The MV is about how we were colonized. Mo & Alas' parts were from the Battle of Mactan, when the Conquistadors first laid foot on our shores, but were driven off by our ancestors. Tomas and Taneo's parts were about the Philippine Revolution, which lasted for roughly 333 years under the Spaniards' colonization. Many of our heroes fought and died during this period. Jao and R-Ji's parts were the Treaty of Paris, in which Spain agreed to sell the Philippines to America under the pretense that they "surrendered to superior forces" and had us believing we attained independence, only for the Americans to be our new oppressors.
Dagundong is basically 333 years of Spanish and 50 years of US colonization in less than 3 minutes.😅. This basically a gist of Philippine History. Alas and Mo = Battle of Mactan (First Battle against Spanish, 1521) Taneo and Tomas = Katipuneros (secret society that led the Philippine Revolution of 1898) Jao and RJi = Filipino diplomats during the US colonization lobbying for Philippine independence / Filipino "Ilustrados", Filipinos who studied in the West that led the propaganda/reform movement during the Spanish era
I agree, the way Alamat is, we could never know what kind of music they will release next. All we could be assured of is they will make the genre their own. 🤎 Looking forward to your reaction to the whole album.
Hi April for the Story line: Alas and Mo represents the tribe of Lapu-lapu who fought Magellan's battalion (1521) when they tried to conquer the Mindanao region. Unfortunately despite that, the Spaniards were able to colonize for more than 3 centuries almost entire Luzon (except the Cordilleras), Visayas and some parts of Mindanao (like Zamboanga). Thomas and Taneo represented the Katipuneros (or the Revolutionarie) who by the death of our National Hero Jose Rizal and by his books urged the Filipinos to fight against the Spanish colonization for Philippine Freedom. Then, Jao and R-Ji represented teh Illustrados because when everyone thought that the Spaniards retreated against the "friendly" Americans later did the Filipinos realized that Spain sold the Philippines to the Americans (Treaty in Paris), thus allowing the Americans to rule over us for 50 yrs or so (the seen where a giant foot is stepping unto them). But Filipinos never gave up and fought for freedom and independence, after the first indenpendence day (June 12, 1898) from the Spaniards came the 2nd one in July 4, 1946. The song seems to be a resounding call for independence, for ownership, for courage and to stand up for who we are... Wars or colonizations may have end but there are still those who are so addicted to power that they are silently working on strategies to take over one's area of responsibility to another. Alamat's Dagundong is that call to always stand up for ourselves and be brave to protect our own.
i knew ur reaction will be like this. that "you did not expect this" from Alamat 😊 (me too) can't imagine they're all rapping hard 😫😭 but anwy, I'm glad u now avoided to say the B* word 😅 (maybe u only say that to SB19) 🤭 ❤ thank u for supporting and loving PPOP ❤
Dagundong - Philippine History Mo & Alas - Datu's (Battle of Mactan) Taneo & Tomas - Katipunero's (Spanish Colonization) R-Ji & Jao - Ilustrado's (Treaty of Paris)
I'm originally not fun of Pop songs-I'm really is when I was 12-14 Kpop. But I starting liking Ppop(which is from my own country), I start liking Sb19 and play their songs 2x each day, but bruh, I repeatedly watch Dagundong 6x just by hearing it for the first time... It literally far exceed my expectations😤
Wait first to unveil more songs in its entirety since there are more songs who that maybe release with MV and definitely more songs in the album has beautiful native choreography like Dayang. Dayang with choreo just hits differently ❤
