I agree with you this accord is great. The guy that made this review is way off. He should’ve made the video about the Civic SI that he mentioned a couple of times. I have this accord coupe and loved driving it every minute.
@@ericcea712I’m looking at this Accord Coupe with the V6 and 6-spd MT. My Civic was totalled just a few weeks ago, so looking at this. Kinda pumped about it! 😃
the automatic and the manual V6 coupes are literally two very different cars. the auto is for someone who wants a car that looks good, drives good, and gets good mpg (vcm). The manual....the manual is a sleeper.
jorge irizarry have you actually driven one in manual before? I’m considering on buying a 2011 manual v6 coupe with a little over 100k miles and wondered if it’s worth looking at..I’ve owned a 2014 civic si and curious to know if it’d be comparable or just a little more power.
All your points are totally valid and you have the same complaints that most had with the 8th Gen. However, if you ever have the opportunity to drive a 9th Gen Coupe (2013+), Honda really made some great improvements. Also to note, the Accord Coupe isn't a hacked-up 2-door Accord. The Coupe has its own wheelbase, body components, basically everything. You'd be surprised how great the Accord Coupe V6 6MT is.
He's comparing it to sports cars. Accords are not meant for that purpose. It's a cruiser. You want sporty get a rear wheel drive and that insurance rate increased lol.
I didn't buy my 2012 Accord V6 coupe because I wanted a sports car. I wanted a fast comfortable stylish grand touring car. Saying the civic is better is just stupid.
Just picked up a 2013 accord coupe v6 ex-l and all I can say is the car is absolutely amazing ! It's fast , handles like it's on rails , roomy and loaded with cool features If you have a chance buy one , you won't regret it
couldnt agree more...the power is great specially on highway...but in backroads it feels floaty..but i still do love it...great car for a college student who wants something with passing power, sexy, spacious, low maintenance, & good mpg
I agree that the car, especially with the 6MT, is a grand tourer. It is designed to enable the driver to obtain high speed cruising at reasonable levels of comfort. The large gas tank comes into that as well, you can cruise at 70 in top gear easily for 450 miles before having to refuel, and overtaking at highway speeds in 5th or 6th gear isn't a chore.
You have to try the manual. With the 8th Gen Accords, the manual has the VTEC J35Z3 vs the automatic's non-VTEC J35Z2 with variable cylinder management. The manual has a much more responsive feel to it than the automatic because of the reduced weight and the 6 speed's short throws as well as the added power of the VTEC J35. It just has so much more to offer than the automatic and I say you must try it out if you can get your hands on one.
They're so rare. I've been waiting years for the right one and this was the best I have found so I decided to jump on it. I would definitely be interested in trying the manual though.
subaruwrxfan Yea that's the problem. They're just so rare that finding one is a difficult task, but if you do find one, it'll come with great reward. I must say, good luck.
TIMP1198 Yup thank you, I was looking for this comment. Just to add to this, the 5-speed auto in this 8th gen has TERRIBLE TERRIBLE drivetrain loss. Compared to the manual that makes like 230 hp+ to the wheels stock, the auto makes under 215 whp and 212 lb/ft wtq AT BEST with a couple bolt ons. Ridiculous power loss through that shitty transmission. Trust me I know. The new 6 speed autos in the 9th gens are infinitely better. Not only is the engine a lot more powerful (pushing 300HP at the crank) but the transmission has less drivetrain loss. It will annihilate an equivalent 8th gen accord auto stock for stock.
TIMP1198 Agreed. The manual 8th gen was actually a lot of fun. I owned a manual K24 8th gen, but got to drive a J35 6 speed and was very surprised by it. I now have a 2015 Mustang GT (manual of course) and it's pretty great, but definite respect to the V6 Accord Coupe.
i feel that you should vary the reviews by the type of car you are reviewing. like what type of market that the car itself fits into. i mean you talk about bolstering and nine and three grip in EVERY review. some cars don't need that and it's getting to the point it's boring. the honda accord isn't a sports car. you should review the car itself as a person who would buy that type of car and market. not every car is a brz, or a mustang we get it.
I just think he should review this car in the context of what it is. It also sounds like he is being affected by the dreary day. I have seen him have enthusiasm for cars that are a lot less sporty than even this car.
I have a V6 six-speed manual. Enjoy the car and a lot and can keep up with a lot of so-called sports car even beat some. It is a good car but 6-speed manuals are hard to find.
The current 9th gen accord feels better since it has a 6-speed automatic but it still feels a bit slow to shift. My biggest gripe with the accord (I currently own the '14 v6 automatic coupe) is VCM. Man that system just loves to take away your cylinders! I enjoy getting the 30+ mpg on the highway but with city driving, VCM likes to drop down to 3 cylinders and you feel like the car just bogs down with no power unless you step on it. My advice...if you want a fun coupe look around for other cars. If you want style and comfort, the 9th gen accord is solid
This is a case of the auto and manual literally being different cars. Autos of this gen have the j35z2 which had variable cylinder management no VTEC . The manuals had the z3 with much larger cam lobes for more grunt
I've driven this same model car a good bit, you need to disable the traction control if you want good power down low in this car. It makes 271 whp in vtec, never had a problem feeling that when I drove one... I thought it was quite the bullet, I totally recommend trying this car for yourself before writing it off.
The Accord coupe is a great car for an adult car enthusiast. Yes, it's a fwd so the handling is blah. But the V6 MT is a joy to drive. Quiet, comfy and solid with far more power than would ever be needed in city driving. You can't compare Challengers and Mustangs because they are meant for a different demographic who might want to go to the track.
It's a great daily. Looks good, runs great and will last forever if taken care of. Sadly mine was totaled in a accident and I had to take a total loss. Broke my heart honestly.
I have a 2008 the same car with everything I paid 36k for mine new I have put over 300k miles on it there is no better affordable coupe out there that I'd want I think your review isn't accurate you're comments on the looks of everything being boring I felt were a little harsh you're not in a bmw you're in a Honda it's not gonna look like a million dollars. I've paid mine off and have not spent one penny other than oil witch I do myself and two timing belts. Best car I will ever buy.
The paddle shifters were a last minute add on for Honda and this 8th gen Accord you can tell !! They only had it for 2012 models because that was the fad that was burning in that time! So you can’t really expect it to be quick shifting whilst being connected to the archaic 5 speed auto... so I feel that point isn’t useable
This car is super awesome. I just got one 6 days ago . I freaking love it is so nice inside beautiful sporty looking. Great power is really fast I got a 2012 Honda Accord EXL coupe 3.5 V6 123000 $5600 bucks the best money I ever ever spend. Freaking love it. Yes is not a Lamborghini or Ferrari don’t expect that
Le Happy Merchant I could not agree more. WRXFAN I am a huuuge fan of your channel and I have a 2014 accord coupe v6 in still night pearl which you cant get in a manual trans (have an 00 s2k for that satisfaction :) ) but the new motor/trans combo is one of the best I have ever driven in its class. I think you would really enjoy it and have a lot of insight for the other viewers! Let me know if you need any info or anything. I am a huge car enthusiast and would love to share any knowledge that I can. Great videos man keep it up!
Thanks man, your review is great. Hauls some ass but very comfortable and roomy, and looks sharp. This helped me in getting myself over the fence in picking one up myself very similar in a few weeks here. Gonna be a big upgrade from my Grand Prix.
same here im picking up a 2012 4 cyl fully loaded in a few days and its gonna be a big upgrade from my 2010 civic with a 1.8L 4 cyl lol cant wait to get behind the wheel of this sexy beast
I have owned a black 2012 accord automatic v6 coupe exactly like this one as a daily driver for 3 years now and I can say I agree with most of what Matt had to say about it. I also learned a lot from his review because he has such a wider perspective on different cars than I do. Here my brief take: Pros: 1. It is very spacious and comfortable in my opinion. It is elegant with a subtle sporty look, which makes it almost Acura material. It has a high-quality feel. 2. It has a wonderful sound system. No complaints there. 3. There is no lack of power. I have to practice restraint 24/7 when driving this car! 4. The car gets me compliments all the time!! Of course, this is biased from my perspective, but it is an attractive-looking car no doubt! Cons: 1. ROAD NOISE!! It is not well insulated from road noise. 2. The 2012 base-trim civic has nicer, more modern-looking display and gauge cluster than this. Its quite sad that the 2012 accord without navi looks so outdated for a $30000 car (when new). 3. The fuel mileage is so-so at about 25mpg average. 4. The paddle shifters are slow. I rarely use them because of that. Overall: Despite its shortcomings, I love this car and keep mine as pristine as when I first bought it. One day though, I definitely plan to upgrade, and for that I will watch more subaruwrxfan videos!! thanks Matt!! :)
if you get a chance review a new accord v6 coupe (2013+). I picked one up a few months a go and its a blast to drive, so many improvements over this. its surprisingly quick too
@@gilsanz3941 I haven’t done it yet I plan on it. I purchased an Alfa Romeo Stelvio and that has been a gem. I still have my accord though. But I do plan on getting a 2012 model maybe next year.
I own a red 4 cylinder one. If you are interested get the one with the manual transmission it changes the character of the car and I would totally recommend
Great video, I was hoping to get this car. Honda accord is noted for its high reliability. I couldnt find any info on whether the coupe is rated more or less than its sedan brother. Does it have the same basic engine and parts??
Matt I'd like to ask, what cars that you've reviewed would you say have comparable speed/power to this Accord? Would you say that some of the turbo hothatches (like a GTI or Fiesta ST) or even the BRZ feel faster and more exciting?
maximus9401 The Accord V6 is faster than all those cars in a straight line. They all get around 6.5-7.0 seconds to get to 60, while the Accord will do 60 in the 5.5-6.0 range. But when it comes to curvy roads or a windy track, it will be left in the dust. Although I'm sure a V6 Accord with some suspension upgrades and summer tires would be pretty damn good for a family car.
rjmari If you're talking about the car in the video, then you've got those figures wrong my friend. This 8th Accord with an Auto (I have owned this car) has really bad numbers. It may feel faster because of the big displacement torque, but the best 0-60 I've gotten is 7 seconds. This thing puts down like 210 HP to the wheels. It's pretty bad. The manual 8th gens and all 9th gens are a completely different story
You know what’s fun about that car v a brz or civic si? What’s fun is when you have a family and you don’t have to worry about civic si insurance prices, fuel costs, maintenance issues including how much they charge you for common things when they see roll in. And then there’s home life when your wife hates your little fun car and getting the kids into it or the weather sucks. That’s when that peppy but boring Honda Accord comes to life and becomes fun. Happy wife=happy life.
If you're stuck on getting the Auto, the 9th generation 2013+ is what you want to get it, even if it costs more, else skip the 8th gen entirely. Several things the 9th generation fixes: biggest is that the V6 has true VTEC (intake only) cam profiles so you get that classic VTEC crossover kick in in both power feel and sound. But more importantly, the lower cam profile provides quite a bit more torque at low to mid range - important in a daily commuter car. The 8th gen auto V6 does not have this at all, just VCM which the 9th gen auto has as well. The trans also has an extra gear in the 9th generation, which helps a bit in acceleration runs. The VCM is also improved in the 9th generation whereby it only goes to 3-cylinder mode instead of 3 OR 4 cylinder mode on the 8th gen, which didn't work too well and was known to cause mounts to fail and other negative effects. VCM was more or less perfected on the 9th gen to be smoother and more bullet proof.
Drive the v6 6spd manual and I guarantee ya your thoughts will change. I owned a 08 v6 6sp mt and no car I've owned afterwards can compete. The 8th gen Accord Coupe v6 MT is a beast!! I'm sorry I love my 10th gen accord sport 2.0t but it doesn't compare.
I have a 2012 honda accord 4cylinder vtec and it's automatic and I've been messing with mine and the more you reduce weight the better it gets add a vortex cold air intake system and it sounds great change the muffler and it sounds even better I love this car and continue to create my tuner they are just hard to find alot of tuner parts for
you gotta get rid of the factory seats and get light weight bucket seat to replace them lighter rims are a plus when doing a weight reduction taking out the stock air intake for an aluminum cold air intake is an upgrade replacing the exhaust with a full straight pipe system to get rid of the heavy cats is also a plus so its just a guessing game on what you want to keep under your hood next lol
@mattmaranmotoring Does anybody knows if they upgraded the V6 engine on the 2012 accords ? 08-10 V6 engine tends to consume oil and have piston ring failures..
You really need to review the 9th gen accord, they put a diet on it and made the outside dimensions a lot smaller than they might suggest. The suspension is stiff, and definitely sporty. I hope to see you review the 9th gen accord with stick
I'm looking at one rn, beautiful looking car, fully loaded just doenst have a v6, it's a l4 but I'm fine with that because it makes spark plug replacement easy and l4s are generally bullet proof and 180 hp is enough for me
Honda screwed up in 2012. Everything after that is better. Like everyone else has said and will say, get in a 6spd V6 Coupe w/ Nav. It's not sports car fun... But it's a nice car for a 30 year old husband/father to commute to/from work with some joy.
i bought my 2012 accord coupe auto with 100k miles in a 4 cyl. i got it bevause it looks amazing way better than the sedan. the gas mileage is great on the 4 cyl and the mods for the car are endless. i may want to step up to a v6 but the k24 engine gives good power and drives smooth enough to make me happy for now. I will always drive a honda. just kind of upset that honda stopped making coupes after 2017 the coupes were the most stylish cars they made. glad I only have around 105k miles on my 2012 coupe that was driven by an old lady before i bought it, i should have many years of fun driving in my honda coupe. the best part is that these cars hold their value so if i do choose to resell it i will get mosy of my money back that i spent on it #HondaForLife
I just bought a 2012 EX-L V6. I agree, it's not a sporting car. I have my GTO for that. I bought it because it's smooth, quiet, reasonably fast and economical. I know this presenter wants exciting, but the Accord has never been that. I've had several Civic and CRX Si's over the last 24 years and those were fantastic cars. the Accords I've had have always been serene quieter vehicles and at my age I'm finally starting to appreciate that.
these coupes are mostly for someone who wants something classy and aggressive looking, its a great car in my opinion, just the interior is a little outdated
+Gary Sanchez I agree. The interior is a bit dated, only ONE USB port? I had a 5 day extended test drive with a manual 2016 EX-L V-6 and it was definitely up to speed with the interior. But, for less than 1/2 the price of that 2016, my 2012 put 16g back in my pocket and my car is 99% as good as the 2016. It was a good deal.
+Robert D. The only thing this car needs on the exterior is some good rims on it, with the interior it's just the audio system but it isn't a major problem, overall the car is a good car from inside out
2 years+ later and I agree there are ergonomic shortcomings. The screen is a seriously low end, low rent display straight from the 90's. Still, I've enjoyed driving it as a daily driver. It's fairly quick and put together fairly well. I'm not in love with it just because of the interior shortcuts. I've had 6 Hondas over the course of the last 26 years and again, on repeat, the interior isn't up to snuff. However, it's been very very reliable, and it seems to be engineered quite well, so that's been a plus. Would I buy another 8th gen coupe again? Only if I could find a 6 speed. I have the auto so my wife can drive it. Unfortunately, there won't be a next one as Honda has stupidly decided to axe the V6 and the coupe.
I smoke 9th gen Accord coupe 6-6's all day in my 08 Accord coupe 6-6! The 8th gen has more torque. Plus the 8th gen has real traditional VTEC, not that i-VTEC Earth Dreams BS! Now I will admit that the 9th gen is fast, but an 8th gen will smoke it by at least a car length or 2.
Drive the 2012 ACCORD V6 HFP (MT), as that IS a sports coupe w/ VTEC, unlike the AT and has about 20+ whp over the Auto. You obviously don't know a lot abt Honda's.
find a manual.... i love my v6 6spd... handles so much better with only upgrading front and rear swaybars! i wanna say the manual is almost a full second faster in the 1/4 mile.... no cylinder deactivation on manuals honda built them with more torque off idle to help launch the car... also the manual has bigger brakes i think and a different steering rack also...
No but sometimes grinds and doesn't want to go into 2nd or 3rd but very sporadic and usually when driven hard.... but have experienced at slower speeds
The coupe really is just the sedan with two doors. This was also the last year before the major refresh so that is why it seems dated. Try to drive the 6-6 sometime. Many people love it.
I own and drive this same car but with the Manual 6 Speed and it is a totally different animal! The automatic does not even have real VTEC, just economy type. The V6 6 Speed is incredible and always puts a smile on everyone's face who is in it! I really feel that Matt is giving an unfair review for this car as a whole since he neglected to do one for the 6 Speed 3.5L V6 of the same model.
You need to review a third gen z/28 or transam one day! The interior visibility is awesome and they are very sleek and have craptons of torque for what they are.
I think the reason people look at this car compared to sports cars is they read that the 0-60 is under 6 seconds so they just get obsessed with numbers.
Owning a manual and an automatic I can tell you, there is a huge difference between the automatic and the manual. You need to get drag tires for the manual and turn off the stability control, then get back to me.
You literally just compared an accord coupe to a Dodge Challenger... what did you expect it to be? They’re two completely different cars. You expected it to be a mustang wtf
This car is for the person who wants a fun-to-drive, cool-looking car that is practical at the same time.IMO it's a pretty good car.

True, but only for the 2012 and lower models. Honda made the automatic a hell of a lot better in 2013 and it is only 0.1s slower at worst in 0-60.

No manual, a lot less fun. But the main theme is the engine, and it doesn’t disappoint. Loved it when the Accord and Altima V6 roamed the streets

Yes is not a Lamborghini or Ferrari don’t expect that
You should review the 2013+ model, it's ALOT different and way more upscale/sportier/faster
Le Happy Merchant I agree. I own one and the interior is a huge improvement over the 2008-2012 model years.
Bro was slurring all over the place 😂
Not ALL '12 Accords have a squeaking seat bud.
I have owned a black 2012 accord automatic v6 coupe exactly like this one as a daily driver for 3 years now and I can say I agree with most of what Matt had to say about it. I also learned a lot from his review because he has such a wider perspective on different cars than I do.
Here my brief take:
Pros:
Cons:
I picked one up a few months a go and its a blast to drive, so many improvements over this. its surprisingly quick too
Love mine and its an auto. Best coupe in an accord built so far but I have not been in a 2016 so that's my opinion.
You should try a manual. Don't forget to deactivate the stability control.
Informative video, I knew from the start that you didn't look to excited about this one!
Thinking about trading in my 08 accord coupe for this exact one .. I have the 4 cyl. And I really wanted the v6
aayonce4 do it you deserve it!
im thinking the same thing. was it worth it?
@@gilsanz3941 I haven’t done it yet I plan on it. I purchased an Alfa Romeo Stelvio and that has been a gem. I still have my accord though. But I do plan on getting a 2012 model maybe next year.
What are you comparing it to? Are you looking for that WOW. Feel?
Wow I wonder if all leather squeaks?
The manual is much much better. That crappy 5spd slows the car down and it doesn't even have Vtec. But great review as always. Keep up the great work.
I really like the front, but not the rear
Joseph M same
Nice vid. keep up the good work
Please reply! Is there a Honda Accord coupe but in 4 cylinders??
FrogFootech yes.
Can you link me a video of it or give me a website link? I can't find it anywhere
Just Google or search UA-cam for it. The engine is a 2.4 liter i4
I own a red 4 cylinder one. If you are interested get the one with the manual transmission it changes the character of the car and I would totally recommend
FrogFootech Yup! I have an 08 4cyl manual. Not the fastest car in the world but the 5 speed makes it feel faster than what it is.
great review man, keep it up!
All the cars you listed felt more exciting and faster than the Accord did.
wow even the BRZ eh? That's a shame for a V6 coupe
I used to have a 2010 Accord Coupe Manual V6. Beat STI's and 350z's. I was bone stock STI had mods.
maximus9401 The Accord V6 is faster than all those cars in a straight line.
Those are so nice
Keep up the vids man
You know what’s fun about that car v a brz or civic si? What’s fun is when you have a family and you don’t have to worry about civic si insurance prices, fuel costs, maintenance issues including how much they charge you for common things when they see roll in. And then there’s home life when your wife hates your little fun car and getting the kids into it or the weather sucks. That’s when that peppy but boring Honda Accord comes to life and becomes fun. Happy wife=happy life.
Hey matt, do you think that the 2015 honda accord sport (4 door) is better than the v6 coupe?
Que bella maquina el Honda Accord V6 impecable..lo mejor .potente. grande y elegante .Gracias Honda !!!!!saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷.
I love your intros
Question. I have a 2012 sedan can i add the full front face bumper from this one to my sedan
Maybe try the Manual version. I hear a lot of people say that it is fun.
had this car for 4 years, this is not a car to tinker with because everything just works well. It's a car you don't have to worry about.
I have a 2012 honda accord 4cylinder vtec and it's automatic and I've been messing with mine and the more you reduce weight the better it gets add a vortex cold air intake system and it sounds great change the muffler and it sounds even better I love this car and continue to create my tuner they are just hard to find alot of tuner parts for
What did u do to reduce weight ?
you gotta get rid of the factory seats and get light weight bucket seat to replace them lighter rims are a plus when doing a weight reduction taking out the stock air intake for an aluminum cold air intake is an upgrade replacing the exhaust with a full straight pipe system to get rid of the heavy cats is also a plus so its just a guessing game on what you want to keep under your hood next lol
I'm looking at one rn, beautiful looking car, fully loaded just doenst have a v6, it's a l4 but I'm fine with that because it makes spark plug replacement easy and l4s are generally bullet proof and 180 hp is enough for me
190 actually lol
Yes--you are missing something. The manual transmission. Its is the heart of the v6 cope and transforms this car.
STILL CAN'T CATCH THA 9TH GEN
I smoke 9th gen Accord coupe 6-6's all day in my 08 Accord coupe 6-6! The 8th gen has more torque. Plus the 8th gen has real traditional VTEC, not that i-VTEC Earth Dreams BS! Now I will admit that the 9th gen is fast, but an 8th gen will smoke it by at least a car length or 2.
get the manual and you have good sleeper car.
Nice review again Matt!
Drive the 2012 ACCORD V6 HFP (MT), as that IS a sports coupe w/ VTEC, unlike the AT and has about 20+ whp over the Auto.
You obviously don't know a lot abt Honda's.
They completely changed the car for 2013 and it's completely different so you should review that one.
what is the toyota on 00:05 ??
find a manual.... i love my v6 6spd... handles so much better with only upgrading front and rear swaybars! i wanna say the manual is almost a full second faster in the 1/4 mile.... no cylinder deactivation on manuals honda built them with more torque off idle to help launch the car... also the manual has bigger brakes i think and a different steering rack also...
different starter as well. does your shifter pop out of gear?
No but sometimes grinds and doesn't want to go into 2nd or 3rd but very sporadic and usually when driven hard.... but have experienced at slower speeds
I wanted a 2013 V6 Coupe for a while but ended up passing on it once I realized you can get a lot more for your money elsewhere.
I drove the manual inline 4 2014. It's not a sports car but the sound is so fucking good.
hey Matt , its time to review a 1997-2000 Honda Prelude , so u can experience the full Honda line up and compare them
Dude you're driving a used car and you're complaining about it of course it's going to be flaws it's not new!
The 7th gen accord sedan/coupe is much tighter feeling
can you make a review from the honda accord 2.4 type s 2012 please?
Hi ! could u review the altima coupe v6 manual? is pretty much the competence of this accord coupe, thnks!!
Could you change the car Intro from "this is of course the ____________" it would be a nice change. Other than that keep it up!!
Try the 2015 Accord Coupe, believe me big difference.
The coupe really is just the sedan with two doors. This was also the last year before the major refresh so that is why it seems dated. Try to drive the 6-6 sometime. Many people love it.
Love your reviews. I am in the market for a pre owned car and would love a Maxima and Camry V6 SE review
how can you like such a debby downer. this is a great car and he makes it seem like its a piece of crap lol
I agree!
The vehicle is it yours if I may ask?
how much do these cars run in price?
2016 brand new around 30k
+M O O Z I F Y perfect price
I think the reason people look at this car compared to sports cars is they read that the 0-60 is under 6 seconds so they just get obsessed with numbers.
You should do a newer Scion tC. I would love to see what you thought about it.
Name of song in the beginning?
Owning a manual and an automatic I can tell you, there is a huge difference between the automatic and the manual. You need to get drag tires for the manual and turn off the stability control, then get back to me.
How do you get to review these cars
The knew alfa Romeo giulia was just revealed and I have to say, it looks pretty nice. What does it compete with
You literally just compared an accord coupe to a Dodge Challenger... what did you expect it to be? They’re two completely different cars. You expected it to be a mustang wtf
Exactly!!! Homie expected hellcat performance 😭
You have to review 2015 one with the manual. THAT is a fun car
