    Thanks for the upload!!! I did this yesterday and I sprayed out some UPOL UP2251 4:1 high build primer and it sprayed and laid out so smoothly. The Tip sealed up great! Best thing is the purple gun is super cheap. I’m no pro(garage gang) and the purple is perfect to practice and learn from. Thanks again brother!!🏁🏁🏁🏁

    Looking for Orifice dim....5/64. - 2mm. Thanks!!
    I've painted several hundred sq. feet of house with no tooling to the gun. Yes, I had to thin the Kiltz primer. So it will actually work as is. Also, painted doors wich are fun and not a headache with a gun. Now, with the 2mm orfice, I'm able to use thicker paint, a big plus!! I lowered the PSI as much as I could along with the fan adjustment to 4-5in. pattern... less overspray and a thicker layer. It takes more swipes but nice and thick. When I drilled out the gun I used a new bit and my mini laith. One other thing you can do is refinish the needle (if rough). 6-800 dimond stone. And or polish it. I do this with my small fine air brush. Its also worth getting a small regulator to atach just aft. the gun H.Freight has them. Best tool at that store for vs the money. No kidding!!!!

    I modified my Husky HVLP gun.
    The needle is about 3.5mm, so opening up the tip to 2mm is OK.
    I too had thought about how the needle would seat as drilling stainless can leave a poor edge. I used some fine valve lapping paste and put the needle in my drill. Just a gentle pressure polished the tip & needle to each other and I could see a good seat pattern. Reassembled & tested good.

    That harbor freight gun can do satisfactory results. excellent results are achieved using a better gun with wider spray pattern, flow rate automotive paint base and clear coats

    I've used the stock 1.4mm to paint primer. Harbor Fright sells a $15 2mm nozzle paint gun. I want to spray gelcoat which needs a 3mm nozzle and have been trying to find a way to modify one for this, so far no luck. gelcoat barely comes out of a 2mm nozzle. btw, to paint latex on sheds, I use a HF texture sprayer with the paint watered down a little, this just blasts the paint out and can cover a huge area very quickly but can make a mess and drips, but gets the job done in a hurry.

    This worked great for me with ploycrylic. One that caused me trouble - VAPOR LOCK in the paint cup. Had to loosen the cap to get good flow, might drill a hole in the top so the threads don't leak when gun tilts

    I dont understand why you needed to modify it. I literally use this gun every day and have for almost a year at work and spray 2k primer with the 1.4Mm original nozzle and setup. It sprays just fine as long as you clean it well and keep it maintained. The only time I ever have an issue is if I do not clean it thoroughly and keep all the holes unclogged. I have primed entire cars with it MANY times. I mean I've probably put 300 cups of primer through this thing. I get comments from ignorant people all the time ragging on my gun and yet I spray primer just as quickly and effectively as guys with $200+ guns. Granted, their guns can afford to be used without as much cleaning and maintenance but I just happen to be the type of person who believes in taking care of all my tools and I dont toss my stuff around and leave it laying wherever it falls after working with it. People who say this gun is trash are idiots

    No offense, but how many runs did you end up having? Technique is horrendous, until your last pass you didn't key your trigger really at all. Then you were too close if I saw right, and you didn't run your passes passed the piece you were painting.

    Scott, the problem with drilling the fluid tip out as you show is you lose the seat surface in the fluid tip. You talk about the needle, that is not where you are losing the seat surface. Cross section one and you will see what i mean as a 2mm hole removes the angle inside the fluid tip.

    I agree. I drilled my harbor freight spray gun to 2mm. My question is can I go for 2.5mm for the really heavy primers like zinsser?

    Scott I do a lot of auto rebuilding (DIY) only because I do it at my residence i consider it DIY I was looking for a inexpensive way to spray high fill primer I followed your directions to the letter I have used it well over 30 times at it works great . obviously you have to clean the gun very well afterwards or it will become a problem but with a little maintenance in some patients it works great thanks for information . Hi Scott, just want to offer a simple advice regarding the technique you're currently using.
    When using the spray gun try not to double back while on the panel. What you want to do is continue spraying past the panel, release the trigger, reverse direction and pull the trigger again. This way you're not causing too much build up on the edges.
    Here's a great informational video 👍👍👍

    That duplicolor stuff is not as thick as real primer surfacer. The hf gun would have sprayed that stuff fine without mod, it’s as thin as water.

I believe I have one (never used) if I can find it somewhere in the garage. Thank you for your production.

    By heavier paints, will metallics be considered that.

      Just got done spraying a very small project with a mini HF HVLP spray gun. The paint was Killz primer and the gun's nozzle is 1mm. I had to thin the Kilz with water a fair bit to get a decent flow to the gun. Unthinned Kilz would not even flow from the paint cup to the gun. Trial and error was the order of the day. The explanation of the drilling for the nozzle vs the major diameter of the needle is appreciated and I may perform this modification in the future. I am not aware of any replacement needle/seat combinations for these guns. I have a Homeright HVLP spray gun also and have 6 sets of needle/seats for that gun to deal with paint thicknesses and spray widths.

    • @ragtop63
      @ragtop63 3 роки тому

      FYI, there's no difference in viscosity between indoor paint and outdoor paint. Outdoor latex paints might have a little more titanium dioxide content for more protection from the sun but otherwise they are almost identical.

    Hey there Scott I bought the same gun and cant get it to work right, I fixed all the leaks but when It comes to painting it just throws small dots doesnt really throw a solid fan of paint, only small dots so I have to keep going over and over to make it solid but then it leaves the paint textured cause of this, any tips on how I could fix this? Also what psi do you run the gun at?

    • @johnjkizer6399

      Possibly your air compressor is supplying enough air, try Turing up if you have done so, mine was also spraying dots with very little paint coming out, once I set the regulator much higher it painter much better. Peace and God Bless

    • @williamcharles9480
      @williamcharles9480 4 роки тому +1

      I've got a Craftsman 5.5HP 25 gallon compressor with the same type of sealed, "oil-less" compressor that I bought 25 years ago, it still works great with almost daily use. Only the little foam rubber type air intake filter gets changed when needed as it's only maintenance. My only problem is that spare parts are no longer available if needed because it's considered obsolete. This doesn't mean you can't retrofit a part from another brand of newer compressor if you're into doing a bit of research.
