- Honestly our appreciation for Alamat skyrockets every time because wow. This song was amazing both visually and musically. The lyrics as well were so insightful they have us curious to learn more about the culture and history that they are opening our eyes too! If you can please please link us videos because we would love to learn more! This song was truly amazing, as expected of Alamat tho they continue to grow and amaze!

Same reaction when I read Gami's name on the captions. This song is basically a sumary of the dark colonization history of the Philippines. From the Battle of Mactan to the Spanish colonization then the Treaty of Paris. A reaction to the entire album pls.. Heads up, all the songs feel sooo short! We definitely need an exted ver for all the songs. This album is that good!
The thing about Alamat is that they don't shy away from really hard topics. To those who might not know a lot about PH history, their lyricism might come off as too strong esp on this one. To a lot of filipinos this is common knowledge, so this is just pure story telling. Its great that alamat is doing this so the youth would not shy away from history bc there's so much to learn from it.
It might sound like we still harbor ill-thoughts towards Spanish till this day but truth is we really dont. For context, theres no narrative flying around in politics, streets ---i can confidently say--- in thoughts -about any grudge for the Spaniards. We understand that you dont really inherit the sins of your father. Again its just all facts that it happned- pure story telling. Its just important to know history and learn from it.
This song is basically 333 years of Spanish and 50 years of US colonizatio. In less than 3 minutes😅
Gami confirmed that it was him who screamed 😭 and yes you’re right. It is about colonization in the Philippines. The MV shows re-enactments from the moment the Spanish arrived in the Philippines, the Philippine Revolution, and how we were handed off to a new colonizer (American conquerers at the time).

The subtitles are correct. Gami was there when the song was being recorded and was asked to shout to use as a background sound.
Mo and Alas' back and forth verses before Mo's spanish verse were talking about how they won the battle against Spaniards but somehow they still conquered us. Hence the verse is in Spanish and them telling us to pay tax "Well, this is for your sake. Pay your taxes to the City Council".

I think the song and MV was shorter than expected because the song was made as an intro for this Filipino fantasy movie remake, Pedro Penduko.

For the breakdown of Dagundong, I like what ini_si_gwy posted on X.. She was quite thorough in her analysis..
For KASMALA, visual elements did bring history & culture, but the lyrics is quite indirect.. Some interpreted the "girl" in the lyrics to represent the colonizers, & how most Filipinos are still quite beholden by "her".. I recommend Kirby Araullo's video analysis for that one, if you're interested for the breakdown of cultural/historical elements for the MV..

lol well some of us did know about Alamat when they debuted but then had a gap in reacting due to life situations. So we were familiar with Alamat before getting fully into them now while they are 6 ppl.
