or something like that) on Seadrive (TTTTDBYD) or Selfish again. Also more pictures of Convict, Selfish, and another missing poster for Clownfish. 0:47 That's most definitely Seadrive on the article. 1:09 A clearer shot of Clownfish's missing poster. 1:16-1:21 Pictures of Convict, Clownfish's missing poster, and pictures of Selfish fly by in the background. 1:38 Clownfish's missing poster again. 1:44 Might be a picture of Papercraft (Paper alibis) on the right. 1:47 The note on the top-right says "They might have a symbiotic relationship with bacteria". 1:54 Picture in the background of a character (it might be Seadrive or Papercraft again). 2:00 Clownfish's missing poster again. 2:04 All of the stuff mentioned previously can be seen on the board. 2:11 You are able to see the article with Seadrive, a practically frame-perfect QR code (YON WHY), a wanted poster for Convict, and a second missing poster for Clownfish. 2:30 Blurry silhouette of Speckle (Memory Merge). 2:32 Clearer silhouette of Speckle. 2:40 I didn't find anything new in this shot, but I don't want to be here for 500 years so... 2:47 Convict again. 3:01 Nothing new again. 3:02 The text's "in" transition seems to hold the potential for a cypher. I will put the solve for this at the bottom of the comment. (Edit: It's a shift cypher) 3:22 There are earlier shots of the video that can be seen burning alongside the other assets. 4:01 There seems to be small flashes of sharks on the screen along with the rest of the foreground elements. IDK if this is important, but I wanted to point it out anyway. 4:30 Seadrive, Clownfish, and Selfish can be seen on the papers that are left. 4:39 I think that something appears behind his UA-cam icon at the end of the video, but I don't know if that's just a UA-cam feature or not. T-->U E-->F S-->T A-->B R-->S O-->P N-->O H-->I Y-->Z W-->X . I will not continue to solve this because it appears to be a simple shift cypher.
*TW (mention of SA and abuse)* This song could mean many things but personally I feel like this could be about SA and a person trying to recover from the horrible experience. But an equally horrifying and still traumatizing meaning to this song could be; recovering from losing someone who turned out to be a, either emotionally and/or physically, abusive person. However, either way, the person singing the song is trying to remember the traumatic experience and piece together why and how it happened. But thankfully there is a good ending! 'Cause, at the end of the song, they finally let go of the past and try to recover in a healthier way! Instead of overanalyzing the terrible experience and blaming themself, they let it all burn down and finally let themself move on from everything that happened to them. In conclusion, I love this song and its meaning. Not only does the music go so hard, the meaning and story is absolutely beautiful! Even if my interpretation may not be the intended meaning, I still think this tells an important and real story. So I love this song! Thanks for reading this little essay of why this song is awesome, I hope you have a great day :] Edit 1: And by the way, if you didn't know already, SA means sexual assault. And if you still don't know what that is, google it
The song is about dissociative amnesia, being stuck in a loop of wanting to remember and forget the past and the people that hurted them. Speckle most likely suffered abuse from someone else but there's nothing in the song indicating that they suffered SA Edit: Also, for me the ending isn't a happy one, since they still look distressed and I feel like he's just stuck in a loop of wanting to remember it all again and then wanting to forget it again because of the pain. Also the last time the first verse is repeated of there are much less papers (or memories) pinned to the wall, meaning he forgets more and more about the past each time. Edit 2: Also that was a very nice theory :)
This is a goddamn banger, thank you Yonkagor!! I also wanna thank Andre for the animation. Holy cow it was beautiful and i loved every second of it. You did every little thing beautifully

I think that the fact that the eyes' colors swaps between the younger Yonka and the present one tells something about the thing that happened to them And now that the memories are back, the actual Yonka now has the same colors in their eyes that the younger one I also got to see the qr code I don't regret it-
Dude I've been listening to this song for so long, and only now do I realize that certain instruments and parts of the music can only be heard through one or the other headphone. I move my headset off my left ear during the beginning of the song and my jaw dropped when I could only hear the melody, the just bassline disappeared,, fantastic song I've never had a song pull the rug from under me like that, especially after listening to it for days straight,

What's happening here is called Emotional Amnesia. It is when a person suppresses their trauma to the point of completely forgetting everything. Leaving only a few tidbits of memory fragments that provides as proof that something had actually happened but not explicitly making the person remember such events.

Three things:
1. This song is an absolute bop
2. The visuals are top tier
3. I could easily write for multiple pages dissecting everything I love about it just in terms of the visual design. The cinematography, the typography, the visual storytelling. Simply fantastic in every way!
I usually have a very hard time dissecting the meaning of things, I was pretty damn excited to actually understand this song. Storytelling is so good
André Moraph did that !

Why the hell is this song SO. DAMN. GOOD.
LIKE HOLY SHIT.
"There's no way someone else can repeat what you did to me" also implies traumstic sexual abuse to me
The fact that the flashback of them is as a child too
Yo are we gonna just ignore the fact that in the "wanted", and "missing" posters it shows the shadows of the different Yonkagor oc's?

"Remember to forget." That line, I think, is the key for this song. It's a phrase that is meant to be a reminder to the speaker. It should remind them that they need to move on and grow. They don't need to remember because there was nothing worth remembering. Beautiful writing, Yon, as always.
YonKaGor
@@katdisk ? Are you referring to "speaker" or "Yon" in my comment? I assume you're making a correction for me?
This ironically came out the same day I left a 6 year abusive relationship, and god damn is it relatable.

You should probably also listen to "fallacy" and "I forgot that you exist"
YonKaGor
The song does hit in that way for me as well
I'm glad that we can feel connection to songs like this.

@@robw3610 it's a lot easier to notice when you've engaged with that side of the fabase.
Love to hear comments on this, hopefully YonKaGor could read this if you are just wanna let you know I love your songs!

edit: the character's name is Speckle, it was shared within yon's community posts
I’m not reading all this but I agree I think it’s about childhood trauma
I can agree with this theory, and really, it kinda makes the song relatable. Very relatable. I guess that serves as extra proof this is very likely right.
This is an awesome analysis! Though I wanna say Yon uses they/them, not he
The childhood trauma is when they were a child one of their family members took the last fish on the table
The shot of the evidence and memories circling Speckle was actually insane. Peak as always, everyone here did amazingly!!!
I think my favorite part is the constant cuts of younger yon with the match and current yon with the mangfiying glass, before it cuts to current yon with a match too, showing that they realized what their past self felt so long ago. First off: *THIS ANIMATION?? HELLO??*
The art in these videos is already stunning, but this one's animation alongside it is just...
Amazing.

Whether its obvious or not, idk, but I still want to share my thoughts
[Trigger Warning]
To me, this song is about someone reflecting on the Abuse they dealt with in their past, likely from a Relationship Partner. Especially with lines like "What you did to me." or "Now the sweetness on your face, and the tenderness of your warm embrace, Somehow they left a bitter taste."
Both these lines show that, at least in the present moment, whatever happened to the character singing had a lasting impact, and the Paw prints appearing over their body in scenes like 2:25 alongside the "warm embrace" line imply a physical Closeness, whether willing or not.
What a great analysis, I definitely can see this being the case behind this awesome song!
good
@@Leonar1450yes and it makes sense that a goldfish is the fish that represents or is next to speckle.
i feel like its more simple, its just someone in a good relaitonship who got ghosted or smth. its sucks to remember how much fun you were having with someone you loved and cant have anymore.
Good relationships are like glue and nails on a ship. Even through all the seas, you stick together and make the best of things.
Bad relationships are like napalm, drills, and self destructive meltdowns on a ship. Even though the most peaceful waves, someone is drilling a hole in the ship, setting it on fire, and going "Why is the ship i just lit on fire sinking?"
There's two sides for every story.
The evolution from paper swirling to fire is insane. AND THAT FIRE ONG THAT WAS SO WELL DONE
I absolutely love the last verse where the first verse is repeated, like the singer is doubting whether their discoveries were even true because they're too painful to accept. It also cuts off, like the singer forced themselves to forget everything before they started into a downward spiral. Really fits in with the whole theme of the song
Am I gonna wait twenty hours for a yonkagor song? Heck yea
And that's the best thing ill do today :3
u ain't a real YonKaGor fan if you don't sit on the video waiting screen from the moment the premier time is set to when the song premieres.
True.

THE SONG IS FREAKING AMAZING! I love the theming around repression and trauma fucking with your memory and oh my god I relate so much to some of it! time to overanalyse these lyrics until I distill the purest form of the meaning
2:12 i just realized the missing poster is clownfish from circus hop..... oh damm, he did something horrible and thats why he jumped off....
I LOVE YONKAGOR !!!!
I liked the part of the song when the Memory exclaimed, "It's Merging time," and Merged all over the place.
Great song Yon!!
I'm gonna Merge into oncoming traffic if the hours don't Be Gone themselves, cause this is not Normal. 🙏🐟

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE EXPLAIN ME HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS I:
· Figured out my bf was a furry all along
· Was recommended to listen to Yon’s music by him
· Fell in love with their magnificent voice (In the beginning I thought it was just like any other, but it literally took me less than 36 hours to realize how wrong I was)
· Memorized by heart already half of their songs
· (Almost) became a furry (I just need to get over the denial phase) 😭😭😭
The story of my life LMAO
Good luck. :D
Allow me to help.
You are a furry. Chances are you were always a furry and just defined "furry" differently. Snap into reality.
I know how messed up life can be. Good luck with it.
I'm in the "am I a furry or not MAKE UP MY FKN MIND ME" phase
(⊙_◎)
That was so fire
Also the lyrics "once, merely a single touch, now, a swarm to undertake" are painfully relatable to me with how my mind plays some event that wouldn't have even really been a big deal over and over and over again and then *turns* it into a big deal
only YonKaGor could make a song about relationship possibly SA trauma into a jazzy ass big band sounding MASTERPIECE of a song
Anyone else think that all of Yon's songs if ordered correctly could make a great musical about like someone's slow decent from happy to suicidally depressed with their first song of "Fish!" to their newest one "Waterland"?
Yeah...don't know what order
@ yep dats my only problem which order i would put them in if it was a musica
man, i know how depressing that song actually is as its practically talking about how with each memory that merges in his own mind, it leaves a mental scar that he cant remove, that he cant forget, and even as he "burns" his memory, it becomes even worse, this is my favorite song as this can be applied to every part of my life
Около двух недель назад узнал о Йоне. Очень крутой подход к деталям, картинка, смыслы некоторых песен, особенно когда узнаёшь немного больше о его истории, да и в общем-то жанр его песенок необычный.
You might have actually cooked hard, I love your idea! You really *connected* it
something i noticed is how on the "Missing" posters the silhouette is the character from "Circus hop"
wow a music theory
@@FiereTheCatBoy
...that is grim.
THE EYE COLOR SLOWLY FADING WAS SUCH A PHENOMENAL TOUCH
i like that the speckled goldfish is the fish for this vid. goldfish are some of the most abused fish pet species, as well as the "a goldfish's memory" stereotype that isnt actually true!
Okay wait, lore theory
I think an important thing to mention is that I belive this "lore" (which is probably completely unintentional) is *completely separate* from the song's main message about traumatic abuse. That being said, lore time.
(Sorry about the poor organization)
What if this song ties into Circus Hop and You'll Be Gone? It's quite possible that the one who hurt Speckle was Selfish since it would seem speckle has a difficult time trusting anyone except themself, which would make sense if selfish had spread a rumour around.
This song also mentions that "the past is built on lies" further supporting that a character like selfish would have turned everyone against speckle.
Now, this MV also shows that speckle is SPECIFICALLY investigating the disappearance of Clownfish, who we know alt+f4'd (the insecurity that clownfish has could have also been caused by selfish telling one someone everyone a rumour just for fun.)
The notes suggest a connection between characters, which would make sense with the entire premise of You'll Be Gone (being that a friend stopped paying attention to selfish) so it seems probable that
1)Clownfish and Selfish used to be friends
2)Clownfish decided Speckle was better company
3)Selfish started spreading rumours to remove Speckle, but ended up accidentally causing Clownfish to reset character
4)Said rumours gave speckle PTSD i think
5)Speckle investigates and eventually solves the disappearance of Clownfish
6)Speckle discovers that a very small piece of evidence could completely unravel Selfish's rumours.
(The red string from this video also ties Convict's hands in Fallacy)
The same "paper covered in ink" effect happens during Circus Hop when the scrap paper appears that says "It[the future] is scarier" and in this video it is used to portray trauma messing with Speckle's mind.
But hey,
It's just a theory.
A YonKaGor theory.
Yeah i think this song is actually connected to a few of Yon's other songs (also I saw a wanted poster of Convict here too during the part where the papers starts burning)
The OCs returning in other songs did happened in the past (Honest lie he didnt show up here but he did show up in two other songs) so its entirely possible that this song is connected to you'll be gone, circus hop and fallacy and possibly more songs (someone did say the 8 bit style sync at the start sounds like either paper alibis and Top ten things before you D1e).
this is actually crazy wtf
Fuck it thats canon for me now xd
OUGHH THANK YOUU I WAS WONDERING WHY CLOWNFISH WAS HERE AND I WAS WORRIED IF CLOWNFISH CAUSED THE ABUSE SINCE THEYVE BEEN MY FAVORITE OC SINCE 2020 ☹️

just by the thumbnail i know this is gonna be a masterpiece, all of yonkagor's songs are a masterpiece
shoutout to the period between 2:44 and 3:52 where the screen is raised up slightly
this period of time is when yon explains the impact caused by what happened (from the songs to the forgetfulness), followed by the first half of the chorus
i have no clue if this part was even meant to be highlighted by the raising up of the screen or if it just looked nicer, but yeah

What are you on about? I find no such part? Give me a time where they say that.
Unfortunately this comment is WrongKaGor, they never said that.
I don't know what I came in expecting, but what I got were some of your hardest hitting lyrics. Masterfully crafted. Well done.
The effort put on the animation is mind blowing, this is exactly what goes into my mind when hearing good music and then I make a whole novel price worthy story i can't replicate in real life 😅
I waited 21 hours in a live chat for this and it was worth it
absolutely stunning song, easily the best mv produced, and the lyrics. OUCH. sometimes your songs hit close to home but with the subject matter of this one im really feeling that in a unique way. amazing
This is how you get false memories - theres a little Yon in your mind who accidentally made a mistake.

Well done, you two
2:12 guys more lore in th QR code!
With the blood on the thumbnail we better make sure this doesn't get reported for YonKaGore
Where the references are:
0:09 The silhouette of Selfish (You'll be gone) on the picture.
0:12 Some lanyard with Selfish on it. Possibly some form of identification.
0:10 Clownfish's (Circus Hop) missing poster.
0:15 Convict's (Fallacy) wanted poster
0:22 A wanted poster for Selfish.
0:40 Article (or something like that) on Seadrive (TTTTDBYD) or Selfish again. Also more pictures of Convict, Selfish, and another missing poster for Clownfish.

1:16-1:21 Pictures of Convict, Clownfish's missing poster, and pictures of Selfish fly by in the background.

(Edit: It's a shift cypher)
3:22 There are earlier shots of the video that can be seen burning alongside the other assets.
T-->U
E-->F
S-->T
A-->B
R-->S
O-->P
N-->O
H-->I
Y-->Z
W-->X
.
I will not continue to solve this because it appears to be a simple shift cypher.
How long did it took you to find these clues lol

I think at 1:44 that's Routine not Papercraft but im not sure either
@@notescamilla Yea. It's hard to see which character it is with only a silhouette of the character.
Wait so what does the cypher mean? It just kinda seems like random letters.

SAME. Honestly was a little disappointed when it was dropped immediately but the song is still good
@@Roserain7 they never dropped it. it's still there, just changed the instrument and made it a lot quieter
*TW (mention of SA and abuse)*
This song could mean many things but personally I feel like this could be about SA and a person trying to recover from the horrible experience.
Thanks for reading this little essay of why this song is awesome, I hope you have a great day :]
Edit 1: And by the way, if you didn't know already, SA means sexual assault. And if you still don't know what that is, google it
The song is about dissociative amnesia, being stuck in a loop of wanting to remember and forget the past and the people that hurted them. Speckle most likely suffered abuse from someone else but there's nothing in the song indicating that they suffered SA
Edit: Also, for me the ending isn't a happy one, since they still look distressed and I feel like he's just stuck in a loop of wanting to remember it all again and then wanting to forget it again because of the pain. Also the last time the first verse is repeated of there are much less papers (or memories) pinned to the wall, meaning he forgets more and more about the past each time.
Edit 2: Also that was a very nice theory :)
This is a goddamn banger, thank you Yonkagor!!
