Jack Pearson plays Duane Allman’s SG ( Vault Sessions S2:E32)

- A match made in heaven-Duane Allman’s 1961 Les Paul Standard (SG body style) and Jack Pearson!!! The guitarist’s guitarist, Jack Pearson reignites Duane’s SG for the very first time since it was purchased from Graham Nash.
This guitar was originally purchased in 1970 by Dickey Betts at a music store in Gainesville, Fla. Later that year Dickey purchased his 1957 Les Paul Gold Top which he started to favor. Every time Duane went to play slide he would have to re-tune his guitar to an open tuning and the band would have to wait, slowing down the flow of the performance. In 1971, Dickey gave the SG to Duane so it could be left in open tuning. This guitar is currently on display at the Songbirds Guitar Museum in Chattanooga, TN.
These sessions help keep the music alive by helping the Songbirds Foundation raise money to buy guitars for kids…check out our website to find out more- songbirdsfoundation.org. Thanks to our sponsors and friends- The George Fontaine Family, The Riverview Foundation, Schillhahn-Huskey Foundation, GHS Strings, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Special thanks to John Dooley for the great video work.
WE HAVE SOME BIG SESSIONS COMING SOON: Jack Pearson and Duane Allman’s Firebird, Jimmy Herring + Duane’s SG, Tommy Emmanuel (Part 2), Jerry Douglas, Eric Tessmer, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, John Paul White, Reignwolf, and more Moon River Sessions. Follow us for more!
Jack Pearson...you are a goddamned American treasure....I remember many a night watching you play at 3rd...just sitting there completely dumbstruck....by the second set you get so warmed up... and i get so tuned up...it's a beautiful thing. You are one of the all-time greats my friend...born to pick that thang...thank you for all the great music.
your pal, Tom Bukovac

Duane is looking down with a big smile on his face
Duane is loving it
All these years later and Jack is still enamored by Duane and his playing. INCREDIBLE!
We need to get Jack Pearson play all the guitars there and film it. He's an amazing player.
Turgut Kartal i vote for that
We still have footage of Jack playing a Firebird that was Duane’s as well. Stay tuned!
Buttery af. Smooth without being oily. I keep hearing people talk about greasy blues but Duane's style always seemed to bleed fire and sweat more than grease and tears. Just my opinion. But man. The tone. Anyone who says what a guitar is made of and how it's aged doesn't matter is kind of not paying attention.
*throws seasoned mahogany planks into brine, because blood/sweat/tears are all of that*
Inspiration is where you find it. I know people that play music and other sorts of broad spectrum weirdness at their stocks of tonewoods, and I don't laugh.
Every impulse in a sound wave moves molecules of matter, regenerates, feeds back into itself, and moves more stuff until it can't move no more.
How human is that?
Have you seen him play mandolin? Sheesh. Dude is a monster and I mean that in the most respectful way possible.
@@pizza_tapes and only started playing mandolin not too many years ago. There was a very good reason Dickey Betts said the Brothers were going to hire Jack after Warren left or he was going to take lessons from him.
Mr. Pearson's beautiful soul is pushed and poured out all over the strings of any guitar he plays. He is a Divinely inspired gift from the Creator. Thanks Jack.
What happened in life to the 44 sad souls that disliked this vid? Jack's giving an unfiltered masterclass and showing how it's all done.
As if his playing weren’t mind blowing enough, his knowledge of Duane’s style and technique is incredible. What a player
Indeed! It's all in the touch of the fingers.
Makes sense considering he toured with ABB for a couple of years.
It takes an Allman Brother to know an Allman Brother!!
he WAS better than Duane, one of the very best, a treasure...
Man it's perfect
He plays more like Duane than Trucks or really anyone I have heard...He captures it.
I read somewhere that Eric Clapton said that Duane was the best guitar player he had ever heard, I totally get it now , just amazing, Jack you are the best I’ve ever heard , best tone and so clean , no mistakes, your a master at the game , Thank you sir .
I can’t help but think that Duane is sitting around somewhere listening to this and saying thank you for making my guitar sound so good once agin.
Saw him for the first time with the Allmans in the late 90s. Was so impressed with his playing that I somehow found an email for Jack (don't recall where) so I figured what the hell, and sent him an email praising his playing with one of my favorite bands . Son of a gun if the guy didn't email me back the next day, leading to a back and forth over the course of the next couple days just talking about guitars and his playing. Couldn't believe it. Such a humble guy and one of the greatest guitar players I've had the pleasure of seeing live.
Jack is the best! We have another Jack video coming in January. Subscribe for notifications!
Good Lord, what a complete master.
I came here because Tommy Emmanuel told Rick Beato, this guy was one of the greatest improvisers he's ever seen. He did not disappoint.
Anything Tommy and/or Jack, is a good listen!
Jack is one of the best ever, IMO.
I’m here cause Kenny Vaughn melted while talking about him.
Who’s here from Theo and Billy Strings
Jack Pearson is one of the great blues rock guitarists!! He is so terribly underrated!!
this is pretty much the high water mark for all guitar playing and all guitar videos on the net... you have one of the greatest players and one of the most iconic guitars together in one place.
I absolutely adore this man, so humble and an incredibly gifted player.
Yeah while all the "youtube stars" are on here flexing their "boutique" and "signature" model nonsense and all their Custom Shop overpriced stuff Jack is just sitting around blistering a Squier Bullet! I guess it takes Duane's actual guitar to get him to put down his budget model he generally plays. The dude is just unreal.
True - Jack is as humble as he is talented. He's one of the special ones.
Why isn't Jack considered one of the best guitar players alive? I've seen him play like a master in so many different situations! You are the man Jack!
Yeah I seen him when I was just a teenager with the ABB back in the 90's and even then I knew he was the real deal. He literally stood on stage right in front of me and I think at one point might have even smoked a pipe on stage but he was wearing overalls and a sort of engineer's hat or something like that but just wore it out. He's the real deal for sure. As great as he is at replicating Duane he is just as proficient with Wes Montgomery as well. A rare breed!
He is. He's just one of those guys at the top of his field whom all the greats know of and point to as the greatest, but who just hasn't become famous. Academics are like that too. You have famous scientists on the airwaves, but the ones pushing the research farther are the ones nobody knows about.
Jack is only guitarist I know that plays EVERY genre -rock, blues, country, jazz, gypsy-as if it’s the only one he plays.
@@wmdoux2108 He's not with us anymore sadly but I'd have to put Roy Buchanan in the same category or rather categories 🎸✌️
He is! Saw him with the Brothers here in Charleston in 1993. It was the scariest thing to see him and Warren together!
Wow this guy needs a manager. He should be near the top of the list of best guitar players and I don't think he's even on it that's a crime.
jack is so awesome, no crazy expensive bottleneck slides or obscure picks or pedalboards & the like, man just oozes amazing playing out of whatever rig he touches
Elite top drawer. The world has a lot of excellent guitar players, then there is this man. Not but a few, as in less than a handful alive today can do what we just saw on this clip. Thank you.
The sound of 'Merica, is it not? Sounds like a hot steam locomotive blowin' through that thick southern air.
@Spiral Architect I can't see the replies to which you are responding, but I can probably infer their essence. For what it's worth, these American ears hear a distinctly southern sound too. I love your comment and think it's spot on. You may already be familiar with her, but if not here is some more great music, this time from a rockin' southern church lady: ua-cam.com/video/JeaBNAXfHfQ/v-deo.html
Southern man, slide is associated with the deep south. Texas to Appalachia
Its spelled AMERICA , stop dumbing us down
@@gibsondrummer Exactly. I hate seeing "'murica" et. al. because it's always a derogatory remark and holds that connotation. Anyone who doesn't realize and appreciate that the thin peice of paper of the US Constitution is the only thing in the way of the scumbag international banksters getting their "new world order", aka worldwid communism, is an imbecile. Cheers from that glorious Southland and Louisiana in particular P[>
Jack can play Duane's licks and call out where it came from . He's a master player and we're fortunate to be able to hear him make that old Les Paul ( SG ) sing .
Twelve minutes and fourty nine seconds of goosebumps and tingling down the spine.
I f-ing love Jack Pearson
Statesborough Blues hit me in the heart. Blinking back tears. I love this man.
I'’ll bet this made Duane’s day...wherever he rests!
I'm extremely impressed at how consistent his foot tap tempo is. It's steady like a train the whole time
And never loses that pick between knuckles .. 😂. Awesome playing… 🤘
❤I know❤
Never heard slide as incredible is this.
Jack Pearson, extra greasy!
I feel like I just went to church and school at the same time.
4:50 ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!
That is absolute Mastery. Damn.
Most complete guitarist to play in the Allman brothers band. Guy can literally play any style of music and play it well. His leads on the Allmans tracks were original and out of this world.
In the world of guitarists, there is Jack Pearson...and then there is everyone else.
30 seconds in and the best damn dog gone guitar I’ve heard in 2019. If I could play half this good I wouldn’t speak id just carry a guitar everywhere.
Did you see the Firebird one? That tone was righteous as well..
Haha
I'd settle on playing one fourth as good as Jack. Duane, Jack and Johnny W. are all in a separate class of players.
IT's just crazy how good this guy is... Honestly... I love his attitude, tone, and talent.
Jack is one of the few worthy of taking Duane’s place on slide in the ABB
Yes indeed
you bet, among the few.
THE most underrated musician I know of. Everybody that loves guitar should know who Jack Pearson is. I never get tired of this guy.
Steely Dan Jack Pearson along with Terry Kath and Frank Marino. Most underrated all time yet three of the greatest ever.
GOD DAMN. this gave me chills. that guitar is THE BLUES
Jack Pearson = The 🐐 GOAT! His playing gave me a flashback to the movie Crossroads with Ry Cooders slide part. That tone is huge! Wow!
Jack is such an underrated, lesser known guitar player... but man he's good!
Jack Pearson is the best blues guy that you've never heard of. Absolutely incredible.
Ol Jack is so good, it's stupid...Been working on slide all week but it's gonna take me a few more years of weeks to get even in the ballpark. And Duane, he was just a kid, you know. Kind of magic that happened at all; it's powerful stuff.
Blues players always fascinate me with their single mindedness and dedication to the musical form, a lot like flamenco player. Great fun watching him connect with the instrument.
A masters master.
A teachers teacher.
Sweeeeeeeet sounds 🔥🎸
Jack is just as much a treasure as the SG.
Jack is phenomenal. The Allman Brothers Band is the best Southern Rock Band ever. Thank you.
One of the best bands… no regional tag needed
@@stevenchilders1285 It refers to the genre of music, google it.
@@VonBluesman I know, however the Allmans hated the term. My point is that they are one of the best bands, period. regardless of classification.
amagawd, 1/5 way in, my hearts already melted, my face grinnin' and feelin' supa fuzzy... blissful
Jack hands down one of the all timers!!💯🎵🎶
Jack Pearson and Derek Trucks are the next best thing to a modern day Duane Allman
The tone of my grandmas wood stove blazing on a cold Adirondack night.
Colby W. Nice...love the image
Dude, loved that.
I think this is the best guitar video i've seen in my life
One of the best slide players I’ve ever heard
What's really cool is that Jack does a little Duane and then has a ton of his own stuff with that same great tone! Maybe even some stuff Duane might have played had we not lost him.
What the hell !!! This stuff is Great ! The hammer of the gods droped hard on this can not believe my ears :) Thank you. Thank you. Thsnk you ;)
Why haven't I heard of this guy before now??? Incredible player!
“It’s a wonderful guitar.” From the cat that plays Fender Squier Strats. Jack makes any guitar “wonderful.”
dont be fooled he has a bunch of great guitars
SGAR LIFE I know he does, used fo see them make appearances when he 👍was with the Allman Brothers. Which makes it even stranger that he plays the Squier live so often now. He’s not getting any monetary benefit from it so why leave the big guns at home 🤷🏼♂️😂
@@Bamagolfandguitar awesome! its funny I do not like his Squire tone at all...he is a great player but having owned many squires and fender strats myself squire lacks the rich twang and chime...I love it when he plays a Gibson style guitar etc. happy Holidays
@@Bamagolfandguitar well, theres the benefit of if it gets stolen or damaged who cares its just a squier. Lol hes just an older dude whose impressed that the budget stuff actually works these days as opposed to when he started.
Mr. Pearson is an American treasure. No, he's a treasure for all fans of fantastic music.
Woke up this morning and watched Jack Pearson play Statesboro Blues on duane's sg...priceless
✌💜 y'all
I know a guy named Brian wood!
OMG!!! This guy is incredible!!!! He definitely deserves to play the masters guitar!!!!!
Duane was great but he didn't live long enough to be a master...
@@INUAGAIN There is always someone like you. Duane is a master, he completely changed slide guitar, to this day people are still using his playing as their inspiration.
@@INUAGAIN So Hendrix isn't a master?
@@INUAGAIN Duane was, is, and always will be the greatest slide player ever! Duane accomplished more than anyone else in his short 24 years on this earth and the fact we’ve still talking about him, the fact that he inspired many, and so many great players greatly respect, praise and were influenced by him to this very day proves my point!
Jack's one of my all-time favorite guitarists. Such a class act.
I didn't know JP was a legendary figure when I first saw this clip, but you can tell he's a special guitar player
The guy is amazing.... Agree with so many here.... Jack should be considered to be one of the best slide players around...
Humility, grace and class. Jack is a one of a kind musician and person, we’re lucky to be around in the same time period as a person such as Mr Pearson.
No doubt about that. Jack, Warren and Derek all great pickers yet even greater people.
Gave me chills to hear Duane's guitar with that sweet tone sing out. I can only imagine the chills Jack got playing her. So great to hear one of the few guitar players I'd say is worthy of playing Duane's gtr make it ring out like it's been played day after day for years!
I've just been introduced to this man's playing, and I almost have trouble believing it as I watch him. He is constantly connected to the instrument, the whole "the guitar becomes an extension of yourself" incontrovertibly applies to him. He's speaking THROUGH the guitar, like on Hendrix level shit, to me, and I don't gravitate towards slide/bluegrass/country playing, but this man's touch is undeniably Divine.
That was sick. Pearson’s the man
The twang on this guitar gave me goosebumps
Jack is such a humble man. Top notch playing!
Thanks for posting!
Jack is GOOD! Real GOOD
That is some authentic slide hes playing there!! Beautiful!!
I saw Jack play at the Station Inn in March of this year. Awesome, show, awesome venue. Met some great people in line and sitting at the tables. Jack just had a seat by the bar after.
Genuine soul
Back in 99 I was fortunate enough to see Jackie with the ABB at the Beacon Theatre, being a Jersey guy I had never heard him play before. I’ve seen the brothers so many times I can’t count the shows I’ve seen. Jackie and Dickey were on fire that night and when it came time for “Stormy Monday” Jack’s solo blew the roof off the place! Stormy Monday is one of my favorite tunes and I’ve seen it done by many artist, including Clapton, but I have never seen it done with the searing tone, endless sustain, and melodic vibrato that Jack did that night. What an awesome player and gentleman!
Pearson always makes it look so easy. It is as natural to him as breathing.
mr Pearson, a deep and honest thank you. Heavenly! It brings joy to my soul
“fall off the notes”. Love it. What freak’n ears.
Just watching Pearson's smooth technique with no sound is incredible. Incredible feel the man has. Wow.
Now this is what I call a MASTER!!!
Clicked “like” before I even heard a note. Jack Pearson NEVER disappoints!
It’s cool how he balances the horn on his thigh when he plays. Pullin that sg neck closer.
Gotta love that southern slide gitfiddle sound
This dude is FUCKIN KILLIN IT
Duane would’ve loved Jack
Jack Pearson and a touch of Duane; where's my Double-Love button to click!?!? Chris
This guy did this guitar justice !! 😎🤘
Just a wonderful guitar player, his slide playing is so clean and beautiful.
Out of space... & back to it again. Holy fuck, what a player...
Dear lord this man is the best slide player I’ve heard since Duane
Except you forgot Derek Trucks
The sound of a guitar master.
beautiful
Never heard of Jack until 1/2 hour ago but WOW...I'm a fan!!! Just gorgeous playing.
Flare4roach check out our other interviews with him-especially the one with the Flying V. Jack is the absolute best.
same !!!
Have come back to this video many times now Love Allman Brothers, Love Jack !!! :)
What a beast
love this guys playing. so humble and incredible attention to detail
Nice how he adjusts his pick between his knuckles of his picking hand in the middle of a riff
Had no idea who he was when I went to an ABB concert in the late-90s. In fact, I was disappointed Warren wasn’t there. And then they played...
You took the thought out of my head,I believe it was '97.i too was bummed Warren wasn't there, didn't know who Jack was,he could definitely hold his own!
First time Jack played with them, Warren invited him to fill in temporarily for Dickey. When Warren left they called him to audition to replace Warren. When he finished Gregg asked Dickey what he thought. He replied, Either we hire him, or take lessons from him.
sweet.. clean.. just make that guitar sing.. thanks for sharing.
Amazing.
A musician's musician. Love the tone.
Tones nuts, right! Christ, hald the battle of playing an electric is getting a mean sound. I been trying for over 3 decades lol.
And Jack could walk in any music store and get that tone out of whatever’s sitting around 😂
@@matthewhorizon6050 It sure makes us guys that are trying hard really appreciate someone who has essentially mastered his instrument. I have always said IF I never got any better I would still love the time I put into it because it has given me such a love and admiration for the people that are truly great. Just like Jack Pearson!
