    What kind of screws did you use to attach the wood to the metal bar? Also, what kind of drill bit did you use to make the pivot holes? Thanks for your help, I'm still learning :)

    Great info! You should do an update on how it's holding up and any improvements made. Was the gate door to heavy after 8 years? Oh i believe you have the metal bracing backwards, should be from the bottom hing to the top corner on the locking side. Thanks for the feed back!

  • @ragtie6177

    Nice little project but support brace should run the opposite way you have it. If it's not tensioner cable, which holds the gate up from the mount corner....then it's supposed to support by running from the solid mount corner up to the opposite one. preventing sag. Thought you should know. Anyway....liked the video bro

      So does that mean to screw the support at the bottom corner of the mounted side to the top of the handle/loose hanging side? My dog is ruining our gate by digging at the ties separating them or breaking them.. I've replaced the bent fence already and the second one is on its last leg as well.

    I was honestly wondering if I could do this to my chain-lea fence. But, I needed it to be the standard 6 foot height in. Having the middle posts would be better than putting in wooden posts

    You need to trim the top pipe of the chain link fence piece near the latch and then cap it off. It looks like it could give someone a nasty scrape if they bump against it one night.

    • @ESCAGEDOWOODWORKING
      @ESCAGEDOWOODWORKING  7 років тому

      Yes you're right...and I did think about it at the time. I said to myself, ok I'll get around to it. Still need to do that too. Thank you so much for watching and noticing it too!

    Will drilling holes through the galvanized pipe make allow the water to get inside the pipe and rust? I bought a 12-foot wide farm gate made of galvanized 1 3/4" metal tubing. I had planned on using galvanized metal straps to connect the wood cross members to the metal gate frame and nail the pickets to those cross members. My idea may not be as solid as yours, but I was concerned about the gate rusting through from the inside if I drilled holes in it. What is your opinion?

    question so when you attached the wood to the metal frame you just drilled the screw right into the metal? no need for a nut and bolt?

    • @ESCAGEDOWOODWORKING
      @ESCAGEDOWOODWORKING  3 роки тому

      yes, correct. Those are self tapping metal screws. They bite the metal so that they fasten well with that material.
