I retired to the Lake Chapala area of Mexico almost a year and a half ago, and I love it here. The culture, the friendliness of the people, the sense of community, the quality of the fresh food and the quality of life in general is unsurpassed. As a single woman, I always use common sense, but I have never felt unsafe here, unlike in the States. This move has afforded me a lower cost of living and more resources to pursue my passion of travel. Great video guys. Hopefully, you'll visit this neck of the woods sometime. 🙂
My dad was in Ajijic 28 years ago. I wish they would have kept their house. Do you find real estate in the area to have come pretty near the prices in the USA?

My dad built a house in Lake Chapala about 28 years ago. Sadly they didn’t keep it. I’ve enjoyed visiting them and a few years ago. It’s gotten far more busy lately. Ajijic was their home area. If I could convince the wife, we would be there ourselves.
I know you have really enjoyed your time in Mexico. I know someone who retired from the US to Cabo. I don't think his expenses are much less than the US, but he really likes the weather, the conveniences of stores like Home Depot, and being by the water.
Thanks for sharing. Probably the higher the number of expats, the higher the prices. Yes, we had a great time in Mexico and see it as a great place to spend a month or two in the winters as we age. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/

I love 🇲🇽 and have been there literally dozens of times, but only for short stays. As a resident, don’t the broken and unusual sidewalks and the unfinished and abandoned buildings bother you ?
Hi. I love your series. Can u tell me what you use to get your international health insurance for each country? Does it change for 65 yr olds? Thank you.
Thanks so much. We currently carry US based retiree health care. We have paid out of pocket when overseas, but the costs are so much lower than in the US. We keep this expensive coverage in the US because if we were to have a serious illness, we would want to return and be near our kids. We are currently 60 and this will change when we reach Medicare age of 65. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/

Hola! I have friends who have lived here for years on just a Tourist Permit. I have a couple of friends who came down together and never left or even bothered to get a new FMM when theirs expired after 180 days. They were both illegal for about five years and when they went back to the US for one of their parents funeral they were given a new FMM for another 180 days and each paid a fine of less than $50.00us for not renewing their tourist visas for over 5 years. They are finally going to go through the RNE program that doesn't require them to prove the economic solvency requirements for their Resident Visas. Buena suerte con eso!
After 12years years we are moving back to the United States Mexico has gotten very expensive now and the new government is very scary now be careful things are changing in Mexico. This is not a good time to move to Mexico it's not safe right now
Nowadays only the very wealthy can afford to retire in Mexico as the Mexican government has increased the monthly income requirements more and more. However, there are plenty of other countries in Latin America which are much more welcoming than Mexico.
The current requirement for temporary residency is either a monthly income of $4,350 or savings/investments of $73,200 (at 17 MX pesos per US $). As noted in the video one can live quite comfortably on $30K - $40K US annually. I’d hardly call that “very wealthy”.
