Wouldn’t it be smarter to say that your designed like that because you were born via a normal pony and griffin becoming a hybrid, while the hippogriffs haves evolved for generations to look that way?

I hated Harry Potter fans for a long time because I loved reading mythology books and everyone assumed I was stealing stuff from Harry Potter. Because so many people assumed not just the hippogriff but a lot of lore came from it first.
The only reason Gallus was colored more bright than the other Griffins was because Hasbro wanted a more eye-catching color for a character who was going to be important and often seen.
G4 really does have a sense of epicness. Equestria feels like a legit country with millions of inhabitants and you have all the different vassal states like the Crystal empire and the various non-pony nations.

This was a very helpful video, I'm actually writing a story involving alot of mythos. So this was actually a good first stop for my research into griffins and hippogriffs. Plus it's a SilverQuill video, always entertaining
I've always held a headcannon that after the Idol was lost, various Griffon(Gryphon?) tribes left the kingdom and started competing against eachother for the title of successor kingdom. And one of these kingdoms contain the last remnants of the Grover/Guto line. At the time of the show's finale, this conflict between the nations has mostly settled down, with prince Grover VIII on the throne of one of them. It's probably never going to happen, but it would be interesting if for the next generation they did go properly beyond Equestria. Maybe have some episodes be Equestria based, then some episodes from other nations
My headcanon is a little darker. That the gryphon's are violent and selfish by nature and that when the idol was gone they started to fight amongst themselves for leadership. However because of their selfishness no one could climb to the top because as soon as they would start to get ahead they would either but betrayed by one of their own or their enemies would unite against them. this went on until finally almost out of pity Celestia just took over the region. With the entire kingdom in ruins and revaged by endless wars most gryphon's had lost all pride and didn't resist her. Welcoming Celestia's order to put an end to the violence. Eventually, with equestrian might peace did come and after a while the troops retreated. Gryphonstone was promoted from a province to a vassal state. They have regained some level of their pride and not somewhat resent ponies but have no wish to leave equestria has they know the violence that happened.
I want to add about Gallus... he's the element of magic (as we saw him shining purple with the Tree), ment to represent that spark that you can't describe that makes you realize you have a friend. He's the embodyment of all those things you can't explain about friendship but you know are true, he's conected with the idea of bonding with others itself. ...also, his name means "chicken", it has nothing to do with anything, I just wanted to point that out.

Griphons are mostly a combination of majestic animals. They are not based on protoceratops since those did not live in Europe. They didn't even live in China at the time since the Gobi desert would not become part of China until the Ming dynasty. The Cyclops is based on ancient creatures though but they are based on mammoth which did live in Europe. Mammoths had very small eyes and no real clear eye sockets. However they did have a massive oval shaped hole in the middle of their skull where the trunk attaches.
I always theorised that Grandpa Gruff was King Guto, after losing the idol he either stepped down or was fired from being king and lived the rest of his life in miserable self-loathing for being responsible for the griffons fall from grace.

She's too old like the CMC. If she tried, she would also have been a tutor. As for the contradicting points regarding Grampa Gruff's treatment of Gallus, maybe he thinks all the letters by Gallus delivered by Gabby is enough. He didn't see the need for a parent-teacher meeting as he technically knows everything there is to know and coming over would just be a waste of time. As for why Hippogriffs never helped in the 2017 movie, they got cut out because apparently the writers didn't think that the spotlight on the Mane 6 was already big enough and would think they would "taken the focus from the Mane 6". That's an actual quote from "The Art of My Little Pony: The Movie" book, by the way. So much for friendship. We could have gotten the MLP version of the Ride of the Rohirrim. You can also use that quote to pretty much explain why anyone that is supposed competent suddenly gets hit with the Worf Effect with little to no build-up. Gods and armies are no match for the almighty authority of the Main Character.
In the movie when Twilight thought Celestia meant Hippopotamus when she couldn't finish the word when she was talking to Luna is really insulting to her character being that she is intelligent and very well read so she would no doubt known what a hippogriff is

Which is something that can be said as a good reason for why the young six were never given anything like the elements of harmony. Having something like a necklace with a gem on it that represents whatever element he follows could very well of undermined things as just being another bobble to worship. Another thing to think about is when looking into the aspects of the Griffin it becomes even more of a fantastic outcome when you consider Gilda’s best friend was a pony. The very thing that mythological books say they eat. And finally Gabby Very well might be an outlier but so was thorax and he ended up taking over the changeling hive. Wouldn’t that be interesting if grandpa gruff thanks to his old age was aware of more things than we are made privy to. Like Gaby is shown with Gruff in the hearthswarming episode so he could very well be trying to groom her to be the next ruler of the Griffin kingdom. Just a thought there.

I think one other thing that Gabby had working against her is that she is an exceedingly competent griffon, capable of learning, if not mastering, nearly any task or skill put in front of her. That can make it very hard for Gabby to relate to others, and for others to relate to her. And this goes double for a society like Griffinstone, which was stuck in a cycle of apathy and self-loathing, which would make the griffins want to turn away from someone like Gabby who has everything they believe they don't have. This is no fault of Gabby herself, but it does make her less of an example of what griffins can achieve with a bit of hard work and friends.
It would have been a fun shout out to Deep Space 9 if the MLP staff had given Griffins a set of rules they associate when interacting with obtaining wealth or currency, much like how the Ferengi had over 268 rules of Aquisition. I also bring this up because i recognize some similarities between Gallus and Nog, both come from a race well known for placing importance and value on materialistic objects, griffins to gold ferengi to latnum, but both went beyond that and grew to be more than what others of their race have been assocoated with, Gallus became a royal guard to Twilight and Nog became Captain within Starfleet. Both also have relatives, blood related or otherwise, who have been known for being hard to get along with, Grandpa Gruff for Gallus and Quark for Nog

Being part gryphon myself, I must give a thumbs up. Odd since I have paws... Also, I never knew vigilance was a common trait to gryphons. I had given the ones in my own universe that trait simply because they have great eyesight and can see long distances, so I figured they would value a thing like that.
While I am team griffon, I'd totally be down for being one of the hippogryphs from WoW, they have pretty colors and a sick-ass pair of antlers. Also thank you for reminding that The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone exists, I LOVE that episode, I'm gonna go watch it now.
Oh, Team Griffin, definitely. Mostly because one of my favorite characters is one. Skandranon, the Black Gryphon. He’s a special forces soldier/mage who fights against his world’s Nazi-equivalents. Of course by the end of his first book he kinda accidentally made a kaboom so big it almost destroyed everything... and due the nature of the boom it managed to echo back thousands of years later to threaten everything again. So yes, you CAN make something explode twice!
No matter how many times I watch this, I still enjoy it. Plus, it gave me the idea of hooking Lightning Bliss and Silverquill together. I know some may disagree but that's okay, I would love to know other ideas.

I think one other thing that Gabby had working against her is that she is an exceedingly competent griffon, capable of learning, if not mastering, nearly any task or skill put in front of her. That can make it very hard for Gabby to relate to others, and for others to relate to her. And this goes double for a society like Griffinstone, which was stuck in a cycle of apathy and self-loathing, which would make the griffins want to turn away from someone like Gabby who has everything they believe they don't have. This is no fault of Gabby herself, but it does make her less of an example of what griffins can achieve with a bit of hard work and friends.

It would have been a fun shout out to Deep Space 9 if the MLP staff had given Griffins a set of rules they associate when interacting with obtaining wealth or currency, much like how the Ferengi had over 268 rules of Aquisition.
I also bring this up because i recognize some similarities between Gallus and Nog, both come from a race well known for placing importance and value on materialistic objects, griffins to gold ferengi to latnum, but both went beyond that and grew to be more than what others of their race have been assocoated with, Gallus became a royal guard to Twilight and Nog became Captain within Starfleet.
Both also have relatives, blood related or otherwise, who have been known for being hard to get along with, Grandpa Gruff for Gallus and Quark for Nog
I have made oc's of both and I can say Gabby is my fave griff on the show and SilverStream is just the cutiest and I also ship her and gallus

Symbols change with the times. Gryphons look really cool without being scary so you can make of that what you want.

Also, I never knew vigilance was a common trait to gryphons. I had given the ones in my own universe that trait simply because they have great eyesight and can see long distances, so I figured they would value a thing like that.

Oh, Team Griffin, definitely. Mostly because one of my favorite characters is one. Skandranon, the Black Gryphon. He’s a special forces soldier/mage who fights against his world’s Nazi-equivalents. Of course by the end of his first book he kinda accidentally made a kaboom so big it almost destroyed everything... and due the nature of the boom it managed to echo back thousands of years later to threaten everything again.
So yes, you CAN make something explode twice!

@@MLPSilverQuill mhm. ^^ the idea is that it's a hero of multiple factions, like how the Griffon is a hybrid monster itself.
I also like two other griffin offshoots the Keythong and the Opinicus. Keythong lack wings but have spikes along their backs while the Opinicus also are missing wings but have a long giraffe like neck.
