Pumpkin B sides are better than other band's whole catalogs.
I’ll second that 🤍
Oh for sure
I used to listen to this all night long while working in the computer lab on my campus college. It’s imprinted on my brain and takes me back to those days instantly.
F yeah . We all that one song
I used to play this all the time back in college too, late nights, staying up, this was always on rotation.
what is ur life like now
Billy's voice isnt always the best on live, but he really nailed this one
nesfan8 honestly I prefer the vocals on this to the recorded version
@@jacobpetersen7219 This was the era where he started to pay more attention to be in tune :)
My voice is way worse live. Billy kicks ass! Beautiful song!
My thoughts exactly
Yeah, I think it partially depends on what part of the tour it is. If you can catch SP in the beginning, his voice probably isn't as worn out. That's common with all vocalists though. Corgan's singing was really bad live for Siamese Dream, but I think he started to improve around Mellon Collie. There's an old acoustic live recording of them playing "Mayonnaise," where Corgan's voice cracks during the high note. You can hear Billy and James laugh it off, which I thought was pretty cool at the time.
Love that D'arcy is finally on an acoustic bass for once.
I love this song so much. Such an amazing version live.
1:19 Billy's "grrrrrr" is the best....
That’s what’s so great about this band was the subtle nuance of moments like that that don’t appear in the recorded version.
Remember the idea that D'arcy couldn't really play bass!?!??! You watch these acoustic clips and you realise the standard that was expected back then!
What do you mean??
@@makaylarose3058 I think they mean she’s perfectly playing in the pocket. The bassline is simple but who cares? It sounds sweet and is executed nicely. Not to mention, the bass really drives this particular song.
If darcy was a dude he wouldn’t be judged as harshly. Plenty of bass playing guys who just strum the same note to keep the time. Adam Clayton ( u2) Michael Anthony ( van halen) gene simmons (kiss) lots more. We will never get to hear her real talent as she played what she was told to play by B.C though she often, during live performances, deviated away from the studio bass lines, which I though we’re more melodic but fulfilled the function of a pocket player
Man I just love how imperfect his voice is. Wabi Sabi at its finest
this song is powerful
I still hope and pray for the day that I can experience this song live. Not sure why it's never been regularly on setlist rotation, it's literally one of the best songs they ever made. Loved it from the moment I heard it back in early 1996 on my 1979 cassette single.
Billy exudes sensuality
otherwordly, gorgeous song. i haven't heard any band make this type of music.
joy division?
@@turdzillaatemysn nah man, this is soooooooo different.
@@turdzillaatemysn I was actually thinking about joy division for this song in the way the bass drives the melody and the guitar is off doing rhythmic accents with relentless drums
@@knightsonofjackyou’re right. It’s quite reminiscent of Dead Souls
awesome live version, love this song for it's simplicity and strength
I've never heard this live, so I was excited to hear/watch this. "Set the Ray to Jerry," was definitely 1 of my favorite Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness b-sides. I did see them that year, right after JC was arrested. Whomever was the replacement drummer sped everything up and not in a good way. However, this sounds really good and very close to the original drumbeat.
Darcy really kicks ass in this
The coolest song ever.
Yep, you nailed it.
So goddamn good!
godlike
Magical SP deep cut, they may not have had Jimmy during 97-98 but they were great live during this era
Beautiful!!!!!
.. Sorrowful and beautiful.. in here
Masterpiece
que vivan los smashing!!!! lolapaloza 2015 Argentina
so spiritual
Wish Jimmy was there. James just holding it down!
amazing
Epic epic epic rock god.
I hope D'Arcy, Iha and Jimmy get new project together
A baby?
And I ... forever here
God.
Billy is tripping mad balls here. This was his Molly phase
Pretty sure the pumpkins were super strict about drugs on this tour, especially given that this is post Jimmy’s overdose and Johnathan Melvoin’s death.
@@seanclarke8255 Billy was doing molly with Johnny Depp and other celebs during this era while he was grieving. He got sober in the 2000s
Check out the version from “Zolof, the rock and roll destroyer”
"You can't have everything you want" -Morrissey
how the fuck have I never seen this
D'arcy can play
That drummer can't do that drum beat like Jimmy. Oh and also, did Billy smoke a joint before singing this song?!?!?
Most can't!
1.02 - 1.09
This is better than anything in like Mozart’s discography and it’s just a throwaway song
I didn't notice this until now...but is he high?
David Humphrey yeah he was definitely on E for this show. In some other vids you can see him rolling his jaw a lot
@@lilstinker1949 whats E?
Luis Roman Mendoza Garfias ecstacy
its always about drugs isnt it. you guys are idiots.
More often then not, you don't need drugs to enjoy great music
Though you might need great music to enjoy drugs
I want you please
Billy's on acid🧐🙃😁
Dude is no where near jimmy in drumming sorry
well that was jimmys fault
Who's playing drums here? Sorry, just not the same groove as JC.
