Have been Cold Steel collector for over 30 years. Some of my favorites include: Imperial Tanto, Outdoorsman (carried for over 30 years bowhunting), Black Bear Sai Mai, S. Segal helmet breaker, Segal wakizashi, Cold Steel Seagal Signature Katana, Cold Steel Luzon Series Folding Knife, Bowie San Mai Laredo, San Mai Tai Pan (always wish that I had purchased the Imperial Tai Pan back then).
Yeah but let's not pretend like they're the same weapon they were 30 years ago man I just had a Bushman break on me I put my first Bushman through hell and the idea that my second one broke the tip within two weeks of owning it is absurd... Cold steel once the strongest sharpest production knife made now just more garbage... My tia pan I bought 10 years ago is a masterpiece, I seriously doubt it's the same quality dagger that it was then.
I really love to hear Lynn talk about Cold Steel designs. Listening to him talk about serrations convinced me to buy a folder with them, even though I have not been interested in one until now. I love his passion for martial blades. Unapologetic, and excited about things that other knife brands try to dance around. That is why Cold Steel Is an indispensable brand. Amazing designs, super tough construction, practical, capable, and super cost effective. I find I have more Cold Steel than anything else, and for good reason.
Exactly. He knows knives, he loves them and most of all he seems to have been putting all that knowledge and love to the Cold Steel products. I like that ...
I prefer a non serrated for everyday use but like the previous commenter said Lynn makes great points about self defense. Very nice knife and video. Thanks Cold Steel!
That slash from the beuty was a suprise, and in real life, I want HER as MY bodyguard, silent but deadly! I have some CS 2 sizes of Luzon, the smaller as a EDC, lost my Secret Edge 2 months ago, is somewhere in my home. But uses a Griek as a substitute for the smaller Luzon some times, or a mini Hunter, just reach down in the pocket pop the sheat off, no carry strap. The Tokyo Spike is a little to long for neck carry, so it's usually resting.
Love my Spartan. It's the right kind of heavy that I know I can end a situation quickly if it ever came to it, but it's not going to slow me down because it's unwieldy. Thankfully, I've only ever needed to use it in a utility sense. Love the quick deploy catch on it too. The blade is out and ready to go with zero effort...as long as I catch my pocket correctly, which when I miss I would attribute to my own inconsistency on the draw and not the knife.
Got the Spartan by a Holdout would go good with it. Its one of the only few Cold Steel folders I have yet to get. of the three or four tbat I don't own bit would like to this beast is ine of them for the reason they have it in the video , plain or/and serrated.

Love the Hold Out series. I wear the 3" and 4" models as my practical sgian dubhs. I really miss the 4" model and wish Cold Steel will bring it back. The 6" is a monster of a blade!
I have the Black Talon 2 serrated. It's unnerving how effective it is at rending material. With a dedicated Lansky CS sharpening rod, you have it made.
I prefer the non-serrated version and have the 4" Hold Out currently in my EDC rotation. Great, great knife. In my own (limited) testing I've had the serrated edges get caught up or bound in heavy clothing or layers of material. I'm always more afraid for my fingers than the blade, especially with Cold Steel, so it might be time to re-examine that. What better way to do so than to have you send me one?
cold steels serration pattern is not great and needs to be updated, the ones ive tested out have always failed to cleanly cut through stuff like bubble wrap while spydercos serrated blades are far superior and cut like an actual plain edge, also the tiny serrations on the cold steel break off very easily
Hi there! I shared it on Twitter. Is this enough? I never had a Holdout, but I am here to second what Lynn Thompson said about the serrations. I have two more than 30 years old Vaquero Grandes, made in Japan, simple but very sturdy backlock. I never had to sharpen this knives. If you think the knife gets a little dull, a little stropping on the backside of the serrations does enough to the steel, so it is sharp as hell again. I wrapped a üirce of leather around a broom stick, what is great for recurve blades, applied a little green compound, amd ready. #22aday Stay safe everybody, and stay blessed. Greetings from Germany!
Will you bring back medium one? Got a few hold outs in all sizes ( 4 hold outs ii, 2 hold outs iii and 1 hold out i) but my favourite is definitely medium one. Would love to have another xl, the one I have is plain edge so second one probably will be serrated. CS is my favourite company. Best tools/weapons ever!!! Love it

Always comment on these awesome videos. No other knife maker would dare to test their products like cold steel does. Cold steel knives live in all my bags and belts.
It’s to bad that when you have any issues they won’t be taken care of since GSM outdoors owns them and has the absolute worst customer service on planet earth, just keep ruining companies GSM…class act
I got a cold steel Rajah 2 about 10 years ago, and a couple of times I have been in a tough situation and pulled it out of my front pocket “I’m a big guy “ and I have seen trouble go away.
I circled back to cold steel… for quality, safety, offerings on large folders. I’ve got MANY MANY of the high $$ knives … rarely carry them compared to cold steel. Best for the money out there.
Outstanding! I own just about every CS product with the exception of a few units as I've been collecting/carrying for many, many years. CS is ALWAYS my go to EDC no matter what the task, CS NEVER let's me down. 🇺🇸 Semper Fidelis 🇺🇲
I love Cold Steel with all my heart been carrying them for almost 25 years. please stick with the company Lynn I'm 36 years old and just had my first son he's 7 months old now and I just gave him his first micro recon. I have him many more put up in the safe. please stick with the company Lynn please.
The Hold Out's and Talwar's and Recon 1's and Voyager's and Espada's and Ti-Lite's and Frenzy's and Counter Point's have always been my favorite Cold Steel Mega Folders to SDUEDC (Self-Defense, Utility, Everyday, Carry). :-)
Cold steel is the best damn folding knife for the price on the market. Thank you GSM for not tanking our beloved CS!! Please keep learning from Lynn. I will like share and am subscribed. 😉👍🏻
I've always enjoyed carrying a knife around with me. Not for self defence, but because it's a basic necessity in everyday life. I always seem to need one when I don't have one on me. I think the Hold Out would be the perfect knife to have for my next camping trip.
Really love that design. My list is the espada large, xl vaquero, rahja2, broken skull, code4 then on my hope to get list talwar and Holdout . My wish list is a 3v trail master
I love the talwar. I have the plain edge and recently ordered the serrated. The holdout will be next. You have a lot of my favorites in your collection. Awesome knives.
Gotta give some love to the Counter-Point XL as well. Probably one of the stoutest folders they make. But for EDC I prefer my 6" Ti-Lites. They are easier to live with and can be opened several different ways. The extra size improves the ergonomics (for me) and I'm curious if the same holds true for the Holdout.
Cold Steel, Thank you very much for uploading this entertaining and informative video. Could you show us how to hone these serrations with simple tools, please? Thank you very much in advance.
My Cold Steel Swift has so many of the same features, with a shorter blade. However, the handle shape is better in my opinion. I'd have to wield the Hold Out with it's straight handle to know. I do like the size, though!
liked, shared, I'm subscribed already for some time ! Great videos! keep it up! growing my collection every time I get a chance to buy, still need the hold out :D Vaquerro already saved my life once.
I love ❤ coldsteel been a customer since I first heard their name decade's ago...thank you Lynn and team for making product of top quality I can afford. Happy New Years
I'm absolutely delighted about returning of the Hold Out!!! It was a big grief for me that circumstances turned out like I was too late to buy full serreted Hold Out when it was already taken out of production. That time I had to choose between Hold Out and Talwar 5.5 and I chose the second one. Also, I could spend a little more money and buy both knives, but I didn't, so I still feeling regretted about it.
I have to ask out of curiosity, why did you discontinue the Cheap Shot 130 crossbow? I own one and it's awesome, I'm curious about why it was discontinued?
Hold Out is best ever for splinters. Nothing else quite so thin at the tip with a tiny point. Verdict 3" for normal chores, Air Lite for .5" longer length (minimum for paring knife chores), and SR1 Lite for standard 4" paring knife chores and potentially life saving pry bar duties.
I LOVE your guys's & girls's products! Especially since in my State there is an open-carry law that's in place BECAUSE, I'm literally in love with my Cold Steel SPARTAN!! & of course my Rajah 2!!! The only downside is that, I can't carry them out of state.
I have the Vaquero 5 1/2 in and the 6in Ti light but not the 6in hold out , sure would be nice 👍🙏!!!. I love ALL COLD STEEL KNIVES!!!!. Now I'll like and share!!.

I've always carried a non serrated but there were some damn good points in this video to reconsider.
I have to admit, Lynn describing the Hold Out made me hard
lol I read your comment right after I posted. That is too funny. Lynn was born for what he does.

How do you sharpen serrated edges?
Then what about serrated Kris blades?
Who does Not NEED one of these? Like-Like-Like!
Cold Steel has made a name for themselves, simply cannot go wrong buying one of their products.
