"A doctor once told me I feel too much, I said so does god, that's why you can see the Grand Canyon from the moon" this just makes me cry man I don't know
A doctor told me once you feel too much, I said so does GOD that's why u can see the Grand Canyon from the moon. I saw that written in a book in a tea house when I was 15 with your name underneath and it saved my life, I've lived thru that quote for the last 7 years. I didnt know there was an entire spoken word poem that went with it, and i am in tears. Thank you Andrea Gibson, your words touched me in ways throughout the years that no others have understood. To find out it wasnt just a quote, but a full poem all these years later has me in tears. Your art is beautiful.
That's amazing. What does that line mean to you? I have this poem memorized; I adore it, but I can never attach any possible meaning to that line. I just don't know how to interpret it.
@@noone-re3zp I’m not the original commenter, but that line speaks to me too. Here are a few fragments of how I would describe what it means to me: Feeling too much isn’t a flaw, it’s the purpose. God is the sum of everything we mortals feel & have ever felt & ever will feel. Our emotions are what connect us to each other and to the world beyond ourselves. The Grand Canyon is astonishing and beautiful, a scar carved across the world by the steady unstoppable flow of a river (of tears), a scar too improbably huge & awesome to reasonably exist, but too immense to deny.
@@bouncingbean That is gorgeous! I appreciate your reply so much. Thank you.
@@noone-re3zp Thank you for your feedback! I’m so glad you like it.
@@bouncingbeanwow...looks like Andrea is not the only one here with such gift of words. Your interpretation helped me to understand more deeply. Not just the poem, but perhaps myself as well. Going to sit with that for a while.
Hopefully you share your gifts with others. ❤
This poem really leaves me breathless! "My gills are adjusting to the air" ... Her tone and diction are simply marvelous!
Your words are like arrows bandaged in song. Thank you for pressing forward and sharing. Thank you for keeping your aim true.
"And a few really good friends to skip moon rocks to"
I wish for that too.
Why can't I stop listening to this??
Andrea Gibson, you're AMAZING!
"Wonder if the wrecking ball was trying to run its fingers
soft across the bricks
but its head was just too heavy?"
I liked that part a lot. I don't know if what I think of the meaning is really the meaning but I love it. I never meant to hurt him with my love but I did. I guess I just loved so much :/.
Still one of my all time favorite poems to this day
"tell me how the candlewax thanks the flame"....damn. I'm dizzy and you are from outerspace, Andrea. Thank you.
"I'll tell you these poems, they're my birthmarks." Amen.
Andreas powerful words are exactly what started me on my own pathway as a poet.
So much love
This poem is a miracle and a salve.
The way she says "Angela" makes me want to cry. It feels like she has to push to say her name. Like there is too much weight for her to carry it. So much feeling. So exposed. Its beautiful. I guess her wish came true. She is transparent.
Andrea uses ‘They’ pronoun.
“A doctor once told me I feel too much, I said so does God”.. girl what?? Omg I wish they had a snap emoji !
I LOVE THIS POEM THE MOST OF ANYTHING IN THE UNIVERSE.
My favorite one and the setting is so very beautiful and appropriate. THANK YOU!
So. Very. Gifted.
Such a dense poem in that it's so full! There's no way to catch it all in one listen
I love this so much. I just discovered Andrea and their work is so so amazing.
I searched my name and went to the oldest post and this was it and I love it
love this. amazing poetry as always, with an awesome new way of relaying it to the world.
So beautiful. The poem, the scenery, the tone, beautiful.
I wonder why. Why did God bring my eyes to cry. Why I listened to each and every lie? Why? Did he bring me you? Someone I thought I trusted so brand new. Someone as beautiful to brake me. Someone as beautiful that I yearn to see. Why? Did he make me fall in love with you? Someone that broke me never to be new. Someone as bright as the Goddess sun. Someone that tore me never to be undone. Why? Did he tempt me with a heart?
so brilliant. thank you andrea for every one of your words!

does any one have any recomendments for some similar talented slam poets?
ii love Andrea. She performed at UNC-Greensboro and "Ashes" left everyone stupefied.
Dear Andrea,
If you see this, my girlfriend and I saw you for this first time in Seattle at the Showbox. Your beautiful poetry spoke to us both that night. I am an aspiring audio engineer currently studying at The Art Institute of Seattle, and I would love to be able to work with you if given the chance.
Sincerely,
Casey Andrews
p.s. This was the best way I could figure sending a message to you personally
she carves me out and beauty trickles in.
Beautiful.. in many ways.
When John Stuart Mill suffered from a nervous breakdown and depression, he found solace in reading poetry.
A while ago I would have laughed at the idea of poetry helping me, but since discovering Andrea Gibson's work, I understand.
Riveting, I closed my eyes and just got lost in the words.
Wow.
I told my friend when he sent me this that I didn't really like poetry.
I now have a favorite poet.
Beautiful..
I don't know how to comprehend this...
too much for me
You're a big inspiration Andrea! So sad that I have my own performance when you're in the Netherlands! (Poetry circle Groningen). Hope I get another chance to see you live!
this is astounding!!
"Go ahead throw me at the storm like a fisherman's prayer." Nice, some of these lines are not in the Madness Vase Kindle version.

I had this on full screen. After the poem, the screen refused to surrender control back to me.
Andrea...you have hijacked my phone and must serenade my device with your poems til it no longer has the strength to hold the screen.
She’s a legend.
They are
I officially love poetry.
Fantastic
Lucas Miller just told me the poem made for not your daughter, but their son. Thank you so much!

Dear God, dear Andrea, you gut me whole
👍😘
i love all her stuff but , im so lost on this one you guys ..
This story has peeled from my bones
How does she write like this? It's incredible, breathtaking and completely enthralling.
Thank you . . .
Wow! Eloquent.
This is great. I'm loving it. I clicked the link to this because I was particularly interested in the title, though. Have you read the novel Ishmael? I had to read it for an assignment in school, and there was a jellyfish story. Although I thought the book was a bit boring, it was very influential to the way I see the world, just as your poetry has. :)
Throw me into the storm like a fishermans prayer..
I wanna be there w all the bugs flying around.
❤
holy. shit.
BAHA my name is in this poem. yay.
love*
"Do you ever think about God's ears?"
