@@Anil18834why is that? Can you tell?

    • @Anil18834
      @Anil18834 Місяць тому +2

Let's begin with the fact that every country that isn't petroleum self sufficient has a diplomatic relationship with OPEC countries and its affiliates.
OPEC countries are also extremely powerful. For example Saudi Arabia and the UAE rank in the top 10 most powerful countries in the world. That means they're more powerful than the rest of the 185 other countries... and power, always comes at the expense of the less powerful.
The US, like every other country, use their resources (I should say ours, I'm American) that means military, diplomatic, intelligence, influence, etc., to further their own interests. They do this to increase their wealth, for their national security, and so their citizenry live more comfortably.
For example: India chose to continue to buy oil at a discount from Putin , even if he was attacking Ukraine and we all saw the war crimes he's committing in his play to take over a sovereign nation. He did this for his vanity, but also for the benefit of Russia I might add.
India chose to do this, because oil at a discount helps all of its citizenry, even if, that purchase gives Russia money to pay for its war.
The US doesn't set out to support autocratic governments (even if its own republican party has been hijacked by autocrats). The US has diplomatic relationships with SOME of the OPEC countries. It does this because it furthers its own interests. It does this despite the fact that autocracy is the only thing that works in the Middle East. It's in their heritage, it's in their culture. It's why the Arab Council created by Lawrence of Arabia to assert the independence of the Middle East failed. It's why while we were all hopeful during the Arab Spring, and some heads of state were thrown out, nothing really changed.
The only working democracy in the Middle East is Israel. Which for example, currently has Netanyahu in power, with an ultra-right government that only has a 32% approval rate. But its citizens are doing what every mature democracy does:
Wait until there are elections, instead of overthrowing the government.
      Bottom line is:
The US doesn't "SUPPORT autocratic governments in the Middle East " it trades with some of them and maintains a diplomatic relationship with them.
There's a difference as to countries the US supports. Examples:
-The EU is supported by the US through NATO.
-The UK is supported through "The Special Relationship ".
-Israel is supported no longer through money, because Israel has become wealthy in its own right, but with weapons.
-Colombia is supported through "The war on Drugs". Etc , etc...

Autocraticc Governmentts, the monarchies are easy to deal with. You just need to get the approval of one man in charge, unlike a democracy where the people influence the foreign policy and big decisions. Imagine if there are democracies across the middle Easst, all those countries will go to war with isreall since most of the populations of those countries hate the Zionisst state.

    • @Anil18834
      @Anil18834 29 днів тому +3

@@skmediaGP The Arab countries don't have a democracy, because of the US's influence? They don't have democracy because historically and culturally they have never had one. At least, not a working democracy.
This is why, though Laurence of Arabia established the Arab Council, so they could use their head-start against the British, the Arab Council collapsed.
It is also why, while we were all hopeful during the Arab Spring, and several heads of state were deposed, nothing really changed.
The only working democracy in the area is Israel.
Also, keep in mind the US is just the first world superpower, not the only one. Iran and Syria are aligned with Russia, Saudi Arabia is now building better relationships with China. If the US were to cease exerting influence in the region, who do you imagine would fill the vacuum?

So, I'll use the example of Palestine, since it seems that's what you're talking about:
Palestine was under British control when the Brits decided to create the state of Israel.
Before the British Empire, for centuries, it was under the Ottoman Empire.
Before the Ottoman Empire, it was under the Islamic Caliphate. Please note the Islamic Caliphate didn't just have the territory of Palestine handed to them. They took it by force, as has everyone before them AND after them. This created one of many Diasporas of the Jews, as the Caliphate forced everyone to convert to Islam, including Palestinians, under pain of death.
Before the Caliphate took over, it was under the control of the Byzantine Empire.
Before the Byzantine Empire, it was under the control of the Roman Empire.
Before the Roman Empire, it was under the control of the Greek Empire.
Before then, it was in the hands of the Persian Empire. Before then, it was under the Babylonians. Before then, it was under the Assyrian Empire.
      Bottom line is:
      A. Palestine has never been independent.
      B. Independent countries fight for and WIN their independence.
      C. The Jews were already there before the Palestinians arrived. The word Palestinian derives from Philistines, which meant Foreigner. These "foreigners" were given that name by the Jews, who were already there.

The region was populated before the Jews arrived & well before the land was named Palestine.
Only the Jews were driven out by the Romans & not all Semites are/were Jewish.
Apply your 'logic' to the US & you'd be encouraging the Native Americans to rise up to reclaim their land.
It's interesting that through B. you are advising Palestinians to fight for their independence rather than to negotiate.

The US has meddled in the Middle East for a long time. It has prevented its democratic conversion, and the region has been inflamed since the beginning of the 20th century until now. They have supported Gulf monarchies and certain dictators and assisted in numerous coups. Indeed, they did not start this action at the beginning of the century; it was Britain and France who began it with the Treaty of Lausanne in 1912 and the Sykes-Picot Agreement in 1916. Afterwards, the GP came as heirs to the colonial empires that had become exhausted by their continuous wars. The US's active intervention in the Middle East began effectively after the 1950s and 1960s, since the establishment of Israel. The region moves from one problem and conflict to another, and the situation will never calm down.

Right. "Middle East " is Euro centric. But when you call it "West Asia", I ask you: West of what?
To choose any one cardinal point, one must still choose a center.
I'd argue since this is a BBC report, and there's a historical reference, that it is also OK to call it the Middle East. Much in the same way that even though I'm Colombian-American, I accept sentences like: "the old world", or "Colombus discovered America ", even if it had already been here, people were living in it, and there's evidence of others having "discovered" it before him.

Expecting the BBC to do actual objective journalism is like expecting the sun to rise from the West instead of East, both hopeless and unrealistic. First of all that’s the wrong map of the Middle East, you excluded Sudan, Algeria, Libya, Somalia, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia. Also you used the wrong map of Egypt, it’s missing two of its southern cities. You just can’t help your colonialism instincts can you? Removing those countries from the map won’t deny your atrocities in them. And yes the short answer is oil.

If you have watched the video, you see that it just pictures Turkey as part of the Middle East. The only reason they say Turkey is in the Middle East is because of the religion. From this perspective, we will be less Middle Eastern due to the growing number of deists, agnostics, and atheists in the younger generation. Another similar example: some Europeans don't really consider Russians as Europeans because of the dictatorship regime. If Russia becomes a democracy one day, every European will embrace Russians as fellow Europeans. :d

The way we live and the way we think is so different. Things we eat, the way we eat them; things we drink, alcohol consumption… The way we live, cities, women… I mean the only similarity is the religion and it’s also so different from what they believe. This is the most comprehensive synopses I've seen on the subject. I've been talking about this for years and I find most people fail to see the big picture.
It's normal to be moved by the pain and misery in Gaza. Most voters don't realize that whether trump or Biden wins, whether Netanyahu commits war crimes, or a decent person takes his place, the US (the country) has an alliance with Israel (the country) because we need them in order for us to maintain the status quo.
We Americans as a people are too self centered and too ignorant about foreign policy to understand that our country is the first world superpower due to far more than ingenuity, hard work ethic and GDP.
Is it pretty? No, it's a nasty business. But then again power is ugly, and in the end, the more power we have, the more money we make. Yet somehow, we (middle America), in our self centered perspective, think we don't earn enough, because we have no dimension of really how poor and middle class people live in other countries. Somehow, we end up electing presidents who promise us a better economy, but we don't question how the sausage is made.
