Surprisingly this guy made sense to me. We’re Mexicans living in the U.S. for the past 45+ yrs getting ready to retire in MX & my husband who was born & raised in MX City wants some of our furniture to come with us. He also has his 70’s music collection & his stereo, turntable, his classic car collection, etc to come with us. I told him it would be impossible to get everything moved to Mexico & would need to begin selling things soon. Now this guy makes me realize, not so. I have an amazing king size mattress that I’d love to take with us that’s only 2 yrs old. My couches are sooo comfortable too. Wow, I never thought it would be possible. I’m going to pursue this possibility!
Tips for people who love to cook! This is stuff you can probably find in Mexico City -- but anywhere else, not so much. Bring the best chefs knives you can afford. You won't find them easily. High end electric hand mixer. If you are from the U.S., buy and bring the fridge magnets with all the metric conversions -- grams, liters, etc. Bring your hardbound copies of the Joy of Cooking and Mastering the Art... Buy and bring "Authentic Mexican" by Rick Bayless. Bonus tip: Find the place in your Mexican home town that sells the heavy comals; get two.
A comal is basically like a flat round cast-iron pan that doesn’t really have big edges to it it’s not a deep pan it’s actually a flat thing many people use for heating or making tortillas you can also use it to make quesadillas.
That’s a really good suggestion about bringing English language cookbooks that you like. I highly recommend bringing some vegetarian cookbooks even if you’re not vegetarian they have great recipes for different salads, side dishes and things that you can make with or without dairy, chicken broth etc. as far as Mexican food cookbooks you should definitely bring a few cookbooks by Diane Kennedy, she was a legend, lived much of her life in Mexico and had a cooking school and put out several cookbooks. I definitely agree that a copy of the Joey of cooking is absolutely essential. Yes converting recipes from standard to metric is a good thing to learn how to do and there are some handy charts and I’m sure there are iPhone apps that you can also use to convert to metric. Also when you find things like a cake mix in Mexico Netherlands in Spanish but it won’t be in metric so you’ll need to translate that or just learn metric measurements Another thing to keep in mind when doing baking in Mexico is that things may be affected by humidity or by the elevation that you were at and you’ll need to adjust the recipe in that way. You also might need to adjust recipes depending on what sweetener you were using if not using team sugar you may have to use honey or agave syrup which measure in different quantities them the granulated sugar. You can find lots of great cooking utensils in Mexico but if you can afford to buy things from Sur La Table and other chain stores like Macy’s, target and such there may be kitchen gadgets that you can’t buy in Mexico. You may also have a favorite type of coffee pot or French press that you prefer, you’ll want to buy that in the US can be very expensive to buy one a good quality in Mexico. You can buy them at some of the Starbucks in Mexico as well at things like Costco and Sam’s Club if there is one in the city you are living in. I’ve lived in Mexico for six months at a time so I was setting up to help temporary lodging either in a small apartment or a small house and the thing I always make sure to bring with me with certain spices and ingredients that I couldn’t get in Mexico for example if you’d like making Thai food or Indian food you might want to bring a few different curry powders with you. You’ll find most of the ingredients for making traditional Thai food in Mexico all of the basics like cilantro rice, ponds chicken etc. you’ll even be able to find ginger root. You can also buy lemongrass tea in Mexico and teabags and simply cut open the teabag and use some of that as your ingredient for lemongrass though it’s better to use aromatic lemongrass. Another thing you’d want to bring with you if you’re making Thai food in Mexico us to bring some of the galanga root powder and dry lime leaves(The ones from Thailand are very different than wind leaves in Mexico.)
I have VERY expensive cookware, Scan Pan and Le Creuset, my 2 Vitamix blenders and other stuff. Thousands of $$ I paid and Im NOT going to part with it. I could never sell it and replace it for what I would end up selling it for. IDK. I soooo dread trying to bring my cookware into Mexico. The minute they try to make me pay import tax's Im leaving and maybe try another day. I know people say they wont on used stuff..Uh, that is NOT true. Make sure if you decide to drive it over that you take it out of the original box. Why? That might signal to the customs/immigration agent that you are going to sell it. $300 goods if flying in and $500 if driving in. That is the law but.. Curious why is furniture and mattress made in Mexico so uncomfortable? I have definitely herd before to bring your mattress if you can.
We moved full time 4 years ago to Bucerias in the Riviera Nayarit. We brought our clothes and dinner and kitchenware and computers, not much else. Everything else we have bought what we wanted here in this area since it close to many large Supermarketsand several Malls and a Costco and a Sam's and Walmarts. If we can't find anything we really want locally at the many places, there's always Amazon. We even sold our Texas plated Toyota for more than we could have gotten for it back in Texas and bought a brand new Mazda. Life has been good.

Also love conpanies that give helpful free info if they feel you dont need their service rather than try to sell you. I then recommend those companies to people I feel could use their service.
Realtor here.... the nightmares I hear and have seen about moving across the US would scare you! I absolutely never recommend moving companies to clients. It sounds like Chuck really knows his business and if you're dealing with someone that starts a business out of seeing a need, that's the best businesses. It's been almost 20 years since I moved with a moving company, but I've moved a number of times and never had a bad experience. I guess I've been lucky.
I shipped all my stuff from San Diego, through a freight forwarder in Nogales to SanCarlos, Guaymas. Couldn't have been easier... They did it all!!! At the time I had a FM-3.

Haha - people on facebook with the completely wrong information! So helpful to know that we may not save a thing by getting rid of a bunch of our stuff. Don't use consolidators who load a lot of peoples things into one truck. Bring mattresses, lazyboys, couches, etc as our furniture is far more comfortable! Either drive your own used furniture, etc across the border, or hire an experienced professional international mover, insured! Thank you Chuck:)
I been looking for a video like this, but also i will appreciatea video for mexican people living in the US and wanted to move back to Mexico. Legally. On another end, I have a friend who's from Canada, sold absolutely everything! Drove himself, with with wife his dogs clothes and a guitar. He live very confortable in Colima now, but he mentioned he didn't know there's things that are almost the same price than buying them in Canada or the states. So yes, you will loose money selling your stuff, but he have more peace of mind in another country abd happy. Thank you

Yeah the furniture shopping one is going to be a banger. Definitely try sitting in all the sofas and see which one is the most comfortable and maybe take a bunch of pictures of it and where it is. Maybe pin it on google maps so I can find -- I mean so you can find it later.
Very good to know. (VERY). As far as it goes for me I think you make lists or piles of "Stuff". Can't leave without it. Need it. Want it. Or leave it for relatives, friends, donate and or give it away. Then go through it a few more times as you try to weed it out to what you really, really want or truly need. Then decide if you need a small utility trailer or a whole moving van. This will allow you to decide if you need the experienced mover or not. Well it sounds like we need our recliners and beds. Some clothes maybe jewelry and some Art but not a Garfunkel that would be cruel. Likely not my heavy insulated boots, gloves lawn mower or snow plow. But then I'd want my welding "stuff" maybe my small boat. And of course the dog "stuff". @@davebaker489 Oh welding supplies! I learned to weld once and it's the best skill. But I never welded a second time and now I have a welder guy in Mexico that builds stuff for me. As to Kat - she brings plant stuff, coffee (she's very particular,) lots of very specific food (like Indian spices,) various decorations she finds at Goodwill. Kitchen gadgets...

So much great information! I think if you go into the moving process with the understanding that Movers are people and people make mistakes you'll be okay. Long distance moves are complicated and things sometimes get lost or broken. Most of the times these things are not intentional. When we moved from Seatte to Nashville we discovered our Christmas stuff never made it but didn't realize it until a few month later when we went to put it up. During the unload we found our stuff in someone else's kayak that they unloaded into our garage. We had to tell them the items inside we ours but the kayak was not. It's just the nature of the game. We are partly to blame because we chose not to check off everysingle item as it was unloaded. This slows it way down and is tedious but its partly why were are to blame. Thanks for sharing your story. I think mistakes are bound to happen, but can be minimized by the movers. Of course, those changes to the process can be expensive... The kayak part is crazy - how did that happen?
Great video! This is something I've been hemming and hawing over for a while now. I could survive and thrive with my CD collection, stereo and musical instruments -- that's what really matters to me. But I also want to be comfortable and I spent weeks finding the most comfortable sofa I could. After watching this maybe it makes sense to move that sofa down as well. But that's the breakpoint between just taking stuff in my car and hiring a mover. At that point I might as well take my bed and nightstand and and and
I'm a quadriplegic moving down from Ontario in the next couple months I was going to drive down with a small trailer on the back of my van mostly just personal supplies wheelchair and some camera equipment

The quality things you love, bring it. I got rid of most of our things. Many things I got rid of I regret because the quality is not the same here. If in question, keep it in a storage unit for a year in the states and think about it. You don’t know till you here
One of your best videos so far! You truly understand the art of the interview. I actually wanted this interview to last much longer but I’m sure you have a certain format that you use for each episode here on UA-cam, I’m not a UA-cam content producer so I don’t know what your limitations are. To me it seems like the interview could easily be a two or three part interview. So many details not really covered like how many things people can bring in duty-free for example you’re allowed to do one move that includes one washer, one dryer, one stove, one refrigerator etc. how much about the same and bring and you might be moving to a part of Mexico where you’d prefer to use a clothesline and you could buy a local washing machine. I didn’t hear any mention of that at the border the first people you encountered now are not Mexican customs agents, instead you encounter the Mexican national guard. I don’t know how well-versed they are and knowledgeable of current laws on importation. I’m sure when you declare what you have with you than they know whether to send you to an office to declare those things and pay import duty etc. Also wondered if the shipper takes every precaution which they should do for example making sure that the people shipping stuff into Mexico have not stopped any of the furniture full of large amounts of cash, just as an example. As we all know you’re supposed to declare anything more than $10,000 cash. I’m sure the shippers want to go through everything in great detail to make sure everything complies with Mexican laws look for quantity and value of the items and of course whether they are legally allowed which would include whether there are firearms, fireworks, animals, animal products, certain antiquities that may be protected by international laws etc. I haven’t checked the list of Mexican customs items what they are allowing and in what quantity. I recall years ago you could only bring 20 phonograph records in to Mexico. That also translated directly to being 20 cassette tapes or 20 CDs. I don’t know how that is and if it has been relaxed or you pay 50 cents Duty for each additional music recording. Perhaps that has changed a lot over the years. On a slightly related subject I have met music DJs from the United States who are going into Mexico to play at parties, or big concert events or even on broadcast radio. Years ago they would be temporarily importing their musical equipment and two or three crates of record albums. Then that became a few suitcases of CDs and nowadays they are more likely to just cross the border with a few thumb drives caring that much music, so they simply attach it to a keychain and it’s not some thing they even need to declare. My situation is that I want to eventually move by extensive record collection to Mexico, numbering in the thousands of records mostly Latin and jazz music. I want to get it into Mexico legally and hopefully not have to pay a huge amount of fees for importing them. Wondering how about law has changed. If the record albums are for personal use and not for broadcast or for reselling in Mexico I should think it would be a pretty easy thing. Wondering if any of one reading this has had experience importing their own collection whether it’s hundreds of books or their collection of dolls or glassware or tools. I guess maybe there is some kind of a list people can look at to get a general idea of what is allowed and what the possible duty might be based on pennies per dollar or something? Although I’d like to try shipping some items with best Mexico movers, I’d also like to do some smaller scale where I bring the items into Mexico and hire a licensed legitimate trucking company to haul my items. As I recall there are places in most Mexican border cities called paqueterías, meaning that they haul packages. Many of them. From the border to major Mexican cities as well to major cities in Guatemala El Salvador and other countries. Many of these places have flat rate boxes, similar to what we have in the US postal system with the flat rate priority mail boxes, as they say “if it fits it ships“ meaning that whether it’s 20 pounds of clothes or 200 pounds of books that if they fit in a certain size box you pay that one flat fee. They apparently divide their trucks up into square footage and they figure out what they will make by filling an entire truck with the same size square boxes etc. Wondering if anyone has experience with this. I know that if I were to ship my boxes of phonograph records to a major city in Mexico that I would plan on meeting the shipment there or finding a shipping company that will store it for up to a few weeks until I get there. I sure don’t want to reinvent the moving and shipping wheel and can understand why such a service as best Mexico movers is a good method and as he states in the interview… If you compared the final cost it can actually be cheaper to use a mover and doing it yourself, and certainly you don’t want to hire your gardener or his cousin‘s neighbor to do the move for you. Thanks again for this great video I hope you’ll consider doing a part two and even a part three since there will be so many questions and comments from your viewers that it might serve all parties very well to extend the interview beyond the 45 minute length.
Speaking personally, I'd be more than happy to pay 50 cents per CD to bring my collection across. I think you need to look into the Menaje de Casa more and see if that would cover bringing your collection in. The issue I think is they have no proof you aren't going to resell them or die and leave them to someone who will resell them. I have the same issue with my DVD collection, I have many complete series of TV shows sitting here. Not sure if I want to bother bringing them across, I could just digitize them but man that's a lot of work.
@@CallowG I think you just have to get creative, I think we have to keep in mind that the customs agents from Mexico probably watch a lot of UA-cam and so any little tricks we tell on here might get filtered through and they will close up those existing loopholes in the system. That said, with box sets of a series you might gift wrap them and state that they are gifts and they might charge you 25 cents per disk so a box set of eight discs would be two dollars but certainly worth it. I buy a lot of Music CDs swap meet in yard sale and they usually have price stickers on them stating “25-cents”. I leave both stickers on any but I paid more for I scrape those off them when they’re all in our box or luggage together it’s just assumed that they all cost that much each. If they want to charge me 50% import duty then that’s only 12 1/2 cents each. Show me it’s totally worth it it really just depends on how are you into Mexico what time is it in or is it Cetera if the customs agents are near having a shift change they don’t want to add to more paperwork for them to do and they’re more likely to listen through. I think because of UA-cam, Spotify, so many different music sites, most people in Mexico are downloading music and if they’re even wanting CD desks they just burn them on to a desk so I think it’s become less of an issue. I definitely never been to Mexico with a homemade DVD or CD because that could be considered bootleg or counterfeit or pirate copy. They are very tough on that in Mexico. I recommend to never ever buy a pirate DVD in Mexico or a music CD, not worth getting caught with it and besides most of those are made on laptops and scratch easily and then they’re pretty worthless.
Do people ever buy a shipping container and ship via semi-truck, or ship from port-to-port? If I moved to Mexico and had the room for it, I would want to keep the container for a shop/storage...in a perfect world (huge DIY'er).
I know everyone’s situation is different. The rules and regulations are different depending on where you’re moving to. This video was somewhat helpful..very generic as he didn’t want to give away a lot of his methods. I think it’s always best to get at least 2 to no more than 3 estimates after doing a lot of homework. It would of helped if he did a scenario based…here’s how my company handled a move for XYZ who was moving to Merida. With strong disclaimers that this is just an example and related costs.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. After the recent 3 presidential elections here in the US, I see our country drifting farther away from the country I grew up with. We are not going back. That's the Mexico way, can be a different answer each time. Even with getting my permanent residency each consulate is different. Boston consulate had completely different responses from Philadelphia consulate. Nothing is "standardized:.
So true! Qroo Paul did a video on the minimum $$ you needed in the bank to get residency at different consulates and it was crazy how different the numbers were. You're right - nothing in Mexico is standardized!
Grateful for this info since it is major on my mind. When I tried to do some research, it said you cannot take fine art into Mexico? Does that mean all the art --most of it under $500 a piece is taboo? I am a former teacher and writer and have a LOT of books. I probably can drive 15 boxes over the border (of just books) in my car... so my main question is the art. I looked into shipping to Costa Rica via barge and it seemed less than $5000 from Florida. I am afraid to find out what it would be to move just one or two bedrooms and my kitchen set. Plus the ART! and books. I am applying for Residency soon.

I pressure can meats and dehydrate vegetable foods stored in half gallon sealed jars for personal use. Can those items cross to mexico??? Like a lot 100 cases or so?? Or a few at a time???? Prepper type stuff. Important to me. I'm seriously does anyone kno?????
That's a tough call. I'm guessing you couldn't move it legally. Meat isn't supposed to cross, same with most plant material. They don't even want dog food that is made from beef going south. I think your best bet would be to contact a import agent and ask for their help. My biggest worry is that the border agents would want to open the cans to make sure there wasn't drugs / guns / alcohol in them. You could probably pack a few at a time driving south - they don't often check. But it's a risk.

The move to Mexico. I moved to Ensenada back in 2005. I have a 1997 Chevy pick up I would load my truck and I have a flat bed trailer with rails on the side. There in SanYsidro. They charged me $250.00 per trip I did 5 trips. I thought it was cheap. The moving trucks was going to charge me $5000. Dollars. So I did it my way. And yes I still have my house there in Ensenada. But I just wanted to say. How I did it And I was ok with it. I moved from San Bernardino to Ensenada. If I was going any farther, I was going to need some other paper work. ?????
Hello! A few years ago we were thinking about moving to Mexico, but they didn’t take birds, and we have a Goffin Cockatoo. I recently checked the pet requirements and now it says they are accepting birds. Do you know of anyone who has brought their parrot to Mexico and how was the process? I checked CITES and Goffin Cockatoos are not native to Mexico. And we would be driving along with our 2 small dogs.
So, Im a single mom, Im definitely a minimalist. My son and I have traveled in the USA for months at a time in a campervan. We have three cats. We live on Disability. Which isnt alot in the USA. I am also of Mexican decent and regarding the political environment, Im thinking of moving to Mexico. Can you give me any advice? I homeschool as well.
The key will be your Mexican ancestry. Being on disability, you wouldn't qualify for residency. But you can qualify for citizenship with your ancestry. I'd get started on that because the political environment seems to be getting worse by the day up in the US.
Is I speak to you I do have experience helping move from Canada all the way down to we crossed in eagle pass Texas with one SUV full of mainly stuff to keep you comfortable Big ticket items like washer and and dryers are considered tangibles durables spoons sports knives blankets clothes are also considered small ticket items

It was an amazing trip it started with love we fell in love on the beach of Mazatlan Sinaloa Mexico within 90 days of our meeting we were both in Mexico on the way down the first night was in Washington Spokane the next night was in Wyoming Cheyenne then Colorado ,,West Texas San Antonio for 2 days then we crossed and we went to torion couhuila then Mazatlan
When he was talking about how other companies move your stuff for example he said they collect peoples things and save them in one warehouse until there’s enough things to move them to Mexico and then and then he said I won’t say how I do it or I won’t comment on how I move your things, so I was wondering why he would not comment on how he moves your things?

This video was way too wishy-washy and slow. Wasn't the hosts fault but the annoying guest that claimed to be an "expert" who only spoke in generalizations and his wife's preferences. No concrete info at all but the guest was sure to point out all the misinformation you'll find online from other "experts". He ignored the computer screen costs or basically the costs of goods for general household item replacement if you don't bring your own used items, which is a big concern if you're not selling your home in the USA and have a big chunk of change at your disposal. Not subscribing to this channel. Host seems really sweet, but needs to get better guests.
I totally agree with your comment. He is making a lot of assumptions here without any proof. Uninsured gardener moving people...? Uncomfortable mattress in Mexico....? I can go on...😂 They have Costco, Walmart, and Ikea in Mexico.
Don't do it. Pain, suffering, hassle, expensive. Easier to bring nothing and buy stuff when you get there. Mexico discourages you from bringing your own stuff imo. It is so much easier to only bring a few suitcases.
In México you never own a property is own by the state who only gives the posetion of the land but not the ownership hehehe at any moment the goverment could confiscate property. You need pay taxes for that proporty. Now new laws are going to passed to stop migration to México and visas are going to be imposed to US citenzens to stop gentrification that is ruining life in México and it is already very difficult to compete for resources.
Ummm... most property in Mexican can be privately owned. Edijo land and land along the ocean and the border is different. Other commenters have talked about these "new laws" coming to restrict foreigners. Can you share a source for that info? Mexico already requires visas for foreigners staying longer than 6 months.
HELL NO, since you are starting a new life, you NEED to start with everything new DO NOT bring your favorite anything unless it's an ANIMAL ! PEOPLE who DO bring everything are INSECURE and poorly adapt to new situations, and will FAIL moving overseas

Tips for people who love to cook! This is stuff you can probably find in Mexico City -- but anywhere else, not so much. Bring the best chefs knives you can afford. You won't find them easily. High end electric hand mixer. If you are from the U.S., buy and bring the fridge magnets with all the metric conversions -- grams, liters, etc. Bring your hardbound copies of the Joy of Cooking and Mastering the Art... Buy and bring "Authentic Mexican" by Rick Bayless. Bonus tip: Find the place in your Mexican home town that sells the heavy comals; get two.

A comal is basically like a flat round cast-iron pan that doesn’t really have big edges to it it’s not a deep pan it’s actually a flat thing many people use for heating or making tortillas you can also use it to make quesadillas.
That’s a really good suggestion about bringing English language cookbooks that you like. I highly recommend bringing some vegetarian cookbooks even if you’re not vegetarian they have great recipes for different salads, side dishes and things that you can make with or without dairy, chicken broth etc. as far as Mexican food cookbooks you should definitely bring a few cookbooks by Diane Kennedy, she was a legend, lived much of her life in Mexico and had a cooking school and put out several cookbooks. I definitely agree that a copy of the Joey of cooking is absolutely essential. Yes converting recipes from standard to metric is a good thing to learn how to do and there are some handy charts and I’m sure there are iPhone apps that you can also use to convert to metric. Also when you find things like a cake mix in Mexico Netherlands in Spanish but it won’t be in metric so you’ll need to translate that or just learn metric measurements
Another thing to keep in mind when doing baking in Mexico is that things may be affected by humidity or by the elevation that you were at and you’ll need to adjust the recipe in that way. You also might need to adjust recipes depending on what sweetener you were using if not using team sugar you may have to use honey or agave syrup which measure in different quantities them the granulated sugar.
You can find lots of great cooking utensils in Mexico but if you can afford to buy things from Sur La Table and other chain stores like Macy’s, target and such there may be kitchen gadgets that you can’t buy in Mexico. You may also have a favorite type of coffee pot or French press that you prefer, you’ll want to buy that in the US can be very expensive to buy one a good quality in Mexico. You can buy them at some of the Starbucks in Mexico as well at things like Costco and Sam’s Club if there is one in the city you are living in.
I’ve lived in Mexico for six months at a time so I was setting up to help temporary lodging either in a small apartment or a small house and the thing I always make sure to bring with me with certain spices and ingredients that I couldn’t get in Mexico for example if you’d like making Thai food or Indian food you might want to bring a few different curry powders with you. You’ll find most of the ingredients for making traditional Thai food in Mexico all of the basics like cilantro rice, ponds chicken etc. you’ll even be able to find ginger root. You can also buy lemongrass tea in Mexico and teabags and simply cut open the teabag and use some of that as your ingredient for lemongrass though it’s better to use aromatic lemongrass. Another thing you’d want to bring with you if you’re making Thai food in Mexico us to bring some of the galanga root powder and dry lime leaves(The ones from Thailand are very different than wind leaves in Mexico.)
I have VERY expensive cookware, Scan Pan and Le Creuset, my 2 Vitamix blenders and other stuff. Thousands of $$ I paid and Im NOT going to part with it. I could never sell it and replace it for what I would end up selling it for. IDK. I soooo dread trying to bring my cookware into Mexico. The minute they try to make me pay import tax's Im leaving and maybe try another day. I know people say they wont on used stuff..Uh, that is NOT true. Make sure if you decide to drive it over that you take it out of the original box. Why? That might signal to the customs/immigration agent that you are going to sell it. $300 goods if flying in and $500 if driving in. That is the law but.. Curious why is furniture and mattress made in Mexico so uncomfortable? I have definitely herd before to bring your mattress if you can.
We moved full time 4 years ago to Bucerias in the Riviera Nayarit. We brought our clothes and dinner and kitchenware and computers, not much else. Everything else we have bought what we wanted here in this area since it close to many large Supermarketsand several Malls and a Costco and a Sam's and Walmarts.
If we can't find anything we really want locally at the many places, there's always Amazon.
We even sold our Texas plated Toyota for more than we could have gotten for it back in Texas and bought a brand new Mazda.

It's been almost 20 years since I moved with a moving company, but I've moved a number of times and never had a bad experience. I guess I've been lucky.
I shipped all my stuff from San Diego, through a freight forwarder in Nogales to SanCarlos, Guaymas. Couldn't have been easier... They did it all!!! At the time I had a FM-3.

Haha - people on facebook with the completely wrong information! So helpful to know that we may not save a thing by getting rid of a bunch of our stuff. Don't use consolidators who load a lot of peoples things into one truck. Bring mattresses, lazyboys, couches, etc as our furniture is far more comfortable! Either drive your own used furniture, etc across the border, or hire an experienced professional international mover, insured! Thank you Chuck:)

On another end, I have a friend who's from Canada, sold absolutely everything! Drove himself, with with wife his dogs clothes and a guitar. He live very confortable in Colima now, but he mentioned he didn't know there's things that are almost the same price than buying them in Canada or the states. So yes, you will loose money selling your stuff, but he have more peace of mind in another country abd happy. Thank you

Very good to know. (VERY). As far as it goes for me I think you make lists or piles of "Stuff". Can't leave without it. Need it. Want it. Or leave it for relatives, friends, donate and or give it away. Then go through it a few more times as you try to weed it out to what you really, really want or truly need. Then decide if you need a small utility trailer or a whole moving van. This will allow you to decide if you need the experienced mover or not. Well it sounds like we need our recliners and beds. Some clothes maybe jewelry and some Art but not a Garfunkel that would be cruel. So much great information! I think if you go into the moving process with the understanding that Movers are people and people make mistakes you'll be okay. Long distance moves are complicated and things sometimes get lost or broken. Most of the times these things are not intentional. When we moved from Seatte to Nashville we discovered our Christmas stuff never made it but didn't realize it until a few month later when we went to put it up. During the unload we found our stuff in someone else's kayak that they unloaded into our garage. We had to tell them the items inside we ours but the kayak was not. It's just the nature of the game. We are partly to blame because we chose not to check off everysingle item as it was unloaded. This slows it way down and is tedious but its partly why were are to blame. Thanks for hosting these conversations!

Great video! This is something I've been hemming and hawing over for a while now. I could survive and thrive with my CD collection, stereo and musical instruments -- that's what really matters to me. But I also want to be comfortable and I spent weeks finding the most comfortable sofa I could. After watching this maybe it makes sense to move that sofa down as well. But that's the breakpoint between just taking stuff in my car and hiring a mover. At that point I might as well take my bed and nightstand and and and

I'm a quadriplegic moving down from Ontario in the next couple months I was going to drive down with a small trailer on the back of my van mostly just personal supplies wheelchair and some camera equipment

The quality things you love, bring it. I got rid of most of our things. Many things I got rid of I regret because the quality is not the same here. If in question, keep it in a storage unit for a year in the states and think about it. You don’t know till you here

I actually wanted this interview to last much longer but I’m sure you have a certain format that you use for each episode here on UA-cam, I’m not a UA-cam content producer so I don’t know what your limitations are. To me it seems like the interview could easily be a two or three part interview. So many details not really covered like how many things people can bring in duty-free for example you’re allowed to do one move that includes one washer, one dryer, one stove, one refrigerator etc. how much about the same and bring and you might be moving to a part of Mexico where you’d prefer to use a clothesline and you could buy a local washing machine.
I didn’t hear any mention of that at the border the first people you encountered now are not Mexican customs agents, instead you encounter the Mexican national guard. I don’t know how well-versed they are and knowledgeable of current laws on importation. I’m sure when you declare what you have with you than they know whether to send you to an office to declare those things and pay import duty etc.
Also wondered if the shipper takes every precaution which they should do for example making sure that the people shipping stuff into Mexico have not stopped any of the furniture full of large amounts of cash, just as an example. As we all know you’re supposed to declare anything more than $10,000 cash. I’m sure the shippers want to go through everything in great detail to make sure everything complies with Mexican laws look for quantity and value of the items and of course whether they are legally allowed which would include whether there are firearms, fireworks, animals, animal products, certain antiquities that may be protected by international laws etc.
I haven’t checked the list of Mexican customs items what they are allowing and in what quantity. I recall years ago you could only bring 20 phonograph records in to Mexico. That also translated directly to being 20 cassette tapes or 20 CDs. I don’t know how that is and if it has been relaxed or you pay 50 cents Duty for each additional music recording. Perhaps that has changed a lot over the years. On a slightly related subject I have met music DJs from the United States who are going into Mexico to play at parties, or big concert events or even on broadcast radio. Years ago they would be temporarily importing their musical equipment and two or three crates of record albums. Then that became a few suitcases of CDs and nowadays they are more likely to just cross the border with a few thumb drives caring that much music, so they simply attach it to a keychain and it’s not some thing they even need to declare.
My situation is that I want to eventually move by extensive record collection to Mexico, numbering in the thousands of records mostly Latin and jazz music. I want to get it into Mexico legally and hopefully not have to pay a huge amount of fees for importing them. Wondering how about law has changed. If the record albums are for personal use and not for broadcast or for reselling in Mexico I should think it would be a pretty easy thing. Wondering if any of one reading this has had experience importing their own collection whether it’s hundreds of books or their collection of dolls or glassware or tools. I guess maybe there is some kind of a list people can look at to get a general idea of what is allowed and what the possible duty might be based on pennies per dollar or something?
Although I’d like to try shipping some items with best Mexico movers, I’d also like to do some smaller scale where I bring the items into Mexico and hire a licensed legitimate trucking company to haul my items. As I recall there are places in most Mexican border cities called paqueterías, meaning that they haul packages. Many of them. From the border to major Mexican cities as well to major cities in Guatemala El Salvador and other countries. Many of these places have flat rate boxes, similar to what we have in the US postal system with the flat rate priority mail boxes, as they say “if it fits it ships“ meaning that whether it’s 20 pounds of clothes or 200 pounds of books that if they fit in a certain size box you pay that one flat fee. They apparently divide their trucks up into square footage and they figure out what they will make by filling an entire truck with the same size square boxes etc. Wondering if anyone has experience with this. I know that if I were to ship my boxes of phonograph records to a major city in Mexico that I would plan on meeting the shipment there or finding a shipping company that will store it for up to a few weeks until I get there. I sure don’t want to reinvent the moving and shipping wheel and can understand why such a service as best Mexico movers is a good method and as he states in the interview… If you compared the final cost it can actually be cheaper to use a mover and doing it yourself, and certainly you don’t want to hire your gardener or his cousin‘s neighbor to do the move for you.
Thanks again for this great video I hope you’ll consider doing a part two and even a part three since there will be so many questions and comments from your viewers that it might serve all parties very well to extend the interview beyond the 45 minute length.
Speaking personally, I'd be more than happy to pay 50 cents per CD to bring my collection across. I think you need to look into the Menaje de Casa more and see if that would cover bringing your collection in. The issue I think is they have no proof you aren't going to resell them or die and leave them to someone who will resell them. I have the same issue with my DVD collection, I have many complete series of TV shows sitting here. Not sure if I want to bother bringing them across, I could just digitize them but man that's a lot of work.
@@CallowG I think you just have to get creative, I think we have to keep in mind that the customs agents from Mexico probably watch a lot of UA-cam and so any little tricks we tell on here might get filtered through and they will close up those existing loopholes in the system.
That said, with box sets of a series you might gift wrap them and state that they are gifts and they might charge you 25 cents per disk so a box set of eight discs would be two dollars but certainly worth it. I buy a lot of Music CDs swap meet in yard sale and they usually have price stickers on them stating “25-cents”. I leave both stickers on any but I paid more for I scrape those off them when they’re all in our box or luggage together it’s just assumed that they all cost that much each. If they want to charge me 50% import duty then that’s only 12 1/2 cents each. Show me it’s totally worth it it really just depends on how are you into Mexico what time is it in or is it Cetera if the customs agents are near having a shift change they don’t want to add to more paperwork for them to do and they’re more likely to listen through. I think because of UA-cam, Spotify, so many different music sites, most people in Mexico are downloading music and if they’re even wanting CD desks they just burn them on to a desk so I think it’s become less of an issue. I definitely never been to Mexico with a homemade DVD or CD because that could be considered bootleg or counterfeit or pirate copy. They are very tough on that in Mexico. I recommend to never ever buy a pirate DVD in Mexico or a music CD, not worth getting caught with it and besides most of those are made on laptops and scratch easily and then they’re pretty worthless.

A lot of things cost 2-3x as much in Mexico vs the US. For example a $150 bicycle is $300-$500 in Mexico.
Do people ever buy a shipping container and ship via semi-truck, or ship from port-to-port? If I moved to Mexico and had the room for it, I would want to keep the container for a shop/storage...in a perfect world (huge DIY'er).

I know everyone’s situation is different. The rules and regulations are different depending on where you’re moving to. This video was somewhat helpful..very generic as he didn’t want to give away a lot of his methods. I think it’s always best to get at least 2 to no more than 3 estimates after doing a lot of homework. It would of helped if he did a scenario based…here’s how my company handled a move for XYZ who was moving to Merida. With strong disclaimers that this is just an example and related costs.

Does that mean all the art --most of it under $500 a piece is taboo? I am a former teacher and writer and have a LOT of books. I probably can drive 15 boxes over the border (of just books) in my car... so my main question is the art.

That's a tough call. I'm guessing you couldn't move it legally. Meat isn't supposed to cross, same with most plant material. They don't even want dog food that is made from beef going south. I think your best bet would be to contact a import agent and ask for their help.
My biggest worry is that the border agents would want to open the cans to make sure there wasn't drugs / guns / alcohol in them. You could probably pack a few at a time driving south - they don't often check. But it's a risk.

The move to Mexico. I moved to Ensenada back in 2005. I have a 1997 Chevy pick up I would load my truck and I have a flat bed trailer with rails on the side. There in SanYsidro. They charged me $250.00 per trip I did 5 trips. I thought it was cheap. The moving trucks was going to charge me $5000. Dollars. So I did it my way. And yes I still have my house there in Ensenada. But I just wanted to say. How I did it And I was ok with it. I moved from San Bernardino to Ensenada. If I was going any farther, I was going to need some other paper work. ?????
Hello! A few years ago we were thinking about moving to Mexico, but they didn’t take birds, and we have a Goffin Cockatoo. I recently checked the pet requirements and now it says they are accepting birds. Do you know of anyone who has brought their parrot to Mexico and how was the process? I checked CITES and Goffin Cockatoos are not native to Mexico. And we would be driving along with our 2 small dogs.

So, Im a single mom, Im definitely a minimalist. My son and I have traveled in the USA for months at a time in a campervan. We have three cats. We live on Disability. Which isnt alot in the USA. I am also of Mexican decent and regarding the political environment, Im thinking of moving to Mexico. Can you give me any advice? I homeschool as well.
The key will be your Mexican ancestry. Being on disability, you wouldn't qualify for residency. But you can qualify for citizenship with your ancestry. I'd get started on that because the political environment seems to be getting worse by the day up in the US.
Is I speak to you I do have experience helping move from Canada all the way down to we crossed in eagle pass Texas with one SUV full of mainly stuff to keep you comfortable Big ticket items like washer and and dryers are considered tangibles durables spoons sports knives blankets clothes are also considered small ticket items
As Chuck mentioned, if you can fit it in your car, moving it south is pretty straightforward. Did you have any trouble at the border?

It was an amazing trip it started with love we fell in love on the beach of Mazatlan Sinaloa Mexico within 90 days of our meeting we were both in Mexico on the way down the first night was in Washington Spokane the next night was in Wyoming Cheyenne then Colorado ,,West Texas San Antonio for 2 days then we crossed and we went to torion couhuila then Mazatlan

When he was talking about how other companies move your stuff for example he said they collect peoples things and save them in one warehouse until there’s enough things to move them to Mexico and then and then he said I won’t say how I do it or I won’t comment on how I move your things, so I was wondering why he would not comment on how he moves your things?
@@PatriciaTorres-bg4sv I think I may have caused that because when I set up the interview, I told him it wasn't supposed to be overly self-promoting until the end when he could talk about Best Mexico Movers. I wish he would have talked a bit more about their process at that point. Thanks for replying - I didn't notice that until you pointed it out.

This video was way too wishy-washy and slow. Wasn't the hosts fault but the annoying guest that claimed to be an "expert" who only spoke in generalizations and his wife's preferences. No concrete info at all but the guest was sure to point out all the misinformation you'll find online from other "experts". He ignored the computer screen costs or basically the costs of goods for general household item replacement if you don't bring your own used items, which is a big concern if you're not selling your home in the USA and have a big chunk of change at your disposal. Not subscribing to this channel. Host seems really sweet, but needs to get better guests.
I totally agree with your comment. He is making a lot of assumptions here without any proof. Uninsured gardener moving people...? Uncomfortable mattress in Mexico....? I can go on...😂
They have Costco, Walmart, and Ikea in Mexico.

Don't do it. Pain, suffering, hassle, expensive. Easier to bring nothing and buy stuff when you get there. Mexico discourages you from bringing your own stuff imo. It is so much easier to only bring a few suitcases.
Everyone has their own preferences. I'm in the same boat as you.
In México you never own a property is own by the state who only gives the posetion of the land but not the ownership hehehe at any moment the goverment could confiscate property. You need pay taxes for that proporty. Now new laws are going to passed to stop migration to México and visas are going to be imposed to US citenzens to stop gentrification that is ruining life in México and it is already very difficult to compete for resources.
Ummm... most property in Mexican can be privately owned. Edijo land and land along the ocean and the border is different.
Other commenters have talked about these "new laws" coming to restrict foreigners. Can you share a source for that info?
Mexico already requires visas for foreigners staying longer than 6 months.

@@Jay-be2le I always have my wife drive across the border (even though she's blond and about as non-Mexican as they get) because I think the border guards are nicer to women. ;-)
