    Boiling the water is a waste of time and not needed. I make GALLONS of the stuff from April until into Sept each year and have done so for almost 20 years. I have been using 2 liter bottles and will go through one in about 3 days. Just measure the water then measure the sugar, one part sugar + little extra, and put it into the water WITHOUT heating, stir, I use a wooden spoon, and in just a couple minutes the mixture will be clear and ready to use. The birds absolutely love it.

    Can I use Cane Sugar ? Specifically Florida Cane Sugar ?

  • @djack41
    @djack41 3 роки тому +6

    No, no. Measure and boil the water first. Then turn off the heat and add the measured amount of sugar. Now stir and let cool. Avoid cooking the sugar by boiling the water first. Boiling tap water will help remove chlorine and other chemicals and the sugar will melt quickly when stirred.

    • @deft1abc1

      Boiling tap water will not remove chemicals like fluoride and heavy metals.

    • @djack41
      @djack41 2 роки тому

      @@deft1abc1 Yes. Boiling readily removes Chlorine, which is a gas but unfortunately, not Fluoride and metals. Boiling also kills bacteria.

    • @ehullquist

      Are you using "natural" or cane sugar? Those are not as pure as white sugar and will ferment quicker.

      I agreed, I tried 4:1 and the birds loved it, then I tried 3:1, tasted it, and it was quite sweet, so I squeezed in a wedge of lemon to balance it out, it tasted much better especially with a few cubes of ice, mmmm... mmmmm.... tasty lemonade!

    can u use honey instead of sugar.. cause most sugar is from beets

    • @karingodfrey2053
      @karingodfrey2053 6 років тому +2

      I think the recommendation is not to use honey. just sugar

    • @andychen7390
      @andychen7390 5 років тому +5

      Honey is a no no; the resulting solution will ferment and spoil really quickly, which will become toxic to hummingbirds.

    I accidentally used 4 parts sugar and one part water, didnt get any humming birds, i got this weird farmer looking guy who looks like his skin is loose instead, this dude is an animal! He drank it all up and keeps asking me for more, and asking about where the galaxy was? Idk but im going to try to get rid of him before the week is up.
