@@douglasbarnes4035 Yeah I did find some errors in certain examples and exercises but they are way too obvious to be of any concern. They might not be more than ten in total.

Hey, have you check out the art of problem solving textbooks? They're meant to challenge kids which find school math easy; a lot of their questions are competition-level

This is what I’m saying! I would especially recommend the AoPS Intermediate Algebra book, which is what I am doing. It is difficult but very rewarding (my understanding of the concepts is deep). My favorite thing about the series is that they have you do practice problems before they fully teach you the subject, which prevents parroting (something I catch myself doing in school sometimes).

Hello, Math Sorcerer! Im from Brazil and i have 30 years old and im trying to find a way to learn math by myself. I dont have a perfect english, but i can read and understand almoust everything... What is the diferece betwin this book and the blue one (Everything You Need to Ace Math in One Big Fat Notebook). I found both on internet for free and i need your opinion. Thanks for your content! By the way, i am level zero in math, like the most of the people around the world and i want to face this challenge to be a better person and teach my future sons because the schools are failing with because of the progressism, and i am a proof of that otherwise i woudn't be here. Thanks again - Keep going, you are an inspiration to me.

My advice is use Khan academy do go from early math review and up to 8th grade. That should get you up to speed so you can continue your learning.

It would make sense to review this book alongside the workbook.
The Big Fat Notebook series have already put a workbook for Math, Pre-Algebra/ Algebra 1. They are coming out with a Geometry workbook later this year.
They have a planned Big Fat Notebook for Algebra 2 and workbook in the works.

I finished working through this book just yesterday. It's an excellent book for people who haven't had any mathematics for more than decades (like me) and want to relearn basic algebra.
The text doesn't try to be funny (like some books in the "for Dummies" series) but makes the material accessible by (1) the clarity of its explanations, (2) examples, (3) colours and (4) illustrations. The result is an easily digestible "text".
On the downside, I suspect a few errors in the solutions (two or three exercises where I couldn't arrive at the proposed solution even after redoing the exercise a few times).
Near the end of the book, I think some concepts could have been connected better. I am thinking specifically of the relationship between the discriminant of a quadratic equation (which is used to find the number of solutions) and the quadratic formula: the book does not point out that the formula for the discriminant is also used in the quadratic formula. The connection between the y-intercepts and the discriminant could have been made more explicit instead of leaving this up to the reader. There is also no explanation of how the quadratic formula is derived; it is just given as-is. But these are only minor criticisms.
Overall, this is a great book and I highly recommend it.

Great examples in this book, but there are several completely incorrect answers in the answer guide. Was super confusing to me when learning concepts because I would be pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I did wrong. Eventually threw tbe book out. If you can’t trust the answers in they give you then you can’t trust anything.

    • @dontango3272

Check out the Teach Yourself series book “Logic: A Complete Introduction” by Siu-Fan Lee. Lee covers syllogistic, propositional, and predicate logic for the complete beginner.
A more advanced introduction is “Schaum’s Outline of Logic” by Nolt, Rohatyn, and Varzi.
A lot of logic people also are devotees of the Raymond Smullyan’s books/puzzles.

I advise against this book and the rest of them if you're truly a beginner. There are far too few examples on how to get something done and you have to heavily rely on youtube and A.I to help you understand the concept on a deeper level to become good at it. You're better off with Basic College Mathematics by Miller O'Neill Hyde and moving up with their books that are much more informative and less goofy
