I think that Chromoly shafts kept it from getting worse. My little XJ still hast the D30 front axle and it's bent, but I built it with cgromoly shafts so it hasn't broken yet. Next step is building either a D44 or 1 ton front and 9in rear. It's more street than trail, but I want to use it for overlanding with somewhat of a cage.
Looks like it’s bent out at the spindles, I wouldn’t think with a light buggy it would not do that. Was it a used housing that could have been bent from hauling weight in a truck or did you build the housing fresh.
This axle I bought almost 10 years ago from a guy that was using it on a crawler. I have since had it in two different crawlers. Over that time it’s had a couple different configurations of brackets and trusses on it. It could have also warped from welding on it too many times.
@@wheelinoutwest I was thinking it could be from welding as well. Good catch and good to know. I'll check mine the same way when I have it out for winter maintenance
I imagine if you did go fast stuff then it would have given you much more issue. But since you do slow rock crawling stuff that’s likely why it wasn’t bad at all. Pretty crazy that you bent that large of an axle. I’ve put my JKU with a Dana 44 rear through some wild stuff and have zero issues with it. 14 bolt is big!! And your buggy is definitely lighter than my JKU lol
Yeah, Imagine high speed would have led to more issues for sure! I think the issue was, the truss I originally bought was to high for that car, so I cut it down, which made it shorter, and it did not support the outer length of the tube.

Yeah, it may have!

@@wheelinoutwest makes sense. Glad your finding things out and fixing things though!
I recommend you look at the camera lens next time.
I agree, I just got that camera and realized I was looking at the screen, and not the lens.
