    I Have finally broken down and jumped into the powder coating game, my eastwood ford light blue (and gloss black, and dark green and hot pink) powder is in the mail. The toaster oven is plugged in on my workbench and the strainer basket is ready to go....I sure hope I can make some PC'ed bullets look as nice as yours, and again, thanks for spreading the info and thank you for what you do!

    One thing about the .44 cartridge family, it seems that a person never gets tired of shooting them. You can load them for light serious target use all the way to super duper plant destroyers. Ether punching paper or taking Game there is something for everyone in loading and shooting those cartridges.

    Hey FC Steve, those look almost good enough to eat. I need to get another Ruger in 44 or 45 Colt. I have two of the 38's
    for Cowboy but would like one to shoot 45 Colt in. Or 44 wouldn't hurt either. Does your range allow pistol caliber rifles in the handgun section ?

    FC, is the bullet crimp the same for the special & magnum loads. No difference in degree of crimp ?

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  6 років тому +1

      Walter Palmer - Practically speaking, we can use the same crimp for both +P and Magnum loads. For the light and standard Specials and easy to ignite powders like Unique, Red Dot, Promo, Bullseye, TiteGroup, a light crimp is all that is needed. Have a fine day, FC Steve

    Hey Steve , I have a Taurus 44 special 4 inch and worked up some hot loads for it . They are virtually identical to yours and the recoil is impressive . My middle finger is all beat up , but I look at it as a badge of courage . In fact , I do a lot of things you do and see your video on it later . Great minds get the same results . I wish you were my neighbor here in South Florida . I recommend your channel to people who call me crazy . I'm 72 and have been rolling my own since '73 . It's fun , eh . Keep up the great videos . Try some 90 gr. .380 bullets in a .357 and have flat primers . It's fun to vaporize objects with these little bombs going very , very fast . Take care , my Canadian brother . Bye for now .

      hairy1harry1 - lol..!! I really like your comments...that is one fine shootin' iron ya got thar, pardnah..!! What you have is the equal of what Elmer Keith used working up his stoked 44 Special loads - reports were 17.5 grains of 2400 powder and his 250 grain Keith bullet - start low if you want to work this up if you haven't done that already. Your 90 grain bullets in 357 remind me of fully loaded 90 grain 38 Supers - they turned water bottles into vapor quite nicely back in the year 1970 when shooting water bottles wasn't often reported. Good shootin' to ya, Hail to Florida..!! Steve

      @@FortuneCookie45LC I've done 19 gr . of 2400 with a 220 gr. hard cast and 15.7 gr. H-110 with a 295 gr. hard cast , too ! Yee haw !! Yes I cast . Fun , isn't it ? My Ruger 45 LC is apocalyptic . Same recoil as a 454 Cassull in the same gun . I only use Starline brass for the crazy hot loads . Keep warm and safe . Happy Thanksgiving . Feliz Dia de Gracius .

      Barchetta Always consult a reloading manual. Honestly, you can start with 44 special brass and come up with some pretty hot loads. Look to a 180 grain projectile at around 1050 FPS. You’ll have something akin to a 44 special +P.

    • @edbecka233
      @edbecka233 2 роки тому

      My favorite reduced load for 44 Mag is a Keith or the MP HBWC over 4.5 of W231 or HP38.

      Chris Chiampo - And those rounds had warm, but not high pressure primer signs, easy extraction and ejection. Still reserved for strong revolvers like the Rugers - not old Colts or even today's Colt clones. The Keith loads, of course are well stoked and led to the development of the 44 Magnum. Hey FC. I just got a Rossi model 92 in 44mag and I am going to cast my own 240g swc and powder coat them with either harbor freight red or Eastwood Ford light blue. How hard of alloy should I use and what load data should I use? Cast lead or jacketed?

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  6 років тому +1

      Josh Wideman - Great questions..!! Congrats on your Rossi. I have 2 of ‘em, and i’m Hangin’onto ‘em + shoot ‘em a lot. With PC any BHN alloy of 12-18 will do. For your 44 Mag, you should use cast bullet Reloading data, but if pressures are OK, you can extend to jacketed Reloading data. For example, I shoot the Keith load a lot in my 44 Mag -that is 22 grains of 2400 powder with the 245 grain Lyman429421 bullet.powder coated - a maximum load that should be approached with good Reloading practices. • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  6 років тому

      Josh Wideman - Your Puma is an upgraded M92 Rossi. The Rossis are made in Brazil on CNC machinery and are mighty fine shooters. The Pumas are made in Italy on similar machinery but more finely finished. Legacy markets the Pumas and yes they are higher quality and more costly. In used good condition at a gun store, they are in the $800 - $850 range, but if you found one and did a person to person transfer through an FFL, you could get a good deal. This would be in California. A new Rossi M92 is pushing $675 - $700. Best to ya, FC Steve

    Another great video FC I have never shot through a chronograph before but you talk a lot about standard deviation what is that and how is it calculated? I shoot steel and other reactive targets mostly only shoot paper before deer season. Thanks in advance

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  6 років тому

      Sam Brewer - SD is a statistical term for how likely any single item or event is likely to fall in relation to the mean of the group. Two Standard Deviations from the mean = 95% will fall in that range. For shooting, the SD is expressed numerically in fps. Lower SD means more consistent fall, with narrower spreads. But there are many other factors that result in the accuracy of any gun / ammo / shooter system so that low SD doesn't always mean better accuracy. However, it does mean more consistent ammo so it shows how good our reloading practices are. Best to ya, FC Steve

    To make them look more authentic a dark grey powder coat would look, and give the lead the protection that is beneficial to fight leading but from a distance looks like ol' fashioned lead. I want to do the same with a 158Gr LSWCHP mold from LEE, that I'd love to give the same shade of navy blue coating of that of the old S&W /Federal Nyclad bullets.

    For healed bullets .. wrap the "step" of the projectile with Teflon plumbers tape and when you remove the tape after baking .. no powder coat.. did this with 41lc .. enlarged a Lee S&W 40 sizer die to .402 for my pre 1889, 1877 colt ... after 1889 the cylinder chambers appeared be bored straight through for the new encased projectile .. • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  6 років тому +3

      The Eastern front - The Old Vaqueros were Blackhawks in disguise and could handle 44 magnum. The New Vaqueros are smaller frame Colt size to make the cowboy action shooters happy - but these cannot handle heavy loads - the 44 magnum has even been dropped from the New Vaquero line. But the Old Vaquero - just blast away and it's ready for more... Best to ya, FC Steve

      FortuneCookie45LC The older Ruger cowboy revolvers are quite stout but recoil from a Bisley Vaquero 5" isn't pleasant with heavy loads. I find something around 1100 fps manageable and less punishing. Despite it's little warts it's a tough piece.

      Willie Bulletman - Not a member of any range (used to be a member of three) at this time. It is the Optimist Range where this video was done. The Keith bullet is a long nose SWC with tapered crimp groove and three equal width driving bands, one big grease groove - weighs 245 - 250 grains. The hot loads you saw being shot were Keith loads using the Keith bullet and 22 grains of 2400 powder. That load of 7.5g of Herco sounded a bit warm to me, based on all my reading over the years (and subject to my questionable memory!). I did not know the Keith bullet is too long for the levergun in a 44 Spl case. Interesting. Always learning something from your videos. Troy - The Keith bullet is not too long in 44 Spl. Too long in 44 Mag cases though. Feeding may hang up with the bullet shape in any event. Best bullet for lever guns is the RNFP or variant. Yes, 7.5 grains of Herco or Unique is in the realm of Skeeter loads - they are for strong 44 Specials or 44 Magnum guns only. Good shootin’ To ya, FCSteve

    • @edbecka233
      @edbecka233 2 роки тому

      Training and action-testing DUMMY, not "dud", rounds generally have a blue finish. It's a bit darker than the Ford Blue shown. "Dud" means a round that misfired; "dummy" means a round with no primer or propellant.
