    I was a student who was so bad (math), my teacher told me im not good enough for it.
    Graduation day, I had the highest grade in the hardest finals for the past 20 years as said by the math teachers.
    Just keep going. I once sat on a problem for a week straight until it finally clicked.

      Not always true though, you can be naively optimistic by thinking you can do something when in reality you can't, or you can be naively pessimistic by thinking you can't do something when in reality you can. We must not over-estimate or under-estimate our abilities.

    • @progamerzach1
      @progamerzach1 27 днів тому

      @@geddon436 Sometimes we don't always know what is or isn't possible, for example is interstellar travel across the universe possible? It either is or isn't, but we're not too sure about it because maybe our current understanding can't figure how to do it. People hundreds and thousands of years ago probably thought circling across the world in less than 2 days is impossible, or going to space is impossible, yet we've accomplished those things through our aircraft and rocket ships.
      But sometimes you can find out right away if something is possible or isn't, for example it's impossible for a human to lift a 500 ton boulder, or to jump 500 feet in the air, or to fly without equipment. And if something is possible but our efforts aren't reaching the goal then we're simply not working smart, for example you can lift a small rock with just your hand but it's impossible to lift it if you attempt to do it by levitation or any other way that doesn't involve actually touching the rock and lifting it.
      Point is we must be realistic and be careful on or judgements when we label something possible or impossible. Even some UFOs that pilots have seen have reported to be breaking the laws of physics, so our perspective and beliefs must align with reality if we want to understand how the universe operates.

Seriously: what he said it's true, do a total attack on the subject you are studying, check every page of the book, google if you can't find the answer in the book. You will make it. The magic your'e looking for , is in the work you're avoiding.
    I didn't have the chance to take up further maths in secondary school which made some doors closed for me. Eg Going to a Junior college which is 11th and 12th grade. But I didn't give up and started learning calculus 1 on my own this year which is kinda challenging to me. But I'm really set on taking aeronautical engineering in a polytechnic so Im hoping to learn as much maths I can so that I can close the gap between students who have taken Futher maths and me. Talk about perfect timing. I mean I needed to hear this just an hour ago after talking to someone over the phone who wondered why I am studying math and expressed doubts about whether it made any sense for me to do so. And an hour later, bingo, a new video from The Sorcerer appears that addresses what I was feeling. So I definitely needed to hear this. I believe in math and what it can do. It is too bad "non-math" people don't understand this.

    When you mentioned that Statistics was probably the easiest class you had taught, my heart sank. In the semester that just concluded, I passed Calc 2 and Calc 3, but will have to re-sit my Probability and Statistics paper.
    It was extremely disheartening and crushing given that the Statistics paper was the very first college module that I had to re-sit. No excuses here...back to the grind!

    Thank You,
    For the encouragement. i’ve seen myself go from bad AP calculus, grades and bad high school pre-Cal grades to impressive trigonometry standards when I went to community college. It was incredible. How many problems I was doing a week in order to turn-in the homework problems. It was roughly about 70 to 90 problems a week and I would calculate how many problems I would have to do a day. But I was shocked on my first Trig exam when I saw I got a whopping 99 ; I just couldn’t believe it. I was thinking as I checked the grade in my car in the parking lot and “it must’ve been a glitch” b/c I’ve never seen myself get an A in a math class. So I appreciate your encouragement. I’m trying to do engineering man. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do. The only type of math that pains me the most is arithmetic😢. Mental stuff and tricks to do so I feel are more tedious than helpful, but thx god we have calulators🎉

    What people usually call talent I call a huge interest in something in particular. Another thing is our potencial. As you say, it is also huge in all of us, but to use it requires A LOT of work, and many many people still don't realize how much work it does take.
    I think one of the keys to achieve something by studying, learning, growing... is to have a clear target in mind, what do you want to reach. And when you have that cristal clear in your mind, work hard and go for it, simple.
    But of course, as that famous 70's rock song sings, It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll.

    Thanks for the words. Growing up I was crap at math. After years of avoiding college I decided to study CS. Initially I had to drop precalc because of how bad I was at it. I’ve also become a math major and next thing ya know I went up to Diff Eqs. I thought I had gotten good at math until I took my first proofs course. Ended up with a C … it was my first real math course at a University and I felt so slow compared to others. Now I’m frightened for more proof courses and then real analysis. All I can do is ease up on the pot and study even harder

    This kind of happened with me in General Chemistry 2. I got an associates in business back in 2018 and ended up in a totally different line of work. I came back for science and I jumped right into General Chemistry without refreshingly my math. I struggled big time with isolating variables when solving for certain variables of certain formulas. I got a 50 on a test that was all about rate laws, equilibrium, etc and not having the math skills made it hard. I did end up bouncing back and getting a C, but this summer I'm taking Intermediate Algebra. The furthest I ever got in math was Pre Calculus but I decided to just bite the bullet and build myself back up from the fundamentals. The truth is math is important in almost every field.

    I like to think it this way: if you were put in solitary confinement for the rest of your life and you had nothing to do except study mathematics, would you be able to learn the material? If the answer is yes, then it's possible, and if the answer is no, then it's either impossible or you haven't found a way. Sometimes failing multiple times at something doesn't automatically mean it's impossible to achieve the goal, I believe the key to guaranteed success is having potential, proper resources, working smart and working hard all at the same time.

    You guys in america can fail 2 tests in uni and still go into next semester?! How easy that is haha. Where I live you can‘t fail, if you do you are kicked out and maybe even forbidden to study again in this major.

    My calc 2 professor failed me in 2 tests because of my writing i got 1 problem wrong on each, if i go slower i run out of time and if I write fast my writing is a little sloppy, (not illegible but to be fair not perfect) it's just like me and 7 people left from like 35

    Trying to convince people that calling the counting naturals the only countable infinity is circular logic is impossible; but you’re welcome to prove me wrong.

    Self doubt kills your potential to succeed or realise your dreams. I am the only one who thinks I can’t do a PhD . Friends , professors who taught me at Uni and family believe I am the perfect candidate. It is kinda of late for me now but people believe in yourself .

    Vitamin N makes the impossible, possible. N for NO. Not no to your dreams and aspirations, but no to when you want to give up. We naturally say yes to what we desire in the moment, but the ones who actually make it further than everyone else are the people who inhibit their temporary satisfaction to allow their future selves to have freedom.

    "Because I have seen it", what an amazing fallacy for a mathematician, to confuse "there exists" with "for all". Admittedly, it's probably the most common fallacy people engage in: generalize from a single or a few observations to "therefore it must be so".

    • @Supercatzs
      @Supercatzs 28 днів тому

      does not take real analysis to disprove that statement, assuming x means multiplication, it's an extremely trivial statement, one grouping of one is going to be itself, that being, one. QED

      if you allow that result, then you get all kinds of other 'interesting' results:
      Assume 1x1=2 and all else holds
      this would imply:
      1x0= 1 x (-1 + 1) = 1x-1 + 1x1 = -1 + 2 = 1. of course 0≠1

    The greatest issue in any field of study is: SEMANTICS,SYNTAX, SEMIOTICS,PERSEVERANCE AND FREQUENCY. Whatever field you select you must have a passion for that field; if you have passion, then no grading system or failure will hinder you. You must constantly expose yourself to the material. Unfortunately our grading system is very discouraging to some individuals. Some people learn at different speeds; or one author explains the material better so the recpient starts to comprehend the material. Or maybe the representational form of the problem is not conducive to some people's cognitive identity or cognitive architecture. The way a problem is written syntactically, and semantically can make the problem appear to be much more difficult than it really is. Probabilisticly, the more problems you expose yourself to, the greater the acquisition of solutions. P.S. keepup the great work. You are a true teacher!🕍🕌👍🏿
