that was decades ago. modern german engineering means it is either shit by incompetence or shit becasue designed to break and be extremely expensive to repair. if you love the ideal of robust german engineering, get a korean or japanese car
I drove a Unimog that had been specially converted for cable installation. It had a cable pulling winch for about 3 tons. After three months of rain, in the middle of a forest, the Unimog was buried in mud up to its doors. With the help of the wind, I was able to pull myself out. Unimog means: universal motor device, and that's exactly what it is.
Oh man - you´re brining back memories - I had a military Unimog and it was so much fun riding it. A 4,5 ton convertible, ATV and at the same time a camping vehicle (because of the former radio-cabin) 🙂 Greetings from Germany, Chris
Great video. Could watch the both of you for hours. Don't know his name but the other guy also is very likeable. Such a great character and i also enjoy his way of explaining things.
I love these videos Conner, it feels like a proud father teaching his son about his job and how to be a true german, pls lots more of these videos, we as germans love them & your doing a great job
UNIMOG = Universal Motor Gerät = Universal Engine Device, its like a Pick Up Truck but with a very strong Chassis und Connections in the front, back and loading area for many different tasks. Its very cool.
Oh, when I was in the army in 1988/89, that was my lorry. It was another 10 years older than me. 40 litres. petrol and 1l oil per 100km. And a lot of reverse gears. All without a brake booster and power steering. You had to stand up and put both feet on the brakes to achieve sufficient braking power. I loved it!
Yours was probably the Unimog 404 also known as Unimog S. Looks similar. Only designed and built for the army and most of them equipped with 2.2 l petrol engine - indeed very thirsty….. The Unimog in this video is a model 406 with OM352 5.7 l 6 cylinder Diesel engine (OM = Oelmotor in the Mercedes Benz world). Also thirsty but not as bad as the 404 petrol engines…..
@@ThomasBökenbrink You Could use a /8 carburetor on the 404s engine, losing about 20° of climb capacity but gain half the fuel consumption. Been there done that. The 404s had a "Geländevergaser" (off-road carburetor) that was able to work in any position but achieved that by being a "watering can" a.k.a using ungodly amounts of fuel.
It's great to see you in the "Schwabenländle" again,since the first time you came to Germany a few years Back! And if you still in Leonberg and like movies,they have a movie Theater with the biggest IMAX Screen in the world! Cheers from Horb am Neckar!
Basically one of my three dream "cars". Porsche 911 for daily driving, Fiat 126p to cruise and Unimog 406 for transportation 😃 Video was awesome! It seems you had a great time!
Flashback to 46 years in the past when I had do drive one (model 404 S) during my time in Y-Tours (army). The Unimog had a tough time but except some little scratches and small dents everything was fine. And I'm quite sure it was not much younger than me at this time.
Pretzel needs Butter plus Schnittlauch. Then you peel the salt corns off (first thing newborns learn…), and then its perfect. You may swap butter and Schnittlauch for Frischkäse with Kräutern. These version are often sold in Railway stations like in Frankfurt / Main station for example. Huge improvement over „pure“. Try it ! (Oh and besides that my Unimog is a U1650 / U427).
It's funny how they tried to build a good agriculture vehicle and built perfect military vehicle. Sad that Germany lost it's ability to build great things (excluding some high precision companies such as Zeiss)
You are literally near my hometown in the black forest (schwarzwald) you visited calw and albstadt.. not far away from here. Maybe I have seen you somewhere 😅
I have never seen a person as full of life as you. Please stay as you are. Take a trip to "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" , a beautiful middle-age "town" in Germany. If you are bored, "Geiselwind" - Fun-Park is not far away.
Man youre reyll defying the stereotype we normally get from someone from the US, ya know loud etc... i ts cute that he asked if he can break teh Unimog :D my guy if anything breaks its your leg, im joking my guy!
why do all the pixel work if you can still read the Volvo license plate at 2:06... and at 2:41 together with 3:15 you can reconstruct it as from 2:06 one number is missing but shown at 3:15 from the Unimog... not going to write it here but who ever pixeled didn't do a good job...
I wonder if you can legally drive with that circular saw attached to the rear. Anything extending more than 1m beyond the rear lights needs to be marked with a red flag.
Thers a different set of rules for LOF (Land und Forstwirtschaftliche Zulassung) , so agriculturaly used Tractors and vehicles. Auxilliary equipment such as Plows, mowers or like here the Tabelsaw usually have a set of extra warning reflektors or lights on them when driven on bigger roads.
Interesting to learn about the Unimog, also for Germans. My cousin has an old one and at some point it catched fire and he had no money left to repair it. Probably it was his fault because honestly he is also a bit dull, as we are talking about saws 🪚👍😅
Mit Bier und Unimog durch den Wald. You're livin' the good life my friend!! 😉
Very open and well articualted guy! As a german I'm impressed :D
😅
Connor is the MAN...such a fine and positive Person
Conner: I´am not gonna brake it? 1:38
Every German: Laughts in german engeneering loud *never becaus it´s an UNIMOG*
brake = Bremse
to brake = bremsen
break = Pause / Unterbrechung / Bruch
to break = brechen / kaputt machen / pausieren
an old unimog no guarantee for new
Ich musste auch lachen..... Das einzige, wo man aufpassen muss ist die Frontscheibe :D

That was great.
I used to work in a MB Truck Workshop. I recommend not to drive on paved roads with locked diffs, this destroys the Transmission.
Can‘t agree more! Locked diffs are for difficult terrain and getting you out of the mess - never to be used on normal ground!!
Leonberg has it all: Altstadt, Dogs, Autobahn entries.
Or exits, which are pants soilingly short.
