Fun Fact: Lupita Nyong'o was really afraid of cats she had to do cat exposure therapy to get ready for filming. She eventually ended up loving cats because of the cat actor she adopted her own orange tabby named Yo-Yo.
Part of the reason Frodo is so good at being quiet is because he is a service animal. With Lupita’s character, her animals stays with her at all times and that’s why Frodo is trained to be on a leash, remain quiet in crowded situations, and provide comfort when someone is in distress. This last reason is why the cat was being held by people in the puppet theater when they first bring Lupita over after the first attack. Reuben’s instinct was to help people and he was using Frodo for that comfort. It’s also the reason why Eric gravitates to him and follows him, because that first look Frodo gave him when he comes out of the subway entrance made Eric feel better. It’s also the reason why Frodo went after him when he went to get the meds, because he can recognize Eric’s distress and he’s trying to help.
I believe Frodo’s presence in the movie is like a guardian angel, everytime you think something bad is gonna happen with Sam or Eric, Frodo is there and he guides them sometimes I felt like, and also, cats are VERY intelligent and intuitive and if a cat senses not to make any noise they’re gonna be stealth as hell
One thing I really appreciate about this movie is that we get not one but TWO scenes where someone has a panic attack, and not once are they told to suck it up, get over it, or anything like that. Eric is not portrayed as weak in any capacity, and Sam never once condemns him or abandons him or even so much as looks at him sideways. She actually takes him seriously and actually comforts him and does her best to calm him down so they BOTH can keep going forward and get out alive. It's so refreshing, and it's actually realistic for once. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this for the first time. It's just cool. Also the CAT! Two kitties were used for Frodo, Niko and Schnitzel. You gotta watch the behind the scenes with those two! One of them was better for calmer close up shots, and the other was better for the action/peril scenes. Also Lupita and Joseph both admitted to having a favorite cat (the same favorite cat in fact,) but have absolutely refused to reveal which one lol. Highly recommend the BTS of all three movies!! John is a GENIUS!
the idea of surviving in the wake of seemingly impossible odds has always been at the heart of these movies, so to put a terminally ill patient at the core of a story was so fascinating - as if it’s pushing the idea of “what does it mean to survive” to its ultimate limits
Apparently, there was a scene they cut that explained that when Eric was coming out of the water in the subway, he was actually attempting to commit suicide. In a way, I hate that they cut it because it really deepens their bond. He needed her just as much as she needed him. 😢 Btw- Nikki, I'm the SAME way! I can watch hundreds of people die in a movie and be upset, but the second an animal is in jeopardy, It emotionally obliterates me!! ❤ 🐈 😻 🐈⬛️ 😺 🐱 😸 🐈
Also same 1million people just died? “Oh nooooo” 1 dog in a dangerous situation “OMFG SOMEONE SAVE HIM!!…RUN LITTLE PUPPY YOU BETTER NOT DIE PLEASE!!!”
This film becomes really heartwarming when you take away the monsters. It turns into a film about a kindhearted stranger helping a dying woman fulfill her final wish and making her happy before the end.
Fun Fact: Did you recognize the gentleman who We saw at the theater and who also helped Eric into the boat? His name is Djimon Hounsou. He was in Quiet Place 2. When they arrived on that island he was the one who welcomed them and explained how they got their on boats.
This movie came out during the height of my incurable cancer treatments and wow. I still haven't gotten over it. It takes on such a powerful difference when you know you're dying. Plus, Frodo is the best character ever!
There were a bunch of short videos after this movie of people testing their cats by running around with them to see if they made noise. Most of them would not have survived the invasion 😂😅😂😸
Don’t forget that when we met Eric he was coming out of a flooded subway station and had clearly been under there for a very long time. Less than 24hrs later he has to go back down there and I think he handled it pretty well.
the water is making a sound barrier, same method oil rigs use in the ocean, they have constant sound surrounding the noise of constant banging at the bottom of the ocean floor. its an awesome method i recommend reading about it
I love that this is almost like a love story, a meeting of soulmates, not in a romantic sense, but in a I needed to meet you to live again sense, in a if I never knew you my life would have ended here, but when I was at the end of my rope and I was spiraling into that deep, dark place, you came and gave me the gift of one more day and another and another and I love you for it. The look of adoration he gives her after she gives him her sweater is so bittersweet but you can tell there are a million thank you's in it. It's so beautiful and so tragic.
I’ve seen all three of these in theater with my father and we have so much fun with them. I loved the first two but I adored how much heart this one had.

I wouldn't have. I have a dog and love her but my family is more important. I would have left my dog, gotten away from her to Dave my family. I would cry but the choice would be easy. You can't stop a dog from barking at scary sh!t. I wouldn't even try.

40:40-41:03 my favorite part 😂. Love you guys. Nikki, once you confirmed where you stood on pizza, you won my heart. Steve: 15 years of greatness with this lovely lady. Continued blessings to you both
I loved this movie more than 2. The first was fantastic, 2 was just ok(though the flashback to the start was awesome), but "Day 1" was just...perfect. I like to see how it was in the early days. The pair needed each other, and Eric was trying to kill himself when he saw Frodo and followed him to someone he thought was stronger, which is why he attached himself to them. I liked the expansion with the Death Angels. They appear to eat that plant fungus or whatever that grows around their "ships", so they don't attack people for food. There's also the GIGANTIC one we saw, so is our main group going to see them when QP3 comes out? Also, why do they kill everything? Why do they know not to attack each other? Just so many questions... Also, perfect analogy and literary reference at the end. Frodo crosses the sea and Sam stays behind.
This is The Lord of the Rings reimagined in an alien invasion setting! Sam and Frodo, with Merry (or Pippin, your pick), set off on a daring quest, facing off against multiple Gollums (the Death Angels) in pursuit of the one pizza-a last pie meant to quench all hungers!
So... bodega cats are a thing. They're specifically around to make sure that rodents don't eat the inventory. I personally adore bodega specific animals, because they're usually always friendly enough to give scratches.
When you said Walking dead is represented. Gladiator is represented, right after "Eddie" popped up. I immediately though of Gladiator II.
