Jack is CRIMINALLY underrated and underappreciated. Who else with his ability plays a Squier Bullet strat by choice and makes it sound like a 50s Strat?
I was watching a video of him yesterday and was rapidly becoming a fan. Then he started playing slide. It took less than a minute for me to fall in love with the man. I watch the Songbirds Video of him playing Greg's SG and I was floored. It was the finest slide playing I've ever watched. I wouldn't hesitate to give Jack my last guitar if he needed it. Same with my amp.
He bends a note then as it’s dying he bends it higher… then again. He did it on the low string in reverse… he bent it down instead of up. A true master
Jack is so good. In Gregg Allman's autobiography, he says Jack is the one who sounded the most like Duane. He has his own amazing original style, too. Those lucky enough to see him live around Nashville know what I'm talking about.
Jack says a very important and often overlooked thing about Duane Allman's guitar genius: his standard playing was as good as Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Page, King (pick one or three), Garcia, Zappa, or McLaughlin, but it was his slide playing that set him above the rest. His session work was done November 1968 until his death in October 1971. In between the sessions that helped fund them, he played about 500 shows with the Allman Brothers Band starting in March 1969, dozens of which exist on tape in varying quality from great to completist only, but it's all inventive improvisation. Sure, variations, but to be so endlessly inventive that the same songs night after night isn't monotonous, it's still exciting, like seeing the Miles Davis Quintet. Jack has taken that inventiveness and command of varying styles, as well as being a student of Dickey Betts as well. They were a great duo for the couple years Jack was in the ABB, and he handed it off to Derek Trucks, himself a Duane Disciple (who likewise is always underrated as a standard player). I wish Jack were more well known, he's an exceptionally tasteful guitarist, and he makes Duane's Firebird sing like the master did once upon a time.
@@robotpizza I think it was because the band insisted on using 300 watt amps. Playing under that volume night after night is enough to give almost anyone tinnitus.

I could watch & listen to Jack play that absolutely brilliant sounding Firebird, over & over..So much so that I added the video to my library..Duane's 63 is a Masterpiece..Jack Pearson is a Masterpiece!!!
Jack has such a light touch, yet he smokes every thing he plays. I saw Jack back in 98 or 99 with the Brothers, when they did Stormy Monday, Jackie blew the roof off the Beacon Theatre. I have never seen that song played better by anyone anywhere. Thanks Jack!
He plays so different than modern players he is more playfully and adventurous both in sound and play...not as clean and monotone but lively and creative! Yess! Totally cool :):)
Jack plays like the kind of guy that never has to refret his guitars. Such a killer technique with a light touch. With my ham hands I can flatten a set of frets in a year. What a cool dude.
Love Jack Pearson! And he loves guitar and music! I’m with the others...I vote you give that one to him!! A player like him deserves a player’s instrument like that!! ✌🏻🎼🎸
Wow! Jacks playing, the tightness/perfectness of the firebird, I'm blown away at how great an instrument that guitar actually is, a wraparound tailpiece, so, no adjusting to the intonation, but it's perfect to my ear, the smoothness of the pots, the hotness of the neck pickup, just Wow! Thank you for posting this wonderful experience for us all to share.
@josh grant I still don't see any slots for the saddles to slide (adjust), and it sure looks like the sting ball end catches to me (like an old wrap around). Have pictures but can't paste onto youtube comments. So, yes, there is cast in compensation, but short of milling or filing away, or adjusting set screws to shorten or lengthen the overall distance, no way to adjust (like a tun-o-matic). My point still being, I've played a lot of guitars and to find one that is this perfect without adjustment is a rare feat.
Firebirds are the very best for slide! I had a '68 Firebird I sold for $200 in '91. Of course I only paid $200 for it but how much is one now? $15,000 right? Oh well... I don't have money any more but I'd love to teach for you guys for free. 45 years teaching and playing pro.
Jack is my HERO. Always laid back. Always smiling. He is a lot like Derek Trucks in his demeanor. If people do not know how many styles Jack has mastered it is kind of scary. He can play with the Allman Brothers band, and he can kill Texas swing,or play note for note with Tommy Emmanual. Hes a freak of nature. And he usually does it with a Squire. His best sound is on his old 125 with a P90. I think its a 58 or59. Hes just a freak of nature and I love him. I have never heard him clam a bad note in any style. Keep smiling Jack. You are a contagius virus of happy.
Jeeeeeez...I beg your mr Pearson iv just discovered you at 39 with extensive music knowledge...just shows how much stuff was put out over the yrs..god bless you..
Jack is amazing. I saw him play with Allman bros in Vancouver Canada and he somehow convinced Dicky to play a strat and wouldn't you know it sounded like the Allman Bros.
Jack is my favorite guitarist of his generation: there is nothing he cannot play, in any genre short of classical perhaps (who knows?). This guitar does have an amazing set of responses perfectly suited to Jack's various rock and blues styles. Such bite to it! Dig the Texas swing blues from about 6 minutes to 7 minutes. Buy a Firebird, Jack, and blow us all away.
Man this guy coulda been so much bigger had he been more mainstream. THANK GOD that didn't happen he's doing just fine. Most people don't know the guys name outside of some musicians nationally and I'll bet everyone in Nashville knows what his favorite foods and daily driver are. This guy is a treasure. I wish I could jam with him at least once to make some kind of sense of my life. His live performances on YT are like one of those gold retirement accounts they're always trying to sell you. Love this guy so humble, so so talented.
One of the things that alot of young guitar players overlook is dynamics and touch..and Jack is a master of that ...if you notice Jack touch is very soft for the most part...this comes from countless hours of practice and study of the master's which Jack is now one of the master's that he grew up adoring....🎸🎸🎸
New video from Jack Pearson makes for an awesome Friday morning. Absolute legend and just too cool of a person. Love watching him play and laugh. Thanks for the vid.
I was lucky enough to see him play with the Allman Bros. Band in Vancouver in the late 90's near the end of Dickey Betts' tenure. It was a magical night. They opened up like the first album with Don't Want You No More/It's Not My Cross To Bear and when Gregg's distinctive voice came in it sent a shiver down my spine (and everyone else's in the theater too).
I was there with my 13 year old son. Never heard Jack before that night but him and Dickey were on fire as well as Oteil. There was no smoking and getting up out of your seat at the theatre, well that didn't work for the crowd, everyone lit their joint and got up to dance in aisles and in front of the stage.
Jack ......saw you play with the Allman's at the beacon one night and always felt you were the only guitar player that could keep Duane s shoes shined.......you can swing.....
When Dickey Betts was hassling Greg and the rest of the Allman Bros Band to accept Jack as their newest member he said words to the effect of you guys don't accept him into the band I'm going to have to PAY him for lessons!!!!!

Holy smokes! Jack made that look easy. The tone is so smoky in that guitar. The slide guitar part is insane!

Regrettably, Jack left the Bros cause of a hearing problem. I'm guessing that's what has held him back from becoming one of the greats like Duane.

Jack is living proof of tone not being in your gear, but in your hands and head, it doesn’t matter what guitar he plays!
Not tone. Technique. I see no tone knobs on his fingers. Bass treble mids. Tone is frequencies. No such thing as tone in fingers
