  • De-Thatching is as important as flossing your teeth but has been a pain to do. See below for links to the John Deere Thatcher, Manual, and Bracket. The last half of video is a demonstration.
Towed rear de-thatchers require concrete blocks and you to keep cleaning them. Front dethatchers don't float up and down with the terrain, and clog...until this inexpensive solution.
A special mounting bracket from D&L Creative Concepts on eBay connects the John Deere LP48004 Thatcher directly to the X700 Series Front Quick Hitch. It's a great solution:
    + Easy - Hydraulics raise/lower the thatcher
+ Fast - Clean out the thatcher in 5 seconds-no pitchfork
+ Simple - No need to get on/off the tractor
+ Cheaper than John Deere bracket
+ Better built than John Deere bracket
+ Floats perfectly up and down along terrain
    + No cinder blocks needed.

This uses the same John Deere Front Quick-Hitch and Hydraulic Lift BM19782 ($637) as the Snow Thrower, Snow Plow, or Rotary Broom.
    This video shows one John Deere 38-inch Thatcher Attachment - LP48004 $221 & two 8" Extensions LP48003 $50 each.
D&L Creative Concepts store on eBay makes the mounting bracket:

I have no affiliation with this person or store. I am just happy with their product.
Before someone says it, you should not dethatch at 10+ miles an hour, down a hill, at night. And yes, the dethatcher is pulling up broken branches up to 1" or 2" in diameter, and no, the X739 has no problem mulching them up.
Thatch is the grass stems that died in place and did not fall to the soil. Thatch blocks water, nutrients, and air from getting to the living grass. A Thatcher (actually a De-Thatcher) pulls this dead grass out to you can mulch it up so it can land on the soil and decay giving nutrients to the living grass.
